Episode Summary
As Goku and Vegeta wonder who they will pick for the remaining spots on the Universe 7 team, they meet up with Kuririn, who mistakenly thinks that they are having a picnic in outer space. It seems he heard this from No. 18, who heard it from Chi-Chi, who apparently misunderstood something Goku said. Goku fills Kuririn in on the real situation, explaining all about the upcoming tournament against Universe 6. Goku reasons that they need to have Boo on their team: even with the evil Boo removed from him, he is still a force to be reckoned with when he gets mad. Goku mentions that the evil Boo has been reincarnated as a human, but says that this reincarnation is still too young to compete. He and Vegeta stop by Mister Satan’s house to recruit Boo, who is initially uninterested, but Goku tempts him by offering him a wish with the Super Dragon Balls. However, Boo notes that Satan has already provided him with everything he wants, so if he wins he will just give his wish to Satan. Over on Beerus’ planet, Beerus chows down on more instant ramen, while Whis asks him why he agreed to this tournament. Could it be that a little bit of Goku’s spirit is rubbing off on Beerus? Beerus denies this, and in turn questions Whis as to why he started training Goku and Vegeta. Does Whis want to have those two fight Beerus someday? Whis denies this as well, and the two head off to meet Monaka.
Back on Earth, Goten and Trunks meet up with Goku and Vegeta; like Kuririn, they are disappointed to learn that there is no picnic after all. Trunks is excited when he hears about the tournament, but Vegeta tells him Fusion is against the rules, and that if he wants to participate he must train to be strong on his own. Goku and Vegeta continue on, and interrupt Piccolo and Gohan during their sparring match. At first Gohan is eager to enter the tournament and show off the fruits of his training, but when he finds out that it is in four days he reluctantly turns the offer down, since he has an academic conference that day which he absolutely cannot miss. Instead, Piccolo agrees to be on the team. Back at Capsule Corporation, Jaco has still not reached Earth, much to Bulma’s annoyance. Goku wants to train with Vegeta and Piccolo in the Room of Spirit and Time, which Dende is currently fixing. That way, they can get three years’ worth of training done in only three days. Piccolo declines, saying that he would not be able to keep up with their training and he would be better off meditating outside. Vegeta initially refuses as well, saying that he and Goku are near their limit and would not be able to power up much more even if they trained. But Goku is obsessed with closing the gap between them and Monaka, so Vegeta eventually agrees to train with him.
Out in space, Beerus and Whis approach Monaka’s planet. Whis seems uncertain about inviting Monaka to the tournament, thinking that something bad might happen. Beerus however is confident, and tells Whis to leave everything to him…

Episode Notes
- While flying along with Goku and Vegeta, Kuririn (Mayumi Tanaka) impersonates the voices of Chi-Chi, No. 18, and Marron as he recounts Chi-Chi telling No. 18 there would be a picnic in space.
- The book Majin Boo is reading is a Neko Majin picture book titled, “Yoiko no Ehon” (よいこのえほん), meaning “Good Children’s Picture Book”.
- Monaka’s name is likely taken directly from monaka, a Japanese sweet (made of azuki bean jam filling sandwiched between two thin crisp wafers made from mochi), and adapting the name spelling into katakana.
最中 (mo·na·ka) › モナカ (mo·na·ka)
