Re: A heartwarming Super review
I'm not sure how you're misconstruing everything I said. I didn't say that they didn't do actual criticism. I said that even in reviews, literary critics go far deeper than the film critics I've read - I'm speaking of reviews, because this is what the thread is about. Secondly, it is likely I am mis...

Re: Dragon Ball and other types of Literature
Nobody has to feel insecure about reading Dragon Ball or enjoying children's media as long as that's not the only thing they do. They're not mutually exclusive or else I'd have been kicked out from my master's course by this point because I'd rather read Dragon Ball than most of the authors I study.

Re: A heartwarming Super review
I said I read Roger Ebert. And I also like Zizek, forgot to mention him, but film criticism isn't his main subject. I'm aware reviews and actual criticism aren't the same thing, that's not the point. The point is that even in reviews, literary critics don't just talk about the plot, the author, and ...

Re: A heartwarming Super review
As a rule, YouTube reviewers are awful. If someone isn't a professional critic, chances are their reviews are mostly not worthwhile Film critics are usually awful and have nothing interesting to say, as well. That's not true at all. There are some terrible ones that seem more preoccupied with getti...

Re: Will Goku and Vegeta ever surpass their current Gogeta, and Vegetto?
Completed UI Goku is already stronger than both. Provided Gogeta and Vegetto can tap into UI in a pinch, then they would obviously be stronger. I don't think they'll ever surpass the fusions that way, unless Goku and Vegeta's battle powers stop being equal and one gets a massive boost over the other...

Where did the powercreep really start?
Most fans would argue that it started with Raditz and the introduction of powerlevels or, at the very latest, with Freeza and his multiple forms; the Cell and Boo arcs then exacerbated the problem. I would argue that it started much earlier around the Piccolo Daimao arc. Goku loses to a Piccolo usin...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Even in the anime, I don't think he was overall too bad. His "Luffyness" (because the OP influence is likely what lead to his character change) only seemed to come up during the 'filler' in-between arcs and, more importantly, in the Zamasu arc. The BoG arc takes the character in a differen...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Having finally finished Super, I wonder why people think Goku was "flanderized". It pained me to write "flanderied" He's far more childish, remarkably less intelligent and overall incompetent (but unlike Cell and Boo, not incompetent because his plan didn't work out, incompetent...

Re: Could a Tournament of Power game work?
I think a hack-and-slash kind of game could work, but the focus of the game would probably have to be on the number of playable characters and their unique movesets. Make every fighter (or almost every fighter) playable and make them unique, or else I don't see how they'd make a game based around a ...

Re: I've been thinking and honestly One Piece seems superior to Dragon Ball?
It's interesting to hear that people couldn't get into One Piece because of the art style, because I find early One Piece to have the most charming and soulful style compared to the ridiculous body proportions and facial expressions that would become much more common later on. It's only around Drum ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
My Literature Professor says casual Dragon Ball fans fundamentally understand the franchise better than the hardcore base... He has convinced me that he's correct, though I'm not sold on why the discrepancy even exists. Because it's just a fun show with charming characters based on punching people....

Re: What are your other favorite non-Dragon Ball movies/shows
Very broad subject manner, so we'll likely leave some stuff out. American Psycho is my favorite movie, but I'm not a big fan of the novel. Into the Wild, The Deer Hunter, The Hunt, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, both Blade Runner films, Se7en, Empire of the Sun, Downfall and the Lives of Others ar...

Re: Who Else Has the Potential to Turn 'Good'?
I have my doubts about Cell. He doesn't have a concept of self preservation like Frieza. He tried killing himself when he thought he was going to lose. Fair enough, but he also has a drive for self-improvement. He does? Seems like he has issues with complacency. And when someone threatens his place...

Re: Who Else Has the Potential to Turn 'Good'?
Nappa wanted to revive Raditz. If Vegeta could change, then so could both of them. Honestly, if Vegeta changed, then so can any other villain in the series (barring insane creatures like Boo and Janemba), though that doesn't necessarily mean I would like to see it. Perhaps not Freeza, since modern ...

Re: I've been thinking and honestly One Piece seems superior to Dragon Ball?
Yeah, I'm not buying this idea that Toriyama's grand plan all along was to make this serious story for a couple of years and then make fun of it to own the readers. That's a Tavarano-level take. What really happened was a burned out author retreating to his Dr. Slumpian roots as he threw shit at th...

Re: I've been thinking and honestly One Piece seems superior to Dragon Ball?
. I agree Dragon Ball peaked on Namek, but you're arbitrarily applying that rule. There's more Dragon Ball before the 23rd Budokai and it was still great. ...........yeah the stuff before the 23rd budokai falls under the 3-5 years. I’m not saying the 3-5th years are the best or greatest just that m...
