What are everyone's thoughts on the newly released Dragon Ball Blu-rays?

I just heard of this recently & it seems weird that there isnt more hype about it. The video quality is phenomenal from the intro clips I've seen. Are there any reviews of them (hopefully in English) and so on.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Bang Zoom Dub Blu-Ray sync

So I know this is ages old, I was wondering: whatever happened to this? I've been out of the loop for a bit, sorry. The dub got quietly cancelled a few years ago after the second arc & hasn't been picked back up. Right of course, i do remember that much. Just - whatever happened to this fellow'...

Re: Regarding the releases of the original "Dragon Ball" TV adaptation - particularly the "Dragon Box"?

They look nicer than the old DB doubles sets in motion, and they look better than the blue bricks in colors and texture. It seems that funimation has never gotten film masters for DB. They’ve been using the same digital standard def tapes since the beginning. This transfer looks passable, and the c...

Regarding the releases of the original "Dragon Ball" TV adaptation - particularly the "Dragon Box"?

Seeing that there is still the footage and the Dragon Box Z material (as well as others such as the "Level" sets), it might be worth detailing the Dragon Ball first series home releases, and their qualities. The Dragon Ball Wiki details a "Dragon Box" predating the Z releases. In...

Re: Hiromi Tsuru, Bulma's voice actor, has passed away.

This was so unexpected & so heart-wrenching. Fuck. It hit like a ton of bricks. I'd been playing MGS1 & 2 the last few months; she was incredible at Naomi & she did a great no-nonsense act. Easily one of the all-time Japanese VO greats. She accomplished so much at a really early age &...

Re: Does Tanaka play a more convincing male than Nozawa?

I mean no disrespect to either, but I would say, yes, in my experience, her voice generally feels better (or less ill-fitting, at least...) for a male character. I have had this thought as well, btw. I think people generally take issue with Goku more because he's tall and buff. Kuririn is petite and...

If at all, how did Linkin Park affect your experience with Dragon Ball (or anime overall)?

So...been awhile since I've visited. Wanted to say...I'm unsure if anything's been said by anyone else here, but...if anyone's unaware, the vocalist of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington, took his own life a few days ago, and...I understand that this is quite tangentially related to Dragon Ball...and c...

Re: Who really is the definitive Son Goku?

It is true though, every other version has been an adaption of that material. Right but Toriyama specifically had much involvement in that adaptation. He thought "that could only be what Goku sounds like" hearing Nozawa's take. Hayter is mistreated as a dub voice actor? Since when? I didn...

Re: Who really is the definitive Son Goku?

Hayter is mistreated as a dub voice actor? Since when? I didn't know he was mistreated. Same thing with Schemmel. Are they mistreated because they're not Otsuka and Nozawa ? That's such a non-sequitur lol. I think when MGS & DBZ make dozens of millions on dub-primary/only releases, & the du...

Re: Who really is the definitive Son Goku?

Whether you like it or not, people view Hayter as the definitive Snake even if he doesn't sound like Otsuka. Personally, I find this definitive thing ridiculous and rather arrogant. I much prefer using the term favorite rather than definitive. I know, I was simply speaking from a "what is the ...

Re: Who really is the definitive Son Goku?

Nozawa was the original voice. Nozawa is the voice Toriyama picked. Nozawa is the voice that Toriyama continued to hear in his head while drawing the manga. Well, yeah; Akira Toriyama was Japanese, was probably exposed to Nozawa first, and probably didn't care enough to watch every single country's...

Ah I guess. I feel like it helps me understand foreign VAs better by giving them an analogy of sorts to actors I recognize for certain archetypes.

Re: Which Piccolo voice do you prefer: Chris Sabat or Scott McNeil?

It's better when they have an English voice director than a Japanese voice director directing the voice actors. If the Japanese producers want to have a hand in the dub, then okay, but after that they should leave the voice directing to the ones who can actually direct them. Well, I think definitel...

Re: Which Piccolo voice do you prefer: Chris Sabat or Scott McNeil?

I'm sure it wasn't Shueisha who did the castings for those dubs. It was the voice and casting directors and despite the voices of the dubs sounding like the Japanese version, there are some castings that sound different. Drummond's Ryuk is deeper than the Japanese one. I didn't notice that but good...

Re: Which Piccolo voice do you prefer: Chris Sabat or Scott McNeil?

That has been the problem with FUNimation. They seem to go for Stereotypical Voice casting like Piccolo may look like a monster so give him a hulky voice sounding monstrous. I think this is quite common in Dragon Ball English voices because most of the voices are not based upon how their Japanese c...

Re: What if Family Guy did a Dragon Ball-based skit?

You shouldn't take Robot Chicken that seriously, man. It's just a joke. Humor often reflects how we feel about certain things in real life. If we joke about certain things, it generally assumes we understand & are trying to make light of it. When we don't actually get it, it seems pretty crass ...
