Re: Why do English-speaking fans belittle the non-FUNimation dubs?

The problem is, when dubbing is non-union -- which pretty much is always the case in the US -- union actors really can't do it, and any actor who's become moderately successful will probably join a union, so if it's a non-union dub, options for really great actors are limited. So, in theory, if it ...

I don't care if a dub is union or non-union. What matters is the acting quality. Re: Why do English-speaking fans belittle the non-FUNimation dubs?

Even if it's censored, I still like Spider-Man TAS a whole lot. It's not on the level of the DCAU or X-Men TAS, but I enjoy it for what it is. Sure, the animation isn't great, but there's some Batman TAS episodes that aren't exactly scenery porn either. Never trust AKOM with creating something beaut...

Well, they're used to what they saw first so they'll deem it as superior to what they didn't grew up with.

Re: Would you like to see the Dragon Ball Franchise on Netflix, (Even if it was redubbed)

During Goku's first SSJ transformation, Nozawa had him choking back sobs? How am I only now getting this? I agree with most of Kunzait's comments (even if I still like Schemmel's performance while acknowledging his flaws) except for the "TV level" actor one. I also don't agree with his as...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Yeah, and the fact that they didn't even sign a TV deal with any Canadian broadcast company was a missed opportunity. I do wonder if a TV deal fell through at some point, or if a channel bought the rights and sat on them (maybe even sold them to WOW). I just don't understand how any investor could ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

since it reran on Toonami nonstop for a few years before FUNi dubbed more episodes with the Texas cast & redubbed the earlier episodes for home releases & later TV airings, I'm assuming for that last one. The Ocean voiced dub ran for a year on Toonami before the in-house dub took over. Like...

Well, KaiserNeko from TFS heard his Frieza voice. It's apparently a British Mark Hamill Joker voice.

Honestly, just keep it as it is. Like Forte said, Makankosappo is a cool name on its own.

Re: Dealing with recasts: then and now

I feel some of Kai's recastings worked and some didn't. I love Rial's Bulma, but Clinkenbeard's Gohan could get quite grating on my nerves even if she was good. Jason Douglas was a better fit for King Cold, but I always envisioned King Cold with a more Tony Jay kind of voice. Like Robo said, Kai wou...

Re: Would you like to see the Dragon Ball Franchise on Netflix, (Even if it was redubbed)

Another major issue with the Funimation dub of GT is how they made Goku even more of a superhero than the dub of Z did. Oh, and Pan's voice is really annoying. At least Minaguchi is more tolerable.

Re: Would you like to see the Dragon Ball Franchise on Netflix, (Even if it was redubbed)

I think you mean the script specifically. Kai required a new script because it's quite different from Z due to the amount that's been removed or had to be reworded to fit the new context of filler not being present. No it didn’t. The Japanese Z and Kai scripts are nearly identical. Funimation could...

I would add whoever voices Agent Mai and the guy voicing Mercenary Tao to the list.

I like Williams' Tao, but I haven't heard anyone talking like that.

Re: Would you like to see the Dragon Ball Franchise on Netflix, (Even if it was redubbed)

I don't see why people still feel the need to utterly trounce and lambast the Funimatiom cast and write them off as trash. If you don't like their performances, fine, art is subjective, just watch the Japanese version or alternate English dubs if they do it for you, but with the level of disdain le...
