Re: Is anyone still holding out for a new HD remaster from TOEI?

If Toei can't even bother doing 17 movies correctly, I highly doubt they will do 508 episodes properly. If they do a release at all, it will just be upscaled DNR'ed footage with, at best, spit polished optical audio.

Re: Are There Any Updates On The Harmony Gold Dub Of Dragon Ball?

Is it going to have everything exactly as the VHS tapes though? Tom's last remaster was missing the title cards and the sound effects in the opening. I didn't pick up on the sound effects in Episodes 2-5 until just recently, but I will include them. Title cards have been in for ages. Also this isn'...

Awesome! Thanks for the update.

Were they anaglyph? Because that is really cool if true.

Seriously... I've seen it go for well over the price of all the R1 Dragon Boxes combined.

I guess some people just REALLY loved the Saban dub  .

Re: State of the Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z Broadcast Audio?

So, does anyone know if this is true regarding GT's audio? Actually ALL AIRINGS on tv in Japan are lossy, so no matter what you’ll do with tv airings, you’ll get lossy tracks. It’s like when you record your tv yourself, the audios is allways around 128-192kbps so except if you have an earlier analog...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

It's not about being offensive, it's about the kids, and not doing a bad influence. Parents doing their jobs (AKA parenting, what their title suggests they do.) solves this problem. If parents can't be bothered to parent their children then they can't care too much about what they grow up to be, so...

Re: Dragon Ball the Movies BD release - reason for censoring middle fingers?

Because Toei thought that a large enough group of people would make a big enough stink about it. Same reason why they had to put the content disclaimer on the back of the boxes. There is no other motive here, especially one to "japanize" a movie originally made in Japan, by Japanese people...

Just read about the censorship and the disclaimer... *Face...freaking...palm* People seriously need to learn the definition of the word "context". Not only that, but I hear the remastering has gotten worse as well (As bad as movie 5?). I will be sticking to my Dragon Boxes. Pretty much any...

Re: Funimation Remastering of Z - What did they do wrong?

There is also (Maybe only with Season 1, not sure about the others) streaks of fading grain from DNR not being applied properly, which causes a lot of the line work to wobble around. I also remember hearing about issues with ghosting as well (Essentially, a transparent "ghost-like" still i...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Yes, Blu-rays and HD-DVDs are more durable than DVDs True, but something else to consider is where the data layer is located. In DVDs, it is located in the center of the plastic, while with Blu-ray it is located at the very edge of the bottom of the disc. So with a DVD, a light scratch would likely...

What sound quality do the Funi 2008/2009 movie releases have?

Optical Track based off of whatever multi-generational film print they have. Some sound better than others, but all are 100% inferior to Dragon Box: The Movies, as that used the original magnetic tapes as the audio source.

I would be a lot more excited if it weren't for the fact that the Optical Track audio is probably being used. I mean, sure, one could demux the audio stream from Dragon Box: The Movies and remux it with the new Blu-rays, but we shouldn't have to do that.

Re: Dragon Box Audio Vs. Broadcast Audio — How is there even an argument?

the new Toei HD master appeared, which actually seems to use the optical audio instead of the cinetape masters they used on the Dragon Box and Laserdiscs... I'm really hoping that was just because they want to have a selling point for the Blu-ray release. Clearly they are aware the cinetapes exist ...

Re: Dragon Box Audio Vs. Broadcast Audio — How is there even an argument?

Some people on Youtube prefer the optical track audio because they feel it makes Dragon Ball sound more like an old school martial arts movie. And also, we do have it for the whole Z series You guys found the missing 10 minutes on episode 218? Most of DB has yet to be attained, though about 20 episo...

TOEI used the shitty muffled audio when Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT broadcast audio files have been given to them

Huh? Did something change recently? As far as I knew, Toei refused the broadcast audio.

Man, if this is the start of everything getting another Dragon Box style remaster, but in HD, I'm going to be excited. If Funimation localizes this release, I'm going to be jumping up and down in joy for about a hour straight. If Funimation localizes it, AND uses the broadcast audio they have, I thi...
