Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
The mustache was ridiculous, but changing Vegeta haircut in GT was also unnecessary. Goku and Vegeta have such iconic hairstyles. They don't need to change to make them look older. I liked the change of hairstyle, because it showed how Vegeta has been progressively adapting to a normal human lifest...

Re: Has your opinion about Ultra Ego changed since its introduction?
I'm unfamiliar with the circumstances behind the transformation, but visually I respond to it quite positively. And I like the idea of Goku and Vegeta having different transformations, rather than Vegeta just always playing catch-up.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Rewatching the original Dragon Ball it always bothered me how anticlimactic Goku's last appearance as a child is. Goku showing up all grown up was nearly as big of a game changer as being revealed as a father and an alien in the Saiyan arc and his last appearance in the anime as a kid is playing ki...

Re: Fave Broly design?
Original, easily. There are many valid criticisms to be had with how the character was written, but I think he has one of the best designs of a Saiyan character. I particularly like his appearance in his 2nd movie, where he was a regular SSJ with no funky colors: https://dynamiteinthebrain.com/wp-co...

Re: A Kai Version of DB (1986 OG Series)
I don't think filler really became a problem until the Red Ribbon Army arc. The first two arcs were actually very reasonable, with good reason - they were produced years after the manga release. The first 54 chapters of the manga were adapted into 28 episodes of the anime, meaning that even with the...

Re: What do you think are some of the worst retcons in the series?
Definitely the change to Bardock's character.
Dunno if it counts as a retcon since the character was never canon anyway, but the new Broly is super lame as well.

Re: How would you remake and rewrite the Majin Buu Saga?
The only thing I would change is bringing Gohan to fight Boo at the very end, rather than using the Genki Dama. And even that is like, eh, a trade-off compromise.

Re: Dragon Ball Manga Deluxe Edition
It's something I dream about. Coming from the perspective of an American comic collector it's difficult for me to understand why it has not happened. The Berserk Deluxe Editions are a thing of beauty, and the reason they exist is because the license is held by an American comic book publisher. Yes t...

Re: I miss the DB Gang
One of my favorite aspects of the series is that the cast is constantly changing in a very organic way. They make new allies but they drift apart as well, and there aren't really any implications that they visit each other between story arcs, every event is treated like a reunion. Some became close,...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
His origin is functionally identical to the original but, in my opinion, is far less interesting and dramatic. They were moody and ugly. The image of Broly and Paragus dying on a trash heap has always stuck with me. They said so much with very little. His trauma is played for sympathy, but being sy...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Now the post movie hype has died, what is everyone's opinions on Broly:BR? Watched the movie not long ago. First time I've ever watched anything Super. It was OK. Broly is a wholly sympathetic character now. The question is, does that actually make him a deeper character? I think that this new vers...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?
You just have to look at American comics to see how that plays out. It can lead to amazing work and it can lead to fanwanking. Too often it plays out as one writer just undoing all the things they didn't like about a previous writer's work. A writer of anything already established should be enough o...

Re: Manga censorship
I bought most of my volumes of Dragon Ball 15+ years ago and the art censorship is minimal. Middle fingers, nipples, all that good stuff. It gets distracting when I switch to the Vizbigs for Z and the censorship is so obvious. Yeah they're just little things and they shouldn't matter but they do, it...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.
To me, the most effective note GT hits is melancholy. There's a sense of sadness that the journey is ending, that these people are aging and moving into the final stages of their life, and that this special thing they've been a part of is just about over. I especially like the idea of Goku becoming ...

Re: What exactly makes a satisfying ending?
To me the Boo arc was always the natural finale to me. Obviously I never read/saw it without knowing it was the last arc, but still. The stakes were higher than ever, almost every single character died, the Earth was destroyed, Vegeta's arc was finally resolved, Gohan's arc was finally resolved (ev...

Re: What exactly makes a satisfying ending?
I think EoZ is a perfect ending and apparently I'm the only person in the universe who feels that way. I think the reason a lot of fans don't like EOZ (I didn't for awhile) is because of how out of nowhere it comes from. There's no build up to it or hints about it, it just happens and the story end...

Re: What exactly makes a satisfying ending?
I would say the biggest thing is the ending not making what we've been reading/watching a waste of time. See Game of Thrones for an example of that one.
But I really don't know, because I think EoZ is a perfect ending and apparently I'm the only person in the universe who feels that way.

I don't know if it was supposed to be SSJ2 (it sure was in the game itself) or if it was just an off-model SSJ that looked like it, but I loved how it looked on the Hyper Dimension boxart.

Re: What fans want VS real-life released products.
The idea that the movies were written specifically to provide villains for the video games seems like a pretty massive stretch. Surely it would be cheaper just to create villains for the videogames from scratch, rather than spending the time and money to make a movie starring said villain just to ma...
