I have a few friends who like Dragonball. They started out as dub watchers but I started explaining the censorship and differences between the two versions and got them interested in the original. My dad thinks Dragonball is insanely long and is just mind numbingly bizarre. The thing is he'll catch ...

Oh man if this comes into fruition I'm tempted to take back all the bad things I said about Kai. It is shaping up really really nicely.

I like the manga better. As most people have said there is better pacing and there's rarely any "off days" art wise. Good filler is far and few between especially when it comes to Z. However Kai is kind of making the anime 10x more watchable to newcomers who don't have the patience to sit ...

That insert song was SO bad ass. This is my new favorite moment in Kai.

I was just playing Raging Blast in English today and I noticed a lot of improvements in some of the minor character's voices. The voice actors for Nappa and Dodoria really toned things down a few notches. Whoever was imitating Clark's Cell did a good job I thought. It sounds to me like Young's Freez...

Yeah okay this was stupid I'll admit that. Luckily it lasted for around 2 volumes though. It seems to randomly come and go. It does drop out around DBZ volume 3, but then when Viz did the 23rd TB they had him talk like that too (perhaps to provide continuity with the first few Z volumes?) and then ...

Does anyone else find that sentence so ye-olde-Englishy that they can't stand to read it? Serious question. Speaking of natural-sounding English, there's Viz's annoying habit of having Piccolo speak like some Ren fair reject half the time, when in Japanese he talks normally, or at least no differen...

So you're a hardcore purist that needs every line translated directly? Let me guess you also want honorifics in the manga too? That's a really silly leap of reasoning to make. I don't think so, if you NEED things phrased exactly as they are in the original version or else that translation is automa...

"Har har, guys. "10 times" is way to small. He's a Saiyan...with a tail. He needs more POWA." ...kay' don't see where this snarky comment was going, moving on. How the hell does "Shall I tell you something good" sound "blatantly stupid" in English? That sound...

You lose information sure but it's an insanely insignificant detail that only comes into play if you're having power level debates on Gamefaqs.

I couldn't really care if they mean the exact same thing or not to be perfectly honest with you. The fact of the matter is, those translations suck ass, and are obviously made-up. So it's not important the dialogue has the same meaning and is just reworded to sound less blatantly stupid in English ...

Yeah, viz's version is actually my favorite translation of the series, anime or manga. Where did you get the idea that they had a bad rep? Goku (original): "Even if I raise the Kaio-ken to x5, it still won't have any effect on him!!!!" Goku (VIZ): "But my only chance --is to increase...

I have to commend the dub for reaching 'So bad it's good' territory every once in a while, like with the quote in Neptune's sig. Work of genius right there. Oh man I love this quote so much. A. How do you prepare pancakes that are anything but very flat? B. I love how Vegeta just really really want...

So Viz actually translated everything right. (That just goes to show us they they don`t really deserve their bad reputation in DB translation) I didn't think they had a bad rep. The only people who have big issues with them are hardcore purists who want EVERYTHING directly translated. I can honestl...

Sabat's current Piccolo (when he isn't half-assedly doing one quick take), has become a low, calm, whisper instead of the more Lanipator-esque bark that Lani parodies... He's been using that Piccolo voice since the Ultimate Uncut episodes. It's at its best in the first 3 movies. I'd argue he starte...

Man, with all this discussion of classic 90s cartoons, I can't believe no one has brought up SatAM (Otherwise known as Sonic the Hedgehog). That show, while not quite on par with something like the DCAU, was surprisingly dark, had female characters that weren't just there for the blue blur to swoop...
