Re: Powerlevels (discussion con't from DB Rankings)

Mmhmmmm... And how many of those came before Dragon Ball? On a side note, The Odyssey is unoriginal because it uses adventure as a plot device. Eh, if you say so. Western medicine is moreso a fact of life, whereas spiritual energy is nothing more than a plot device. The only reason I made a distinc...

Re: Powerlevels (discussion con't from DB Rankings)

That's not even a comparable analogy. What you're suggesting is that because the numbers are bigger your power advantage over the other person should be smaller, which makes no logical sense what-so-ever. Think about it in stats terms. You have a PL of 800, your opponent has a PL of 400. They hit y...

Re: Powerlevels (discussion con't from DB Rankings)

So the concept of "Ki" is unoriginal. Okay, name five anime or movies off the top of your head that use this concept as a core feature in the same way as Dragon Ball Z. Bleach, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, Street Fighter, Rurouni Kenshin, etc. By that logic, shows that use Western ...

Re: Powerlevels (discussion con't from DB Rankings)

Culture isn't something stupid to incorporate into a story, IncredibleGuy, since it's done in all the American shows you watch. The difference is that you don't notice it since it's so normal for you. Let me rephrase this then. Culture is a poor excuse for unoriginality. I hate Western cliches just...

Powerlevels (discussion con't from DB Rankings)

From the Dragon Ball Ranking topic Oh no, trust me, I'm being the bigger nerd here because I do know what I'm talking about... For the sake of this argument that is a good thing, but in the grand scheme of things (particularly the "will I get laid tonight" scheme of things) it's a very ver...

Re: Dragon Ball Ranking

That was the whole point. You're agreeing with the show. The numbers were introduced in DBZ as a way to give a little perspective and to introduce a different league of fighters who believed the use of technology could be used to determine the outcome of a fight (which by the third episode is prove...

Re: Dragon Ball Ranking

Think of this way: the sheer numerical difference isn't what counts, it's the proportionate difference that counts. Which is complete nonsense. Hold on, nonsense power levels? Dragonball's power level system was logical and it worked. One Piece characters pulls power ups out of nowhere and is basic...

Re: Dragon Ball Ranking

What nonsense powerlevels? Are you talking about the plot device where the whole point was that they were nonsense and not to be relied on ? No, I'm talking nonsense like how in the beginning of the Freeza arc a person could completely dominate another person if their powerlevels differed by just a...

Re: Does Kai cut out the announcing during the Cell games?

The announcer annoys you, but various unnecessary reaction shots, and recanting from Goku and the gang is alright? C'mon, man. The announcer was the probably the only character in all of DBZ who had good reason to restate everything that was going on around him. I'd personally be happier if they too...

Re: Dragon Ball Ranking

History repeats itself. And jeez. What is with all these people placing One Piece above Dragon Ball? One Piece is a fun show and everything but it's also the first term in the dictionary under synonyms for "derivative." Uh... One Piece isn't original, but Dragon Ball is? One Piece gets po...

Re: The Golden Age Of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball

Piccolo Jr. Saga? Absolute awesome. In my opinion, all of the DB era stuff is the best. The story gets a little weak and repetitive around the Freeza and Cell sagas, but it picks right back up and goes out with a bang in the Buu arc. Well, I sort of agree, but only because the Boo saga contained a ...

Re: The lack of respect Dragonball and its fans get.

Maybe they're just mad Dragon Ball doesn't contain the same pseudo-psychological Japanese fortune cookie life lessons you get from other shows like Naruto and Bleach.

The only reason people think the humans got shafted in Z is because Z didn't have the Budokais, which are all about flashy moves, showmanship and giving a good fight for the crowd. That, or they're not actually familiar with the original Dragon Ball. In original Dragon Ball the overall theme was &q...

Hate to bump this topic again, but can anybody tell me if Funimation stopped focusing their English dialogue to the center channel after the later seasons released? I ask because after demuxing, and transcoding sound from season six the center channel (as well as the left and right channels) had a f...

That typical dragon ball fighting situation doesn`t change the fact that Dragon Ball (even DBZ) is heavily influenced by humor and goofy situations. It basically only takes itself seriously enough to be considered a fighting/action manga instead of a comical one (like I would consider early Dragon ...

I won't argue with you further. I can think of several counter arguments to your post, but I can tell it would be a waste of both my time and yours to bring them up. However, I will leave you with a hypothetical question. Can you think of one Martial Arts/Superhero series where the characters aren'...

Ahem....WHAAAAAAT!!?? First of all, the original DB really only had two arcs where the search for the Dballs was the focus: the Son Goku and Red Ribbon Army stories. Piccolo Daimao was also after them, but that wasn't really the focus of the arc. er.... I am going to have to disagree with that one....
