Re: Dragon Ball Z UK Magazine Game Reviews

Wow, it's nice that you hung onto those. I remember reading GamesMaster magazines for my gaming news as a kid although I don't recall ever owning this issue. Despite their flaws, LOG1 and Budokai 1 are still two of my fondest memories playing DBZ games. I love the fact that PAL Budokai 1 properly in...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I don't think Toei are the ones that funded the dub but they most likely were involved in approving its creation or at least licensing the rights to whoever commisioned it. I just hope Wow Unlimited don't have any trouble tracking down the source. If they have the connections to find it I don't see ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Although the fact that the guy in charge of CNX doesn't even remember the reason for the switch doesn't exactly scream fan backlash. Needless to say I'll be very interested to hear from this other source if they can finally shed some light. He was also in charge of UK's Cartoon Network and Boomeran...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Fair enough, but where's the proof that Ocean does any better here? Until we have some actual numbers to compare such as ratings on an even playing field, or sales figures between the UK Orange Bricks and a hypothetical UK Ocean dub home release then the situation remains ambiguous and there's no w...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

And clearly Funimation's dub was liked enough by UK fans for Resurrection F to break into the UK Box Office top 10 and get an encore screening later on. The movie's performance at the UK box office clearly wasn't because of the Funi dub. It had more to do with the fact that it was simply a new DBZ ...

Basically anytime the word "Saiyan" was said in a Cartoon Network or Toonami promo here in the UK the announcer would always pronounce it correctly.

Re: But seriously, how did the Falcouner soundtrack even make it to air?

I've noticed this for quite a few years now and it's part of the reason I struggle to enjoy many Z episodes of the Funi dub (which are only compounded by other issues such as poor mixing, amateur voiceover/directing, script issues or questionable casting). While I was still in my mid-teens I had a s...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

If no one's bothering to demand the Canadian dubs then I don't see Manga UK releasing them. Enough people demanded the movies and now they're getting those although the problem is Manga lacks attention to detail and isn't bothered about dubs that aren't offered to them by Funi or Madman. I severely ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Jerome Mazandarani of Manga UK has mentioned on Twitter earlier this month that he was waiting to talk to Toei and Funimation regarding a Rock The Dragon UK release, I suppose there's always a small chance he could be persuaded to ask Toei for a release of this dub too. I'm personally very doubtful ...

Re: What'd a proper English cast of Dragon Ball sound like?

Bardock: Mark Hildreth - Something along the lines of Heero Yuy but played with more passion and energy (only possible if dubbed in the early 2000s, since he's in LA now) or Paul Dobson as an alternative. Hildreth sounds too young for Bardock IMO. I can see why you would say that on first impressio...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Depends on the nature of their NDA, if the actors are allowed to say they worked on it then I'm sure there's video and sound editors or whoever else out there. Just having a name for the producer would answer a lot of questions, and those are the kinds of questions that were never asked about the l...

Re: What was happening in Dragon Ball on your birth week?

Dates for manga seem to vary from site to site but if Kanzenshuu's are correct, Chapter 383 came out on July 21st, 1992. Three days before I was born. It featured the start of the fight between Super Vegeta and Perfect Cell. As for the anime; Episode 149: "How I Have Waited For this Day!! Cell’...

Re: What'd a proper English cast of Dragon Ball sound like?

He could also work as Krillin or Yamcha. I'm not really convinced of that, even his higher pitched voices sound a bit too cool and heroic for Krillin in my opinion. While he could work as Yamcha I think it would be a waste, I would prefer Yamcha to have a youthful yet somewhat rugged voice, it suit...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I sincerely doubt that they did the whole series only to have it sitting on the shelves. That's what happened. Even if Canadian TV doesn't want to air it, the studio itself could have pushed for a release, right? No, they can't. Only Funimation have the distribution rights to release or stream Drag...

Re: What'd a proper English cast of Dragon Ball sound like?

Lately, I've thought that Vincent Tong would've made a fantastic Tenshinhan if he used his Junjie voice . There are a few other Vancouver actors that I would've liked to have heard in Dragon Ball roles, some of which have probably been mentioned before, others have not. Might as well post them here....

According to who? I could ask the same question of you. Yes, you did make it clear, but I'm disagreeing with you. But when you disagree with what I have to say with an absolute statement such as "Tone and age have nothing to do each other" and you don't elaborate on your opinion whatsoeve...

Re: Did Dragon Ball REALLY need Funimation to thrive?

But the fundamentals are the same. There are conventions like having actors not playing their own age, so no, it's not a totally different beast. This has very little to do with my point about voice casting. If the actor sounds the part then they sound the part, a voice actor's age is not what I'm ...

Re: Did Dragon Ball REALLY need Funimation to thrive?

Being drawn older and going to college was not coincidental, it's all carefully designed towards the same goal, the goal of capturing a more serious tone. The music hints at this too. I think something you are missing is the convention of actors not playing their actual age. I understand this just f...

Re: Did Dragon Ball REALLY need Funimation to thrive?

I think Hebert does a good job as Gohan. Sure he may sound older than his age, but then again there are a lot of teenagers who sound older than their age. For example, CDB didn't really sound like he was 19 years old as Spider-Man, but he still did an excellent job. In response to the Spider-Man ex...

Re: Is there an official release for the edited version of Dragon Ball Z?

A full Dragon Box remaster of the Westwood dub was already made by someone a couple years ago, problem is, there are better audio sources available for it these days and a lot of that audio isn't being shared, this includes audio for the Blue Water dubs too. There's really no point in attempting a n...
