Re: Orange Bricks vs Blu-Ray Season Sets

The novelty wears off when you realize that it's the exact same show.

Re: Orange Bricks vs Blu-Ray Season Sets

I still love how people keep praising the BD quality as "glorious" when it becomes a total afterthought once you watch the show. At the end of the day, you want to see the movie or show for its story and character actions, not for video and audio quality unless previous DVD releases were R...

Re: Gen Fukunaga steps down as GM of Funimation.

Gratitude is a good thing, and taking the time to be grateful and positive in a day is, I think, something that can make you a happier person. I am grateful for other things in life, just not towards Gen Fukunaga. I consider him a crook. There! I said it! But, yeah, some things just aren't deservin...

Re: Gen Fukunaga steps down as GM of Funimation.

He still was the main man behind FUNimation getting it and distributing it, no matter how you look at it. And for that I think he should be thanked. I don't thank those who set up their loyal fanbase under false pretenses just to pull out midway for the sake of appeasing a new fanbase under new pre...

Re: Gen Fukunaga steps down as GM of Funimation.

I've never been able to trust Fukunaga as far as I can throw him. The many years that he spent setting up fans for their support only to pull the rug out from under them had cemented his reputation as a backstabber in my book. But I also won't deny that his business prowess helped push anime further...

Re: Gen Fukunaga steps down as GM of Funimation.

Don't see anything in the story about Fukunaga retiring. So far, from the story, it looks like he voluntarily stepped down and would rather be in a chairman's position from now on.

Re: Will DB/Z/GT Ever Get a Proper Release?

There's no doubt that they've had a bad track record of canceling releases for one reason or another, and IMO the death of the Ultimate Uncut Editions were a bigger tragedy because of the completely under the radar way in which FUNi axed the releases just as they had started on the next set of disc...

Re: Will DB/Z/GT Ever Get a Proper Release?

I would've preferred that FUNimation had completed all their previous releases like the UUEs and the Level Sets or had given the fans the opportunity to trade-in their incomplete releases for the complete releases at a set percent discount. It could've saved Fukunaga and his company a lot of PR poin...

Re: Will DB/Z/GT Ever Get a Proper Release?

I sincerely doubt that Dragon Ball and all its various follow-ups will ever receive a proper release considering how polarized and subjective the fandom has become. I would even dare say they're as polarized as the Star Wars fandom meaning that nobody will ever come to a collective agreement regardi...

Re: Orange Bricks vs Blu-Ray Season Sets

It's pretty much all a moot point anyway considering that the releases were geared towards casual viewing audiences and not media tech enthusiasts.

Re: If FUNimation were to release an 'uncut' Ocean Dub release along with JPN/FUNi dubs?

There is no "if" about it. The Ocean Group won't be used for any unedited dubs of Dragon Ball Z as FUNimation would rather use their usual suspects in Texas. Anything Ocean related will most likely be for the international dub albeit edited for television standards.

Re: Overall Would You Say The Dragonball Fandom Is Positive Or Negative Compared To Other Fandoms?

Very true. I think the DB Abridged thing has applied misconceptions to many fans about what the show actually is, that's it's just some aged narmy artifact of the late 90s rather than being late 80s/early 90s anime classic that mixes storytelling both comedic and series. Exacerbating that is the ag...

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Level 1.1

The cancellation of the level sets was one of FUNimation's biggest screwjobs next to the cancellation of the Ultimate Uncuts. Anecdotally speaking, I've heard of fans even selling off their orange boxes for the purposes of getting the show done "properly" in 4:3 with the level sets but loo...

Re: Overall Would You Say The Dragonball Fandom Is Positive Or Negative Compared To Other Fandoms?

It isn't anymore good or bad than other fandoms but there is a strong sense of entitlement to the property due to its mainstream appeal. I still consider that form of entitlement to be utter nonsense.

For the record, Volumes 10 and 11 of the UUE's were supposedly completed with only Volume 12 being the only volume that was not put into production. Case art of Volumes 10 and 11 can be seen online.

Re: Help Guide for DBZ Funimation Singles DVDs (links + screens)

The Ultimate Uncuts will still go down in history as one of Fukunaga's biggest blunders with the Dragon Ball Z property. There was really no excuse for his company to had done the release the way it did when the writing was clearly on the wall in 2005 that the anime bubble had burst, the fans were n...

Re: Help Guide for DBZ Funimation Singles DVDs (links + screens)

The last volume of The Vegeta Saga Part Two DVD set is called "Volume #10 – “The Saiyan Prince” which has the original Japanese DBZ episodes 28, 29, and 30, but it's not on Amazon since the release was canceled, unfortunately. "Unfortunately" is an understatement. The Ultimate Uncuts...

Re: "Jump Force" Official Discussion Thread

If this game is being tailored mostly to an American audience, then I don't expect any of the characters from other Jump series to show up save for the ones whose anime already aired on Cartoon Network.

Re: Why is Dragon Ball so Popular?

In another thread, I compared it to heavy metal band Black Sabbath for the same reasons, just to show how hitting all three can essentially allow you to take over the world. This time, I'll use Nirvana. How did Nirvana get so huge considering there were other alt-rock and punk bands who did what th...

Re: Funimation no longer has the streaming licenses for DBZ movies & specials

This is exactly why I hope physical media never goes away cause these companies will have full control over what we can and can't have. Over night something like this can happen so without physical media you'll never be able to see them again if the company behind them doesn't want you to. You're p...
