Re: Does anyone TRAIN in real life?

I have trained in Shaolin Gung Fu and Tan Tui for 14 years now and have trained in XingYiQuan, BaQuaZhang, and Taijiquan for about 10 years now as well. I teach Shaolin and Taiji on the weekends to Autistic and downs syndrome children at a local martial arts school as well. I love all Chinese martia...

Re: Pronounciation Help

Yeah, the pronunciation of Si Xing Long's name ( Si = Soo ) used to throw me off, too. The correct way to pronounce "Si Xing Long" ;"Si" (meaning four) is not really pronounce Soo that would sound like Sue , but it more closely sounds like suh . In fact here is 1-10 in Chinese (...

Re: Your Cutlist for Dragonball Evolution?

"Sifu Norris"? "Sifu" is close to a romanization for the Mandarin word for "Master" (It might be valid in a romanization system that I'm not familiar with). "Master Norris"? So what, was he a play on Chuck Norris, or what? "Sifu" is the Cantonese &q...

Re: GokoU

I don't think any of the examples throughout this can necessarily be considered an anglicization of the original. It COULD be but just as Olivier Hague said before me, calling it an "non-standard romanization" leaves many more possiblities. Even if it was an anglicization, it doesn't neces...

Hey guys I am going to jump in if you don't mind. First off I can't really argue anything about japanese as I know so little but I will give an example of how transliterizations can be a good thing and sometimes can just be annoying. So since Chinese is my forté, I will be using an example already i...

Re: Do you feel old yet?

I first remember watching in on Kids WB and loving it, so that makes it about 13 years or so as a fan. What I find funniest about being a fan back then, was that NOBODY knew what the hell you were talking about when you started rambling on about Dragonball Z!

Re: What movie is the laser disc of?

It's cheap and it's Dragonball, so just buy it! If you don't, I will. By the way, are LD players still sold? Its actually pretty rare considering it is an LD. I like to see things in different Chinese dubs, it helps me perfect my Chinese and its also sometimes funny seeing how they deal with ...

Re: A few things I've wondered

Also, even if you could use the dragonballs in the RoSaT, the number of times that you could make a make would only be equal to the amount of people x2 that could actually catch the dragonballs in midair before they flew off, otherwise its bye-bye dragonballs forever.

Re: What movie is the laser disc of?

Ah, so it's like Japanese, only there's more than one way of writing it. Well, actually, that can be true of Japanese, too, now that I think about it. Thanks, ChaojiShucaiRen . :D So is pronounced Sàiyàrén and 西尔人 is pronounced Xī ěr rén? I can understand the reasoning behind 賽亞人, but if 西尔人 isn't ...

Re: What movie is the laser disc of?

Ah, so I was right about it being a bootleg. The title really confuses me though... And why does it use 西爾人 when it's written 賽亞人 on Wikipedia? Ah...thats a hard one actually. Basically what this boils down to is writing out the word as it sounds. Kind of like how a name in English gets sounded out...

Re: What movie is the laser disc of?

I did some research and 龍珠Z 五大超西爾人 (The Five Great Super Saiyans) is indeed movie eight, I think... The title on the Chinese Wikipedia page is 燃燒吧!!熱戰·烈戰·超激戰, and the title on this LD seems an awful lot like movie seven's title (Extreme Battle! The Three Great Super Saiyans) . Well, maybe it is a b...

Dabra v. SSJ Goku - Interesting match?

What if Cell-era Full Power SSJ Goku were to go up against Dabra mono y mono? I guess the deciding factor would be whether or not you percieve Dabra as being stronger or weaker than Perfect Cell. Also we know that Goku has some pretty nice tricks up his sleeve that could have dealt with Cell (IT Kam...

Re: Why liǎng and not èr for the dragon?

But that doesn't work because #2 or 'second' would be dì'èr 第二, as in the "second" of something (dì'èr xin qiú - the "second" star dragonball). So if you translate it, if you want to say "The two-star dragonball": than it would be èr xin qiú. But if you want to say &quo...

Re: Why liǎng and not èr for the dragon?

You almost always use liang when referring to two of something in Chinese... like... I can't think of any times you'd use èr to refer to a pair (You might use 'yi xuang' (*isn't certain of the pinyin) to say "a pair", but never "èr xin"). There aren't really differences with oth...

Why liǎng and not èr for the dragon?

So I was looking through the Tidbits section and I ran into an unanswered bit of information along the way. In the Evil Dragons tidbit it states that liǎng means closer to 'pair' than it does to 'two', so why do they not use èr? I had a theory that maybe they used liǎng because they were saying that...
