Re: TOTALLY New "Cyborg or Android" essay! Needs proofreaders!
Yeah, I agree on the whole Dr. Gero viewing the twins as property. The way he talks about them, and the way they talk about themselves, as being programmed, and in other sort of removed/cold mechanical terms sort of says something about how they all view themselves. As for #8, I also forgot to menti...

Yeah, I'm not trying to advocate we change the whole "artificial human" thing now. It's too entrenched, and in English fandom we've added our own meanings to it.

Re: TOTALLY New "Cyborg or Android" essay! Needs proofreaders!
Yeah, the point in my rewriting the essay was mostly to point out Toriyama's own weirdness in using "jinzouningen", considering it actually is a word that excludes cyborgs in Japanese, even though that's what the twins are explicitly explained to be. There's a reason I went ahead and trans...

TOTALLY New "Cyborg or Android" essay! Needs proofreaders!
OMG SO EXCITED! *ahem* I mean, hi everyone. I've been working for days on redoing the Cyborg or Android essay for Lovely Cyborg (check signature). It's totally redone and includes all sorts of fun stuff like scans, translation of Japanese material, and seriously nerdy breakdowns of the definition of...

Re: The near-dead Lovely Cyborg shrine needs your help!
Maphisto! This is so awesome to see Walk This World made into a comic! Right now I am trying to remember what all the iconic, supergood DB fanfics (with #18 in them) of the old era were, and WTW was definitely one of them. As for other suggestions (and minor accolades! thank you! u_u;;), I'm still t...

The near-dead Lovely Cyborg shrine needs your help!
Hi ya'll. Eighteen here. So, I haven't posted on the board for ages -- forgive me. As the post title says, I'm reviving my shrine to #18 (link in my signature) ... as we speak! Most of the other #18 fan shrines (hell, all of them) are dead and gone, and so are the fanfics and fanart that was on them...

You have my permission! Finals are over for me in Japan. (Sorry, this is my poor excuse for why I never ever post here. I wonder how Julian did on his proficiency test ...) Anyway, good call on the lack of pictures. Post some links to galleries for the listeners out there! I'll just throw up my fave...

I think a guide would be absolutely wonderful. However...the chance of fanboys coming along and stating whatever they read on the site as the pure word of Toriyama is high. I think most of us have a decent grasp of Japanese basics, and there would have to be a lot of thought put into how the dialect...

=nervous laugh= Yes... funny you should mention that. Cause, um... one of the staffers at the con ending up bidding on those three Daizenshuu (1, 5, and 7). She told me that there were three hardcover artbooks that no one was bidding on, so she did. She won them all for twelve dollars. Then she foun...

Ahh a lot of mistakes, as expected. I only actually got one landscape image wrong. =flexes muscle= I didn't understand that it was specifically Dragonball though... a lot of my wrong choices were Toriyama, but not Dragonball. Sadface. But I got the 18/Krillin kiss right, so go me! Congrats to Daniel...

People who get sleeves and their whole backs (or any other large part of their body) tattooed usually have it done over several sessions. First there's outlining and then filling in, and then more outlining and filling in. Hah. It probably took him several sessions to get that whole thing completed,...

Yeah, I feel the same way. While I love 18 to death, and I've thought about getting maybe like...some sort of tattoo regarding her, having been such a big part of my life (rp'ing her for like 7 years and all), I just don't think I could do it and be sure I'd still love it years later. Still, it's re...

DB Tattoos
Well, I was looking to round up some new cosplay pictures when I happened upon this delightful forum. There's a DB tattoo thread and a bunch of neat pictures, specifically the third guy down with his entire back covered: http://anime.myfavoritegames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9954 But...correct m...

Japanese DBZ Arcade Cabinet. Hilarious.
I was searching on Rinkya for Dragonball auctions, when I came across this lil beauty... http://www.rinkya.com/twview.pl?URL=http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d46301467 Now, I do believe that is one of the Budokai games being played. If you translate the page, the seller says that the cab...

Just try and tell me that tapping Cell on the shoulder before walloping him in the chin wasn't badass. Ohhhh heeheeheeheeee! Did I ever have a squealing fangirl moment when I first saw THAT part. :DDD That goes right up there with Piccolo slapping away Cell's makankosappo (sp?) like it t'weren't no...
