Re: Harmony Gold is still active so couldn't they make a deal with FUNimation?

This dub was produced 30 years ago and Harmony Gold is now primarily a real estate company. I doubt they've got a lot to offer.

Re: Why did the Blue Water and Big Green dubs keep the original score?

As far as AB supposedly being behind these dubs, this is another case of confusion, like the Westwood dub. They oversaw the distribution and release of these in the UK and the Netherlands, yes (along with Warner Vision International), but they weren't behind the dub. Fans at the time inquired for i...

Re: TeamFourStar and Fair Use

Using footage from the actual show doesn't violate fair use. That's why the term "Fair use" even exists. You are using the "actual footage" in a fair fashion. The requirements are that it is transformative in nature and not a market substitute for the original work . Both of tho...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

It's funny you guys should mention the foreign dubs. I was checking Jason Cooper's (Ocean's video editor for Kai) site and noticed this entry on his Kai page : - Performed the final quality control in various languages. We've gotten a few indications of this, but it once again leads me to believe To...

The Adult Swim programming is staying with Corus. They wouldn't be putting up billboards or teasing bumpers if they were going to lose it to someone else. YTV has also slowly started to air anime again. The channel is home to Bakugan Battle Planet reruns and brought back Pokemon for a special event...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

As a kid I remember channels getting minimal advertising and then just showing up. But tbh, maybe they just get the license on April 1st and still have a lot of work to get done? They don't have to roll out the red carpet, but not even a press release a month before is odd. They're probably gonna p...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

The fact that we're a month away from launch and Wow hasn't even issued a press release is concerning. They haven't even properly announced the channel's name or initial marquee lineup. Gives me the "afterthought" vibe.

I remember when some click farm posted an article saying Abridged is the best way to watch DBZ.

Toei probably could've used that as proof of damages in a lawsuit. :problem:

Re: Are There Any Updates On The Harmony Gold Dub Of Dragon Ball?

Considering this was the first English dub of any Dragon Ball content EVER it deserves to be more widely available than it is right now. I'm going to be that guy. The first ever English dub of any Dragon Ball material was produced by Frontier Enterprises in the mid-late '80s. It's far more elusive ...

Ocean WANT this on TV & tried offering it to YTV many times (what do they have that Wow! don't?) Partnerships with Disney, Hasbro, Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. Corus (the owner of YTV, Teletoon and a host of other channels) has largely stopped picking up third party acquisitions outside of thos...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Don't know how Quebec Canadians feel about not having their own dub of Dragon Ball series and movies but suppose they're fine with the dubs from France. Not a tonne of shows get French Canadian dubs, especially anime. Hollywood movies are far more common, which occasionally creates weird situations...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I'd be very surprised if ACTRA is at all an issue here. They've offered an upfront buy-out fee for ages that most productions take advantage of. That negates any kind of residuals. None of this should be new to Wow either, as they're a Canadian animation studio who've used many of the same actors in...

Quebec performance: https://www.cinoche.com/films/box-office Ranked #9 opening weekend, with $45,519 across 7 screens. The film was only screened in English. National Canadian figures will probably take a few weeks to go public. Canada is typically included in the U.S. boxoffice figures, so this is ...

Deadline had a similarly outlandish prediction for Resurrection F's U.S./Canada total after its first few days, too. I suspect the people writing for them don't really understand the nature of these releases.

Re: Looks like Netflix picked up DBZ for the Netherlands (and other EU countries perhaps?)

On a more serious note there, probably highly unlikely we will see any alternate dubs on Netflix, they will more than likely just go for whatever version of the series is the most cheap, convenient and easy to license, that being Funimation's remastered dub of Dragon Ball Z. This might be the most ...

Re: Did FUNimation release digital booklets of the Dragon Box Z ones?

Funimation only did one production run of the Dragon Boxes, meaning each would've shipped with a physical booklet. If they only offered a digital version of the one included in the season sets because they stopped including a print copy, they probably wouldn't have bothered with the Dragon Boxes.
