Re: Dragon Ball and Toxic Masculinity
Honestly, both the Left and the Right are patronizing in their own ways. I always get the feeling that left-wingers would only tolerate right-wingers if they agreed them with on everything. I mean, most historians seem to criticize Republicans for not liking the New Deal and wish every Republican wa...

Re: Dragon Ball and Toxic Masculinity
I never really thought of Dragon Ball as being overly toxic in masculinity.
It's hardly as toxic in masculinity as any Stallone, Schwarzenegger or Chuck Norris flick.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 13; Still Unreleased
One thing recently discovered by the BTVA guys is that Willow Johnson voiced Android 18 at some point in the Westwood dub. Most people know her for being the voice of Kikyo in the Ocean dub of Inuyasha. https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/tv-shows/Dragon-Ball-Z/Android-18/ Not gonna lie, she sounds...

It's said that Brice Armstrong once met James Earl Jones, who told him: "I wish I had your vocal control."

Re: Deep Thoughts: The Piccolo Daimao Saga
I know that some people hate King Piccolo for being too one-dimensional as a villain, but I love him. This is more or less when Dragon Ball became darker in tone, but also kept its lightheartedness. Seriously, this arc is the definition of dark. Krillin, Master Roshi and Chiaotzu freaking die. Even ...

Also, ABED might recognize Mai's Ocean voice as being Teryl Rothery, who appeared in Supernatural.

Kirbopher said at the BTVA forum that he has personally met the voice actress who voiced Bulma in Kai, and it's not any of the actresses who previously voiced her.

I always liked Junpei Takiguchi's performance as Baba. It reminds me of Ed Asner's Granny Goodness.

Re: Deep Thoughts: The Emperor Pilaf Saga
It'll never cease to amaze me that Shigeru Chiba would go on to voice Raditz in Z, and he voiced Pilaf here.
Two wildly different voices, one goofy and high-pitched while the other deep and gruff.

The Tournament Saga is a whole load of fun. Memorable fights, most particularly the finals between Goku and Jackie Chun.

I came across an old interview with Gen Fukunaga where he said that they originally had another voice actor in mind when casting Vegeta, but that voice actor was extremely busy, so Drummond got the part.
Fukunaga even wanted to replace Drummond with another actor once they got to the Namek arc.

Re: Which character has the best voice in the Funimation dub?
Chris Ayres as Frieza and Brice Armstrong as the narrator.
I like Doc Morgan and all, but I wish Kai had kept Armstrong. Hell, Armstrong should have been King Kai instead of Sean Schemmel.

Re: How would the Dragon Ball fandom react if Jiren were made into a gay man?
Nowadays, I much prefer using the term "socially intolerant" than "socially conservative". Barbara Stanwyck, one of my favorite actresses, was conservative, but she treated her black maid well, not exactly someone like Charles Coburn or Walter Brennan, who were racist assholes. S...

I was in no way suggesting that people should get away with doing horrible things, I'm not one of those people. I'm pretty sure that I agree with Kunzait when he said that Mel Gibson can go fuck himself. Even still, I wouldn't want to stop watching the Mad Max movies or Braveheart, much as I wouldn'...

Re: Vic Mignogna has lost his appeal and must pay out more and the appeals opinion is that he is a sexual predator
ISWV never cared about Vic's career or his well-being. They just wanted to confirm their bias in whatever imaginary crusade they think they are on (see SJWs are taking over the world, ahh feminism, etc). Had they cared for Vic, ISWV would have given him a useful advice: hire a PR agency, apologize ...

I mean, there's nothing wrong with a gay character in an anime. The only people who find it wrong are the socially intolerant types.
