Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

No system? How about basic realism? Again you're putting way too much importance on this idea that all teenage boys in cartoons need to sound alike. Even if that is the standard it doesn't mean it always needs to be conformed to. Casting a realistic voice for a character of a certain age isn't sudd...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

"I don't have a problem with Hebert's Gohan because I know actual 17 year olds that sound like that", which is what Jjgp and 90sDBZ are arguing, isn't arbitrary in the slightest. Firstly, I don't have a problem with them liking Kyle Hebert's Gohan, it's the arguing for Kyle Hebert as a pe...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

The problem is your criteria is incredibly arbitrary and you've gone back and forth from "unrealistic" to "too realistic." I don't see how that second bit applies to me since I wasn't arguing for realism. But your first criticism is ironic to me considering the actual arbitrary ...

This misses the point I've already made and I really can't be bothered going over the same thing again.

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

And you clearly don't understand or appreciate animation casting. I've already pointed out numerous times why your real-life argument has no real merit yet you've ignored it (or don't bother to read). Since there's no discussion to be had here other than a pointless back and forth I won't waste time...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

My response isn't just anecdotal though. 17 year old boys having deep voices is not only extremely common but the norm, and unless the only ones you've heard are in cartoons you should already know this. But once again that doesn't matter, I've already responded to this same argument. Fictional cas...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

But, like...Gohan's voice isn't even an outlier. I'd wager the vast majority of 17-year-old males sound like grown men. I'm not concerned with what's common outside of fiction or what people's personal anecdotes are, I've already made that clear as possible. Throughout most animated media teenage m...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

You literally complained that he sounds too old to be 17, and now you're saying comparing him to real life teenagers is redundant. :? Did you not read my posts? You were bringing up anecdotal evidence to attempt to justify why Kyle sounding older is fitting for teenage Gohan... As if that has any r...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

Again, I don’t think Kyle Hebert’s Gohan even sounds particularly old or unusual. Gohan is 17, not 12. I also don’t know what you mean by archetypes. Adults play teenagers all the time. Yes, adults play teenagers, but they're typically adults who sound like teenagers. Kyle does not share this trait...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

Kyle Hebert’s Gohan doesn’t sound particularly old to me. Gohan is chronologically 17 in the Boo arc (or 18 in the dub?), and I can buy an older teen sounding like that. Yeah it's really not that uncommon for 17 year olds, hell even 14 year olds to have very deep voices. Some of the guys I was in s...

Re: Should Funimation have kept Dameon Clark as Gohan?

I used to enjoy Dameon Clarke's Future Gohan quite a bit, particularly as his slight Canadian accent would remind me of Peter Kelamis at times. But putting that personal bias aside, while he felt like a serviceable voice for the more grizzled and authoritative Future Gohan, he would have been sorely...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 11; Still Unreleased

Did Matthew himself confirm that he wasn't back for Trunks? Yes. I asked him on facebook back in 2017 because I was curious about the same thing. I didn't share his response at the time but since that theory came up I thought I'd dispel it. His exact words were: No it's not top secret. As far as I ...

Doubtful, that casting really wouldn't have made sense. I could see him playing Bardock though.

Re: Are these four main women in Dragon Ball really "just house wives"?

The bigger issue with Bulma as a wife and mother is her entire relationship with Vegeta is predicated on Toriyama wanting to give Vegeta a son from the future and remembered that Bulma had a vagina. Every now and again the fandom has discourse on why would Bulma get with a warlord responsible for m...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 11; Still Unreleased

It's also incredibly unlikely. Why would Funimation do that? Clearly Funimation and Ocean have some working relationship. So the idea that Funimation would withhold the Japanese score out of some grade school level pettiness to make Ocean's job harder, especially when Ocean did the editing for them...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 11; Still Unreleased

The Nicktoons version of Kai 1.0 did have Ocean credited for video editing and production so it's reasonable to assume they were sharing materials for that at least. Whether they copied and pasted that same footage for their own dub is unclear but it's very likely given it's only for broadcast and n...

Anyway, if rumors are true, then you're in for some disappointment... https://youtu.be/bL4p-RLYlpE Now, I can't see this theme fitting in with their mission statement of a more accurate dub (going so far as pronouncing "Namek" as "Nah-mek"), but apparently... well... this is it....

I like the concept behind Oob. Basically, a human warrior reaches Goku levels of power through a combination of reincarnation magic and a gifted learning ability. It's a fresh creative approach to DB warrior design rather than simply falling back on having new Saiyans and aliens popping up in contri...

Re: Any FUNi dubisms you still find yourself saying from time to time?

So the fact that his romanized name, "Krillin," simply happens to work as a pun for "short warrior monk" ("krill" to indicate his short size and "lin" to indicate a Shaolin warrior monk) is nothing other than an amusing mistake. But, hey, I'll take it. Not on...
