Re: The Funimation Path To Power Credits

The earliest DVD pressings had the angle 1 use the screen-crush Cure Draggon 255 describes; the original Japanese credits were featured as angle 2.

Seems they did away with that in the re-releases.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Gotta agree with Char Aznable over here about the way people have reacted to this set. It's not... an ideal release - it's not even close to it - but the vitriol here rivals the Star Wars fandom. Personally, I don't find this nearly as disrespectful as the 16:9 releases. I'm miffed this is their ide...

I think the context is just a Weeb Simpsons joke, unless you mean what episode of the Simpsons this is from... I have no idea .

Re: New Animation VS Old Animation

All right, I'll grant you the character design flaws you listed above. That's down to personal taste. But you're comparing apples to oranges with Super and the movies. Of course the movies look better. Is there a single episode of the tv series that looks as good as anything you just posted? If you'...

Re: Cure Dragon (Latin American) Watches DBZ dubbed in engli

I do think Ron Wasserman helped a little with the score but I'm not certain. Didn't he do jat least Rock the Dragon? I know Levy usually gets full credit. I find it appropriate for the more sci-fi aspects of Z but I wouldn't pick it over Kikuchi. Great for Saturday Morning stuff. As for Yamcha and b...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion

Discotek very rarely if at all has to do any video work themselves. They simply don't have the budget to create new masters - they buy the rights to the newest Japanese ones. Also note that they can't even afford dubs for any of their properties. Of course they're going to listen to the fans - you d...

He's been active over on his twitter. If a shortform message is enough to get his attention I'd recommend just trying that for now - he used to have a habit of disappearing and not responding.

Re: Blu-ray Season Sets with Kai Dub

While I (like the majority of Kanzenshuu I might guess) take issues with FUNimation's 16:9 presentation of DBZ, I completely understand where you're coming from. The traced scenes stick out like a sore thumb to the point where I'd almost prefer a cropped presentation to Toei's reanimated scenes. So,...

The only one I can think of is people popcorn. It's one of those few moments that I think the Z dub captures Goku's stupidity and childish nature.

Re: Dragon Ball: Madman sets vs. Blue Bricks?

The Blue Bricks are pretty blurry thanks to aggressive DNR, and unlike the Madman/earlier FUNi saga sets they don't include the Japanese title cards. However, the improved bitrate is definitely worth the upgrade - especially if you watch your stuff on a big screen TV. As for the zooming? I concede t...

Re: Need someone to replace BOG music with Bruce Faulconer.

You'd probably be best off making your music selections for someone and then having them edit it into place, otherwise you might not be happy with the result.

I'm not in your camp but there are plenty others that would be interested... just, you may want to look elsewhere.

Re: The music in the Funimation Dub movies made them better.

I don't particularly like the replacement score, especially not the movies. But I think that the insert songs do a better job differentiating it from the series than the occasional movie-exclusive Kikuchi track. They help make it feel special. Never cared for the tracks themselves but I definitely s...

I believe there are a few legitimate sets from China that use this box art, but if it has English subtitles, it's a bootleg.

Re: Cardcaptor Sakura remaster and DB franchise

Nothing about DB Kai is truly HD except for the redrawn scenes and animation for the intro, ending and eycatchers. How is 16mm scanned in and presented at 1440x1080 not 'truly HD'? I don't see how your perception of clarity changes the definition of 'high definition'. You make it sound like everyth...

Re: Why does original audio matter when Funi's already fixed

I sincerely question your ability to discern audio quality if you think the work FUNi did was significant, let alone close, to the original quality. Quite snarky, don't you think? While it's not perfect, the FUNi improved audio is quite good considering the source. Definitely better than I could EQ...

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub

The Japanese DragonBox sets had a bonus feature that showed off some of the more ridiculous edits made in the early days of the FUNimation dub as still frames. I'd be interested in seeing some of the digital edits and the process that went behind them as a bonus feature on a domestic release - parti...

Re: When it all began for you

About 2000, I think, I saw the FUNi redub of Boss Rabbit's Magic Touch. I was hooked on the original series from there on. It took me until the later part of the Buu arc to get really into Z, though.

I still can't believe that edited OP is shorter than the Nicktoons one. That's just silly, especially if you consider the time slot differences and how that would affect amount of ad time necessary.

Re: Bootleg Korean DVDs screenshots

Hmm. Right off the top of my head: 1. poor bitrate. That doesn't look as bad as some of the other shots you've posted but it's filled with artifacts. 2. That particular shot is actually cropped (unlike the others) as well as filtered more than the blue bricks. I don't mind grainless animation as muc...
