Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Do they screw up other shows, or is DBZ in this weird "it's our cash cow, no need to put in effort" bubble? This is certainly my impression from what little I've heard of their other show releases. Dragon Ball, Z in particular, just seems to be stuck in this convoluted snarling seizure-la...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
At this point Dragon Ball fans should do what Star Wars fans have done. Create their own despecialize version of Dragon Ball Z There are multiple threads here I could point to for that, mainly "Recolouring the Dragon Boxes". I'm sorry, but the "Despecialized Z" comment doesn't m...

Re: What is the darkest arc in the original run?
I would say Daimao, most of which can be attributed to sheer contrast to the earlier arcs. It opens with Krillin being killed off-panel/screen (which is even worse in the anime), Goku becoming irreconsolably enraged for the first time, he fights Krillin's killer and loses BADLY, the entire cast thi...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
It's funny, when people dream of winning the lotto they think of things like, buy a big house, buy a Lamborghini, maybe a boat. All I dream about is having the $2.1m spare to buy all 6000 of these, pile them up outside and set them on fire so no one ever gets this release. I would actually spend it...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
1317/3000. Almost 12 hours since it was put up and already close to passing the half-way mark. I've said it before and i'll say it again, no matter how mucked up the quality of the video is the you can bet the causal Dragon Ball fans will come a knocking to buy anything that FUNi pumps out. Yeah. I...

Re: What is the darkest arc in the original run?
The Boo arc is pretty dark to me for similar reasons. The sinister foreboding surrounding Bobbidi's minions, and the sort of supernatural deadliness that they represent is disturbing. Plus the bleakness and hopelessness in the later half of the arc. Buu arc is definitely up there thanks to the mood...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
No, he said this new set would use the same film prints as the Levels sets (and the HD bricks). Which is what this set is. No false claims that I can see. That was AnimeMaauko I believe, not Geekdom. Packaging itself is literally a black box! Like jesus. This release has to be a legitimate joke! On...

I'm guessing that specific shot wasn't in Kai?Robo4900 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 4:17 pm Here's a comparison between Dragon Box, Ultimate Uncut, Level, 30th anniversary, and Season BD: http://www.framecompare.com/image-compa ... n/12E1NNNU

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
I hope not, because I could see them saying ‘Oh guys by the way that was placeholder footage, the real footage actually looks better!’ But by then, the set is sold out. Personally I think it'd be better if at least the footage was fine rather than it being garbage both in marketing and on the discs...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Are we sure that is actual footage from this release? I don’t know if I buy it is. I mean looking at the actual set purely excluding the actual video footage it looks like the dragon boxes with character images on each disc, the art book, the packaging, clearly something Toei animation designed. I ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
It's basically the Blu-ray remaster in 4:3. The image with the crowd looks worse though but maybe it's just the size of the picture giving that impression. I disagree, if you compare the Raditz footage there's a LOT of his arms that gets removed (neither of his hands are visible, for example). http...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
They didn't do that, though. There is clearly more footage on the top and bottom of the 30th set , meaning they had to have zoomed in from the original 4:3 frame and not the already cropped 16:9 BDs. Hey, I hate it too, but saying that it's a straight crop of the 16:9 BDs is a bit of an exaggeratio...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
The funny part is if this was just an uncropped version of the shitty Blu-rays out now, at $350 I would be disappointed but I would buy it, because at least it's a Blu-ray release in 4:3 and I already have the Dragon Boxes. I guess? But a crop of a crop? Fuck off with that shit. Yeah, a crop of a c...
