Re: How would the Dragon Ball fandom react if Jiren were made into a gay man?
The joke is that Roshi doesn't like fat women. In fact, people in general don't find fat people attractive. It's not offensive at all. It's reality. Plus it's been established from the beginning Roshi doesn't like fat women so I don't mind that part. My problem is that DBS made Roshi into a borderli...

Re: "Dragon Ball FighterZ" Official Discussion Thread
Does anybody else want DBFZ2 to have a "World Tour" mode like SF6 is gonna have or like MK Deception did? This would be a great idea for the new story mode. Have it be largely open-world then switch to regular gameplay for major battles. Way better than the pointless board game. Dragon Wo...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Doesn't matter how you get to the pot of gold. All that matters is that you beat the leprechauns. What exactly is the "pot of gold" in this little analogy of yours, and who are the leprechauns? The point is Dragon Ball became a basic template for many other works in the media. Doesn't mat...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
By this logic, so were the countless hundreds/thousands of movies, TV shows, books, and comics that inspired Dragon Ball. Those were all a fevered imagination as well then I guess: Dragon Ball invented and defined fantasy martial arts mixed with comedy completely from wholecloth and came from a vac...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
I guess the countless content creators from various mediums siting Dragon Ball as inspiration for their work is just a fever dream then. You really seem to have dug yourself into a preconception hole, looking for ways to bury yourself in, while others continuously throw ropes down to pull you out. ...

Re: How would the Dragon Ball fandom react if Jiren were made into a gay man?
Of course it's not appropriate that's the joke. Why do you think Krillin has that reaction. He's there to defend the Earth, three attractive criminals show up and Roshi is distracted by them because of their looks. Then he's repulsed when they turn into a fat ugly monstrosity. It's just a simple st...

Re: Akira Toriyama getting cancelled
Yeah, there's nothing new about any of this. Lady Red is a gross short comic and Toriyama has made gross jokes before. "Cancel culture" is a fake problem made up by bad-faith grifters trying to remove accountability for misconduct, because they like misconduct and want to do more of it. T...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
What middling success? The cartoon has been artistically successful and remained a core part of the media mix for the franchise. Similarly, the cartoon has been a a boon for Dragon Ball as a media mix, helping to keep the franchise in the public eye across the globe. Come on y'all, we're Dragon Bal...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Not....really...the point. Nobody is trying to tell you Pokemon is as good or better than Dragon Ball. Just that it is by definition not a fad, when it has stayed financially successful and engrained in the pop culture subconscious. Not quite the point I was getting at either. I'm posing a question...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Well, let's look at it this way: When you become 80 and you try to school your grandkids on some Dragon Ball and Pokemon lore. You talk about Goku vs. Frieza and the first Pokemon movie. Which would do you think will impress them more? Not....really...the point. Nobody is trying to tell you Pokemon...

Re: Akira Toriyama getting cancelled
This reminds me of Nick Cannon trying to cancel Eminem with that Foolish Pride track (which is almost as old as Lady Red) like it's a shocking and new revelation. Only difference is Foolish Pride is actually hateful and racist (on top of not being a very good song in general) while Lady Red is just ...

Just because a 30 year old comic hurt some random SJW's feelings doesn't mean Toriyama is being cancelled.

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Anything is possible when you make up the rules. I don't make the rules, sorry. I just know the game. There's only brief periods when Dragon Ball truly released "nothing" You had video games being released at the turn of the millennium. Boxsets of the series being released in the 00s. A r...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Clearly the cartoon does well with its target audience. Its just adults seem less interested in the anime. Kids are people too. Barely. But still. Yeah, it still has a niche but to be truly successful, you gotta crossover. Fads go away in a year or two. They don't make big money over 25 years later...

Re: DB doesn't really belong to Toriyama anymore, does it?
It was never really his property. It was Shueisha's from the beginning but they still consult him for ideas and the overall plot lines for DBS because he's highly respected within the industry.

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
Pokemon as a media franchise is far bigger than Dragon Ball but people don't really care about the Pokemon anime these days outside nostalgia for the first season. The Dragon Ball anime franchise has remained highly popular throughout the years without an anime series consistently running (even thou...

Re: Is Dragon Ball the biggest manga/anime series globally?
If we're talking about strictly anime/manga then yes, Dragon Ball rules the anime/manga kingdom. One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail, My Hero Academia, etc. are its children.
