Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
From what I've seen/heard of the dub, it's alright. There are definitely some standout performances, but I'm not sure it really stands up to the FUNimation dub of Super. At most, as a whole, I think they are at lesst somewhat equal perhaps. What I find interesting is the fact that they kept sone du...

This. Too often we forget just how long in the teeth some of our finest artists tend to be, & how fortunate we are that so many legends are still around.Cipher wrote:Toriyama's a phenomenal talent, and I'm glad to be reminded he's only sixty-two years young.

Re: Is Toriyama a Jehovah witness? Or some other religious sect?
In that same thread, Kei17 mentioned AT also said: "基本的に宗教は嫌い (I basically dislike religions)". I can see Toriyama as this type of person. Also, interestingly, JulieYBM mentioned that Toshio Furukawa is Christian. I was not expecting that & was very surprised to hear it. Not personally...

Re: Bra's name
Both of those examples (Spongebob and Kids Next Door) are from around 10 years ago though; censorship on kids' shows has only gotten heavier and more invasive in recent years, right? Parents are way more sensitive nowadays. Isn't that why a lot of new kids shows are comedies instead of action shows...

Re: Bra's name
Short story is that imports get more skepticism/criticism from TV producers because they dont really control the overall story. At least, that's the impression that I get. Japan, who are noted for their much darker allowance for children's media, did the same thing with Saban's X-Men series. 4Kids, ...

How long do you expect Dragon Ball Super to run?
So back when this show was announced, I think it mightve Geekdom that pointed this out, but no one really knows how long they may keep this show going. It's so surprising that we have a new series at all, & you do wonder how long they'll keep it going? We're at 85 episodes now, & now that I ...

Re: Bruce Faulconer or Shunsuke Kikuchi ?
Status quo here would be to recommend the Japanese score (which is *the* score). Overall the English dub for DBZ is not notable outside of historical context. In fact I believe most fans of dubs in general, would say it is exceptionally bad. The replacement music for DB was all intended to provide a...

Re: What's the best way to introduce DragonBall to kids?
Is it an American thing? Foreign children are used to watching English movies or TV shows all the time. It's totally an American thing. In the poorer areas of the South, there are plenty of people who only communicate well enough to get by. However, even in the areas where that's not a problem, the...

Re: What's the best way to introduce DragonBall to kids?
I have asked this question in a thread before, & in general, due to the loads of censorship/imperialism/Toei's ignorance & greed, I dont think there's a real ideal way that's kid-friendly honestly. The Dragon Ball "part 1" official dubs are inaccurate, halfway miscast although they...

Re: What's so bad about 'Bulla?'
I don't remember when they went from Tien to Tien shin han. Kai? The ultimate uncuts? Their dub of the original series? It was strange because it was some halfway spot in between his dub and real name. It was always Tien Shinhan. Just shortened to "Tien" because it's easier for lip-sync.

Re: What's so bad about 'Bulla?'
Censorship & cultural imperialism. In this case, the pervasion of it into what was originally a very respectable product. Cultural imperialism, how do you figure? "Our product is better than other (usually marginalized, in Japanese media's case) product". The case here wasnt even real...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread
On his interview with The Codec (that's a Metal Gear reference), Richard Epcar mentioned he was in "the new Dragon Ball". He's done some stuff for FUNi before, in Fujiko Mine (as Zenigata because Sabat had been doing Jigen), but I'm leaning towards the assumption he's in Toonami Asia's dub...

Re: What happened when Dragon Ball was dubbed?
They have improved their dubs, but not the way you want them to. I think BioZero216 (even though I hate the guy) said once on Twitter that budget doesn't make a good dub, passion does. Good leadership & understanding of the process (scheduling/organizing talent) make a good dub. But the people ...

Re: Who saw the Japanese version as a kid?
People in this thread have reminded me that I also had all three Dragon Ball PlayStation games as a thirteen-year-old (super cool kid right here), so that was another bit of exposure to the Japanese voices. I didn't really think anything of it. Would you say the conversation here is more implicativ...

Re: What happened when Dragon Ball was dubbed?
Long story short, if you're talking about script & preservation of the story, I'd say they'd amassed a huge audience who didnt necessarily want anime (thru their Z adaptation), but they also wanted to appease fans who'd discovered fansubs. Internet availability was rapidly improving, & there...

Re: Is the Japanese Version Underrated?
I don't think I will ever know why non-union dubs bother so many people. Union or not, the point is that the companies dont really take the dub as seriously as the fans may take it. Aside from the overall accuracy, the shoddy production of values of specificly DB's introductory dubs, are a testamen...

Re: Is the Japanese Version Underrated?
the Funimation 1999-2005 dub was consider to be awful and one of the worst dubs next to the DIC dub of Sailor Moon. While the DiC Sailor Moon dub was terrible, there were some good voices such as Tracey Moore's Sailor Moon and Susan Roman's Sailor Jupiter. The dub just needed better directors, bett...

Re: Who saw the Japanese version as a kid?
In general I would say that I didnt have Cartoon Network growing up (still dont, though I might just subscribe once we get Stardust Crusaders in a few weeks), so it was really the comics & some of the games (dubbed with FUNi VAs) that were my exposure, on top of peripheral exposure through the h...
