"Minna...ore ni genki o wakete kure."

"wakeru", as you guessed, means to share or divide.

Sort of. “Yatsu” is a slang way to refer to a person, sort of similar to “guy” or “dude” in English. It can also be used to refer to objects (such as Buu’s antenna), but I’ve never seen a good explanation of when exactly you can use this term. Anyway, it’s very, very common in DB.

It’s good to see that I’ve gotten some positive responses so far. I’m very thankful to SaiyaJedi for that extremely useful information on dialects. I remember it taking me forever to figure out why Muten Roshi kept ending everything he said in “ja”. Anyways, I’ve worked up a rough outline of what I ...

Japanese for the Dragonball fan

I’ve been learning Japanese on and off for a year or so now, and as a fan of Dragonball I have several of the Japanese volumes of the manga. I have had these volumes for several years, long before I knew the first thing about Japanese. It is only now, after having gotten a basic education in the lan...

No, I’m pretty sure it’s just a trick of the unusual lighting or a mistake. Up until they actually start to merge, Vegeta is clearly in his normal form, they never show him transform and there really isn’t any time for it anyway. Also, in the manga Vegeta’s hair doesn’t look light as they merge.

The “M” is in the original Japanese as well. There is just a capital English letter M with furigana indicating that it should be read simply as “M” (well, “Emu” anyway). I don’t know why they it’s like that, though.

You're in the wrong part of the woods. To meet up with Goten, go up at the first or second screen of the forest. The level 140 character gate just leads to some special item. You don't need to open in right now, and can't anyway. Unless you over train to an insane degree, Gohan won't be level 140 un...

Piccolo and the Peach-Boy

In DragonBall, there is an episode right after the climatic battle with Piccolo Daimao where Piccolo’s egg is found by an elderly couple. I always thought that this was a rather funny scene, if for no other reason then the baby Piccolo ends up burning their house down. However, the other day I reali...

Unsurprisingly, a lot of the characters in those screen-shots are unfamiliar to me. Could anyone help shed some light on the identities of some of them? Who, for instance, is that psychotic football player who appears in several of the pictures? Some people I did recognize were Hikaru and Sai from H...

That’s real good, Xyex. I think random battles would work pretty well that way. Still, I think there should be a good portion of leveling up that comes from some sort of training, instead of random battles. You know, like the gravity room or something. You could get experience for doing some sort of...

Well, having finally found the previously mentioned letter to Toriyama, (it’s in Volume 4 of Viz’s translation) I see that are ideas are not so far off: Q. Okay, I’ve figured it out…Dragon Ball is based on the old Chinese legend Saiyuki (Journey to the West). Even the characters are the same: Bulma ...

That sounds pretty good so far. However, if you still want to preserve that Z feeling, who would you have level-up battles against? An interesting thing that I would like to see would be the ability to adjust your chi. Basically, when you fight against someone, you can choose what percentage of your...

He gives Goku the Kinto-Un, but Goku has the ability to walk on clouds in the legend...I honestly have no idea how Toriyama thought he had intigrated the horse into DB! Like I said, it was Yamcha who Toriyama said was based off of Sandy. I think it was in Volume 2 or 3…Anyway, I think Yamcha counts...

Blither it, I forgot those people…It’s been way, way too long since I’ve read my (incredibly abridged) translation of “Journey to the West”, so I’m rather rusty. Now, Oolong is based off of Pigsy, and Yamcha was based off of Sandy. Pigsy and Sandy (I swear that those are the actual names my translat...

You know, I’ve always wondered about that. As near as I can figure, it could have to do with the fact that “piccolo” is also the name of an instrument. You might have to get a different sort of copyright for a preexisting word used in a new way. I can’t remember, but does Cell have an R or a TM? Bec...

Not to say that DB doesn't have lots of stuff that's been done before too. It's concept is taken straight from "Journey to the West". Not so much. It is no secret that the very first story arc, where Goku and Bulma search for the Dragon Balls, is directly based off of "Journey to the...
