Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I absolutely believe Dragon Ball Super could easily be better, but I don't really much see a point to discussions like "it's existence isn't justifiable" because there's no putting that genie back in the bottle. I don't have to think about it—or any part of the franchise, for that matter....

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Actually, Caulifla/Kale/Kefla are very popular characters, which is not surprising. They are the first Super Saiyan girls. I'm not really referring to their popularity in general, I'm referring to their importance as characters, which I don't expect your average cishet guy to understand unless thei...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

I mean, it's nebulous as to whether or not the original 1984 comic was 'necessary', but whatever. I think Dragon Ball Super 's contributions are important, although I don't think those contributions (female characters, queerness that is a bit more than just subtext) are going to be important to you...

likely in the 9AM Sunday slot Interestingly, it's looking like it might not be in that slot. Tousouchuu is currently at that time and one of the PAs was spotted on Twitter saying "One year left!", so unless it's somehow being moved, it's possible that Daima will take the Sunday night Fuji...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I'm starting to wonder if Daima will be released all at once or release weekly. We know there will be a Fuji TV airing, but that doesn't discount it from getting a batch release on streaming. I'm hoping it's weekly since that builds discussion and hype, also it's easier to keep up that way. I still...

Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products

Man of Steel storyboard artist Jay Oliva cited Dragon Ball Z as one of the influences for the climatic battle https://twitter.com/jayoliva1/status/1003647405231751169?t=EsZAfjYztfv6Qr9ysMiXqA&s=19 Big Dragon Ball Z fan Michael B. Jordan named Dragon Ball Z among other shonen anime as an influen...

Re: Godzilla Evolved was inspired by Goku

I might give the Monsterverse another shake. I've had my kaiju needs fulfilled by Shin Ultraman, Shin Gojira, and Gojira Minus One lately, but KotM and the VS films might be interesting.

If the form isn't complete then I'm curious how it's going to look in the next film lol.

Re: Godzilla Evolved was inspired by Goku

That's cool. I haven't followed the Monsterverse (the bits and pieces that I have seen have bored me death, and I'm currently writing this post from Kaiou-sama's planet), but it's neat to see a slight Kaiou-ken reference in a major film. I'm curious how the new form works? Judging by the trailer it ...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)

I like blood and hyper violence, because animators tend to make it look cool. It's a nice flavor to have, and one that I wish wasn't quite for hampered due to the commercial interests of the relatively select few projects that are made. That being said, it's quite obvious that if we were going to ge...

Re: Dragon Ball influences in Western products

In My Adventures With Superman, Mxy is redesigned to look a bit like a Kaioushin, and employs some Majin Buu-esque techniques, like splitting into multiple selves and firing off ki blasts.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

Plenty of people go on-and-on about how much they love Dragon Ball on this forum all the time, the extended discussion typically just blooms out of discussing our criticisms because that's what leads to extended discussion. You can only say, "Wow, I sure do love [x]!" so many times and rep...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

We needed four Broli movies because he's sexy.

I'm just glad we didn't get a fourth Broli film with fucking modern Yamamuro Tadayoshi designing him and correcting the animation. :|

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 103 - Official Discussion Thread

I had the re-write this entire posts because I wrote it as if the guy was still alive. :| Anyhoo, I think that what the issue was with Toriyama's writing is that his use of his tools was still relatively immature. He only had one way of writing—especially after a while—and it often meant just repeat...

Re: Is Super on its way out?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to make the next arc the beginning of a new series, simply because they wouldn't be able to call those arcs overseen by Toriyama. It'll be interesting to see how the production committee members handle stuff moving forward.

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

I wouldn't discount the Pokemon animated franchise. While the majority of the focus from casual fans is unfortunately only the Kantou stuff, it's still a major face of the franchise and associated with anime in general. The first film also did very well in theaters. Aaah, and now I'm missing the Sat...
