Why is your account deactivated if you change your e-mail?

Why is your account deactivated if you change your e-mail?

I'm really curious about this. I changed by e-mail address almost two days ago and have been deactivated until this morning. I've never seen a website do this before. What's the reason?

Just for the record, this is automatic in phpBB. There's nothing we can do about it. Basically, it isn't something we can just turn off.
