A few years back when I was feeling obsessive compulsive with the first Budokai game, I noticed Yamamoto actually riped off Blink-182's 'Dysentery Gary' on the options menu. You may not be able to realise this at first (particularly if you arn't very musical) but if you know musical notes and chords you'll notice a very distint simlarity.

Blink-182 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYog7aSma74

Yamamoto http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJNav-zHPyc

Not exactly the same as ones punk rock and the others more of a chill out coffee club easy listening piece but there is a point in Yamamoto's score that reminds me of the chorus of Dysentery Gary. If you have trouble hearing what I mean just sing to yourself, "It doesn't work as your just a jerk with no excuse". Judge for yourself.

Found the missing link to Yamamoto's "Battle point Unlimited". It appears Yamamoto mixed Propaganda's "Murder of Love",
"P Machinery" and various bits in "The Chase" to get his resulted track, Tell me if he mixed anything else into it.

I noticed the similarities between Be Good To Yourself & Embrace The Blue Sky a while back, & decided to mix them together. It's crazy how well it works:

After reading this entire thread my mind is kinda frazzled at the minute. At least my favourite Budokai tracks weren't rip-offs....OR ARE THEY?

Some are.

I'll likely throw SOME type of feature together in the near future, but a couple of the tracks from the DBZ1 & 2 OST are pulled from the band Stratovarius, the beginning of a DBZ3 OST track is taken from Journey's "Be Good To Yourself"... though that latter is more in the "homage" category than the first two...

At this point, I wonder how much is a matter of "the right person hasn't come with the right other music familiarity", whereby I mean that there are likely more and more that we just don't know 'cuz someone with the right experience hasn't noticed and come forward. I can only do so much on my own :D.

You got all of the major ones, but there's also some minor ones that only make up small parts of the song. I pieced together a version of Battle Point Unlimited using Propaganda's songs the other day, and though some of them are a stretch I really think even those parts were at least a subconscious influence on Yamamoto.

What really surprises me about Kenji Yamamoto is the amount of music he can lift from ONE artist while expecting to get away with it, especially when said artist is so recognizable, even to Japanese people. He used parts of Velvet Revolver's Do it for the Kids in Hurricane Challenger (Budokai 2 Soundtrack), Slash's Snakepit's The Alien was used in Like a Burning Wind (Budokai 2 Soundtrack), and the most obvious is his use of Slash's Snakepit's Ain't Life Grand in 12AM Shuffle (Budokai 3 Soundtrack).

Aside from Slash's songs, these two also come to mind: Thrilling Time from the Budokai 1+2 soundtrack obviously draws its inspiration from two Black Sabbath songs, Black Sabbath and Iron Man, and Tropica from the Infinite World soundtrack takes a lot from a Sonic Adventure 1 song (I can't recall which).

...At this point, it seems like a thread listing what songs AREN'T rip offs would be a shorter list...it's kinda disappointing. I expected better from the guy (though I don't know why).

Do we even know of any songs that sound like nothing anyone has done (to most people's awareness of course)?

His work on DBZ: Legends seems to be pretty original, & I'd consider that his best, personally.

But, as EX said, these may be ripoffs as well, & I've just never heard the originals.

His music in Dragon Ball Kai seems pretty original so far.

The first song that comes to mind is the music that plays in Station Square. The two do sound somewhat similar, but aren't identical. The drum intros are the part that the two songs have most in common I think.

Infinite World - Tropica

Sonic Adventure 1/DX - Station Square

This is more like just "influenced by" than a plagiarism, but I thought I should put this.

I keep thinking I'm hearing a super awesome arranged version of a Butoden 3 track but in reality I've been hearing a 16 bit version of a TV show theme this whole time. My world is upside down!

Ah Kenji.
Rip off or not, you'll be sorely missed by some..
The video games will not be the same without you.... that's even if there are going to be any video games from now on.
Is anyone else getting a really bad vibe about the series recently? :?
