Haven't read all of this thread, so I apologize if this has been answered many times already, but what happened to Yamamoto? I mean, as far as his career and penalty for committing this crime goes? Did he have to pay any money? Jail? I mean, I assume there had to be some actions taken; plagiarism of this level is a very big deal...

He got banned from the franchise and probably nothing more has been done. He voluntarily stopped working as a composer and now arranges songs for Kageyama.

This one's kinda vague, but Yamamoto's one reminded me of Vangelis's piece as soon as I first listened to it.

Yeah, he did plagiarize, but I kinda don't care since his music was better than the stuff he copied from for the most part imo.

Yamamoto is responsible for some of the few themes I did enjoy in the original OST. Why'd people have to go rat on him?!

Because he was a thief?

No one had to know!

...even if his rip-offs were so blatantly obvious. xD

It's amazing enough that he survived as long as he did in his DB career. And I'm happy of that, without him we wouldn't get awesome openings like Kiseki, Progression, Battle of Omega.

He doomed himself by plagiarizing Hollywood films in the Kai soundtrack.
You'd think as a professional thief, he'd be more savvy and know what not to plagiarize, but apparently he was deluded enough to think he could get away with it like he always does.

I'm not exactly sure if these songs were arranged by Yamamoto, to be quite honest, but they sound somewhat alike in my opinion.

Listen to about the first minute of theses songs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxmrnkW-IdQ - Hatsukoi Wa Kumo Ni Notte (DB Image Song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuejoIh0Cfk - It's One of Those Nights (The Partridge Family)

I kinda thinking I'm making a bit of a stretch, but the guitar notes are very similar.

And another example I can think of is "Hey you, Crasher" from Hit 16 and "Parasite" by Kiss also sound very similar, but I can't find a video for the Dragon Ball song. :?

Budokai 2 Opening

??? soundtrack from DBKai

I noticed this the first time I saw that episode air on Nicktoons. I knew the name of the soundtrack initially but forgot. Does anyone else know?

I thought Yamamoto himself composed that Budokai 2 opening theme. (http://www.kanzenshuu.com/lyrics/ja-kusuburu_heart/)
Does that still count since he was ripping off himself?

EDIT: here's the Kai song, called "The Victor's Dance": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX5aPaFCs28

We discussed this years ago and reached the same conclusion.
It's most likely a rip-off, from the song you mentioned.

Thanks for the link to the Kai song> Been looking for it for a while.

And wow at that thread. Apparently, the whole thing could have been inspired from this song from the movie Braveheart:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk8323r577w (skip to 2:42). It's basically a slower version of the Budokai 2 chorus.

So basically, Yamamoto kind of plagiarized a song from that movie, then "remixed" his own plagiarized theme.

I think it's mixture of the Braveheart theme and Giri Giri Chop by B'z. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr7xTGTG-Mo#t=50s

That guy could have trouble being trusted to be a composer for anything by anyone now.

It's normal that he was called out for this after all those years, but I just wished it happened two little weeks later so that we could experience the two last Kai episodes with the intended soundtrack.
After decades of his mischievious actions slipping under the radar, we were just two little weeks away from having a complete Kai experience, and one track for Gohan's transformation has been lost forever the then-upcoming compilation of Kai never had time to be released.

He was lucky to be able to last that long, and we were unlucky that it didn't last for just two more weeks before he got what he had coming.

That being said, it also gives us an opportunity to have new interpretations of old games that we wouldn't have had otherwise (for example, a new soundtrack for Super Butoden 2, which would have never ever happened in other circumstances). The new replacement tracks are not necessarily always better, but they are an interesting way to rediscover games nonetheless.

Yeah, I definitely see where the instrumental comes in now.

Not Yamamoto, but I found that the beginning of Sumitomo's "Go Gohan!" sounds extremely close to Azure Lake from Sonic 3. When I first heard it last year, it sounded familiar, but I replayed Sonic 3 last year, and just listened to this song again, and it jumped out at me.

Now can we get Kikichi back plz Toei? :P
