I've often wondered how Dragon Ball as interpreted by Kohei Tanaka (G Gundam/One Piece composer) would sound.

I think Dragon Ball could meld well with Nobuo Uematsu. His music alone can really bring a sense of depth to the Dragon Ball universe. I think it would work better in original Dragon Ball because of the small beginnings but I'd still like to see it throughout the whole franchise nonetheless.

A bit of necropost, but it's still on the first page.

Picking from another composer that did a project with Akira Toriyama's artwork...Koichi Sugiyama of Dragon Quest would be pretty interesting.

Well looks like the guy above me took the words out of my mouth but still.
Either Koichi Sugiyama or they can give Norihito Sumitomo (The composer of Dragon Ball 2013 - Present) some more time and a better budget because he has the capabilities.

Examples:

Though Sugiyama is more of a classical composer, his works would still work with Dragon Ball because they have an atmospheric style to them. Also, his battle themes are pretty good too. Examples

Queen! And before you say anything, listen to Bohemian Rhapsody, Innuendo or Who wants to live forever and how beautiful they are, and unlike a certain composer, they actually know how to make GOOD synth rock.
Big Green: And you say you're the prince of the Space Warriors.
Vejituh: Oh Big Green, face reali-TY!

Yoshihisa Hirano who did the Hunter x Hunter (2011) Soundtrack. This is one of the most incredible soundtracks in anime and I daresay possibly the best anime soundtrack of all time. YES I SAID IT. It even eclipses Kikuchi's Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z scores at times. If Yoshihisa Hirano could replace Norihito Sumitomo that would be a dream come true.

I know there is also some speculation that Sumitomo is already out due to Naoki Sato filling the role for the new Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film. Naoki Sato's score was good solid in Super Hero. But I'm telling you that we could be doing so much better with Yoshihisa Hirano.

Someone that can perfectly emulate Kikuchi's style. Without that sound, Dragon Ball just doesn't sound like Dragon Ball to me.

Barring that, someone with a style that's just as unique. Making Dragon Ball sound like everything else out there detracts from its uniqueness and makes it feel more generic than it should (This is my main issue with Kai Yamamoto and Sumitomo); so for me, a composer that's not Kikuchi would have to bring something just as unique and fitting to the table for me to get on board.

I feel like Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail, Naruto, Pretty Cure, etc.) would be perfect for Dragon Ball's 'slice-of-life' episodes. Of course, I can see him doing some amazing action pieces too (what with him being the composer of Kai 2.0's "Let It Burn").
