Episode #0251! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Jeff dive into Volume 38 in our "Manga Review of Awesomeness". The gang is all here with a new set of villains, but is Toriyama truly writing by the seat of his pants, or is the magic still there (in more ways than one)? In the news, Kenji Yamamoto has lost his music composition job for "DragonBall Kai" after years of fans pointing out plagiarism, leaving the end of the series in even more shambles than before. You know, after you mentioned that the offending Kai tracks first aired around Trunks, I got thinking: maybe it only came to light now because those episodes only aired in the US recently? That seems like the first opportunity for someone involved with Avatar or the Terminator to notice, unless they were a hardcore enough Dragon Ball fan to watch Japanese streams.

His "Battle Point Unlimited" is extremely rare. 8)

"With Videl gone, everyone can push their speed up."......this saga so cold.

Pui Pui....is so tamed, Vegeta can forget those credits. Image

And Gohan is nerfed.

Great podcast, really.

Rats, there's one Viz-ism I forgot: in Viz Dabra says that he checked out the Earth 300 years ago. But originally he says that he "had the Earth checked out", implying that he didn't personally do the investigating. Accordingly, Daizenshuu 7's timeline says that an underling of Dabra came to the Earth around Age 474, rather than Dabra himself. To confuse things even more, old mistranslations of the D7 timeline simply talk of Dabra himself coming to Earth, so that's what you see in a lot of fan timelines even today.

I know, right? He's totally serious in that he doesn't know the specifics of what's coming next. I mean, he knows what "Mr. Buu" looks like and all, but I think there's some good stuff in there about what type of a writer Toriyama is, how someone like Jeff who's new to the franchise can somewhat pinpoint how the author is going to write this part, blah blah blah.

Ah, that's OK! We'll mention it at the beginning of next episode. Thanks, dude.

One thing I'd like to point out; you were talking about who died in this volume and only mentioned the random people that Vegeta killed. But you all forgot about Kibito, the poor guy!

Awesome podcast. It was one of the few bright spots of my work day lol

Wow...Overseas Version Soundtrack...That's as unprecedented as it is bullcrap
Would've loved to hear extended versions of the new versions in the game (Saikyou no Fusion needs one for the guitar solo :D )

With all this talk about music "homages", it reminded me of a couple that i've known for a while lol.
I don't think they're related to Kenji Yamamoto but someone please tell me i'm not the only one hearing "Heaven is a place on earth" in the chorus of Zard's "Kaeranu toki no naka de" and "Everybody dance now" during "Mai.My.Mainichi" from the Hit Song Collection 6?

Did Kibito do anything in the series? Besides provoke Gohan to go SSJ2, heal him afterward and then catch him and Videl up on what was going on?

Oh ya he healed Kaioshin too. But that's about it I think.

Great Episode, and good to hear Julian and his family are doing fine. Also nice to hear all four people of Manga Reviews of Awesomeness come together for, well, a Manga Review of Awesomeness.
