Yeah, it's neat seeing how different it is.

November 05, 2009: DP #150 airs.
November 10, 2009: Iwane Masa'aki posts about working on Diamond & Pearl Episode #170.
November 12, 2009: DP #151-152 airs, Iwane works on both.
April 01, 2010: Natsume Kunihiko-supervised Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl Episode #170 airs with action cuts by Iwane Masa'aki.

That's about twenty episodes of buffer.

In September 2010 someone sold genga (key animation drawings) from Best Wishes Episode #20 to a fan site. Best Wishes Episode #20 didn't air until 24 February 2011. Both were Studio Cockpit episodes that Iwane Masa'aki worked on, humorously enough.

Budget aside, I wish Toei would take that kind of care with DB considering it's probably it's biggest hit outside of Japan.

Toei Animation can't do that unless everyone agrees and pays attention. Shueisha should've paid more attention when they let Toei produce a new series on short notice during a busy time for the industry and the studio in general.

True, true. Getting a bunch of rights holders to agree is not an easy thing to do.

But doesn't OLM, inc have the same problems? One would think Nintendo has some kind of control.

And like Toei, OLM has many more anime they are working on righf now.

The number of animation supervisors and key animators being used has increased, but we know episodes are being dubbed in the United States before they even air in Japan. It looks like the partners have been able to come to the agreement to allow enough time to produce episodes before they air. We still get regular peaks ahead at new episodes months before they air, which would be virtually impossible with a Toei cartoon. It helps that Iwane Masa'aki can turn out an entire episode in a month in a half.
