If FUNimation were to re-cast for Kai Dub, who'd you pick?

Post by dbboxkaifan » Tue Mar 06, 2012 4:09 pm

Goku: TFS - MasakoX
Vegeta: Brian Drummond
Gohan: Colleen Clinkenbeard or TFS - MasakoX
Piccolo: Brandon Routh
Kuririn: TFS - Lanipator
Freeza: TFS - LittleKuriboh
Cell: Dameon Clarke
Kaio-sama: Don Brown

The others could stay the same.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Some yes, but Cell and Gohan would stay exactly the same for me.

Clarke's perfected Cell in Kai (imo) there is absolutely no reason to recast him, he did a magnificent job, but then the DBZ games have Travis.. ugh. :?

Trunks is now Orion Pitts.
Yamcha is now Eric Vale.

Vale's Trunks works less and less the more I hear it these days, and Chris Sabat doesn't need three major roles.

Some are copied from the other thread

Freeza - Malcolm McDowell
Kaio - Rene Auberjonois (Janos in Legacy of Kain)
Piccolo - Kevin Conroy (Batman)
Gohan - MasakoX (DBZ Abridged)

If limited to FUNi actors:

Goku: Todd Haberkorn
Vegeta: Travis Willingham
Gohan: Colleen Clinkenbeard
Piccolo: Troy Baker
Kuririn: Sonny Strait
Freeza: Chris Ayres (Chris Sabat would probably do a good job here too, but why fix what ain't broke?)
Cell: Dameon Clark
Kaio-sama: Maybe Chris Sabat (since in my hypothetical cast list, he's lost his bigger roles) or Doc Morgan
Muten Roshi: Bill Jenkins
Fat Buu: Barry Yandell
Yajirobe: Josh Grelle
Yamcha: Vic Mignogna
Oolong: Bill Townsley/Barry Yandell/Justin Cook/Chris Ayres/Someone who doesn't have a deep voice

If dubbed in LA:

Goku: Yuri Lowenthal
Vegeta: David Lodge
Gohan: Kate Higgins
Piccolo: Travis Willingham
Kuririn: Johnny Yong Bosch
Freeza: Liam O'Brien
Cell: Jamieson Price
Kaio-sama / Narrator: Richard Epcar
Muten Roshi: Steve Kramer
Yajirobe: Robbie Rist
Yamcha: Vic Mignogna
Oolong: Tom Gibis

"Those transformations insane,
They wanna turn up hours late and steal the show from the pros who had to die for the name." - Yamcha (DBWTF: Z-Rap 3)

"Over saturation is easy. Just drag the slider to the right and there you are: instant interest. And certainly, the majority of the public likes saturated color images. In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

You really like Team Fourstar I take it?

If Kai had gotten to the Buu saga, considering who did Little Trunks, a lot of guys could make in-jokes in relation to those two.

As much as I love TFS, I can't agree with your choices on Krillin, Frieza and Gohan. While they are good for the comic relief in Abridged, I don't see them working as believable performances in a serious dub, especially Kai of all things.

No offense to TFS though.

No offense taken. If we did a fandub, we'd shift the cast pretty heavily. Chris Ayres is also the perfect Freeza.

Interestingly, the Krillin in Blue Water GT sounds almost exactly like TFS Krillin.

Vic as Goku actually doesn't sound half-bad to be honest. Certainly would be interesting to hear if he did attempt it.

On another, really quite unrelated note, i also think Vic could do a pretty good version of Satoshi from Pocket Monsters!

... What? Satoshi is, like, 12. Vic sounds like he's 30. Sure, some of his teenage voices are... passable, but no way would he be a fit for a character like Satoshi.

Well, some of Vic`s voices do tend to go pretty high, like his Edward in FMA, and i think if he made a little higher, and more happy and hyper, it would fit pretty well for Satoshi. That, and I`m really sick of hearing the english dub voices for Satoshi, which again is because i grew up with this voice for Satoshi:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzD1odNUa-Mhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPVoUJ6BoO4
What? I like it!

Even worse than that, Satoshi is 10.... still.

Not to get too far off topic, but this could apply for the Dragon Ball/Z kids as well, I prefer to see young people play young characters.

Look how good Pixar's movies are with that.... also, Finn from Adventure Time.

I said this in the other thread, but I think Steve Blum could do an awesome Vegeta.

I really don't mind Sabat's voice, but I do agree that he does at times sound too similar to Piccolo.
