Hmm, I would speculate that Roshi sounds the way he does in the trailer because McFarland's Buggy the Clown voice is bleeding into his Roshi performance. The One Piece dub is finally hitting the Impel Down arc, so McFarland would've been recording some lines for that character recently, likely very close to whenever the lines for RF were recorded.

A sample of his Buggy voice:

McFarland never really sounded any better or worse to me. Then again, he doesn't exactly get much time to shine after Dragon Ball. :eh:

Once again, I'm not hearing what you guys are, Roshi sounds the same in the dub as he ever did.

He sounds deeper and more garbled in that trailer.

Where in the trailer? I'm not hearing either.

It's around the 0:50 mark in the Resurrection F trailer I linked in the previous page.

Yeah, it's absolutely no different than what he's done in the past.

Guess it's a matter of opinion-- I hear what gohann and AttitudeFan are on this one.

I don't know how. He's voiced him for over a decade and I've heard that voice a number of times, and you can't judge it based on one line in a single trailer. It doesn't even seem like you are comparing apples to oranges. Find scenes from DB and DBZ where McFarland was voicing Roshi in a similar situation and then compare.

I've heard him in person. He sounds really different now.

Maybe a little older, but his voice hasn't changed that much. His voice wasn't that different, if at all in Kai or Battle of Gods than it was in DB. There might be a slight change in pitch due to McFarland's age, but it's not so different that it's nearly what you guys claim, and what baffles me about this is that you all seem to take such a stance on this based on a single line in one trailer.

Plus, the character's has been in the spotlight for ages so whether it's different or not, I don't think it really matters.

I'll hear him in the dub with more lines, then, to be fair.

Is there any dub that you like?

Sure, Hebert as Ox King, Schemmel as Kaio, and Sabat as Reacoom. For the most part, I'm VERY happy with how the Kai dub turned out. The voices fit, the actors knew their characters and have experience, and the script is what I hoped it would be.

You're not saying anything here. Why do you think this? Can you provide examples?

I'll keep that in mind.

Recoome
Why I think: its too moronic to take seriously and he doesn't sound like a real person but a mockery of an stereotpical "moron".
Example: every scene when he's taunting people

Kaio
Why i think: WAY too screechy and the acting is terrible.
Example: when he's yelling at people.

Ox King
Why I think: acting is terrible and the voice doesnt fit.
Example: every scene.
