Kai got higher ratings than Super. Huh. Pretty decent debut for Tokyo Ghoul.

It's nice to see Kai doing so well cause it puts an end to the whole "no one cares about Kai" that was going around.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Exactly. Kai beating Super is no accident. They even put a buffer in between to two shows that made ratings drop and people still literally came back just for Kai. You can't solely attribute that to Super leading, especially when more people come back at a later time.

Anyway, this may be anecdotal but after watching the first few episodes of Kai, I couldn't wait week to week anymore so I ended up subscribing to funimation just to watch it lol. I've dropped the Super dub and may pick it up again during the slice of life and RoF arc.

Sand Whale and Me is a 25 minute, 5-part micro-series from legendary director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor) and Japanese animation studio, Production I.G. The series is a hybrid of live action and CG animation.

I know its not really important but could you tell us the ratings for Rick And Morty? Because this low ratings may be explained if they were lowered by Rick and Morty.

This forum is so over-dramatic that it's not even funny.

Wow then it was pretty excessive they should have at least stopped before 11 and let Toonami continue as normal and now we're stuck with Buu Kai being ahead of Super broadcast wise which is the last thing we need when Buu Kai is gonna be ahead anyway this month via the BDs.

Or maybe Toonami could have shifted the block an hour and had Jack start at 12, sacrificing the last hour of the block. GitS is a repeat anyway and doesn't look like much people care for Shippuden for it to miss a week.

I'm more surprised by how poorly Naruto has been doing. It's been decreasing week after week after being pushed to 2:30am which means it'll likely be the next show to get kicked off the block

From what I hear Shipuuden is a pretty bad adaptation & from what I hear the show is near like 50% filler, One Piece which is almost 300 episodes longer only has a fraction amount of filler which is pretty surprising when I found out!

Shippuden and One Piece take different approaches to making sure they don't catch up with their manga counterparts. Shippuden takes the traditional approach, with filler arcs between the canon ones (or during) and random one-shots sprinkled into the canon. One Piece, on the other hand, takes the DBZ approach where, while it may have a filler arc once in a very long while, the canon material is stretched out to roughly 1 episode = 1 chapter via padding (extended reactions/stare-downs, long recaps, filler scenes, etc). So while One Piece has far less filler episodes, its filler is interwoven with the canon scenes. In theory this is a good idea, but in practice it makes watching One Piece at a once a week pace incredibly painful because it can sometimes take weeks for anything to actually happen, which may be part of why Toonami viewers lost interest in it.

I think the real issue with Shippuden here is that these episodes have been available dubbed for over 4 years now. Pretty much anyone who wanted to see this part of the series in English has had since a year before Shippuden even got on Toonami to watch the episodes. If Toonami wants to stay relevant, they need to air world premiere dubs, which they do currently have with Super, Kai (until the sets come out), Attack on Titan Season 2, and Hunter x Hunter (and will eventually have with Iron Blooded Orphans Season 2 and Stardust Crusaders). Shippuden, by comparison, is week old bread with a bit of mold on it.
I also go by "veemonjosh".
