If dbs was broadcasted later and had few changes such as add moments with blood and remove all the modern jokes, the series could do much better.
Another thing is that the fans that actually care for the show are grown up people with jobs. Nobody would wake up at 9 on Sunday to watch a show that they can stream later.

DBZ marketing is doing it right. It's focusing on the same Demographic Dragonball has always focused on. As a result the old fans are still satisfied and the franchised is introduced to a whole new generation

Toei cares to make the next wave of young db fans so they market it towards children but make tons of references....which a new fan won't understand.

Funimation's approach seems way better. I hope the rewrites can save some of the more childish jokes

Edit: Nevermind I found them, and they were not what I was expecting. There isn't really a lot of action right now for both shows, so maybe when it gets to that the ratings will spike a little.

Dragon Ball Z Kai and Super usually does at the very least 1 million viewers. This week Kai and Super lost hundreds of thousands of viewers and it's explicitly known why.
