DBZ Kai Part 3 & Part 4 Set

Post by koth07 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 4:26 pm

Here recently I bought a DVD with the cover of DBZ Kai Part 4, but it has Part 3 as well along with the Yamamoto Score. I was just wondering if it is an official release. I looked on the home release items, and I could not find anything about it.

Could you retry the image link you provided?

One thing to check is who is credited for the music on the back of the box. If it says Kikuche, it's probably a knock-off, or it could be a flat-out printing error.

https://imgur.com/gallery/lAX5U It states that Kenji Yamamoto is credited for music. I have already seen one episode from one of the 4 disc which I can confirm that it is the Yamamoto Score.

I believe those are Walmart exclusives. They also had a parts 1 & 2 combo pact.

Thanks for the info I did not see any information on the website. I guess this was before the season sets then. I hope to at least have all the Blu Ray Editions of Z Kai so far I have 1/11 I look on amazon everyday where prices go from $40 to $135 maybe a little more.

If you plan on getting Kai Blu-rays with whatever music then that'll do for you, but if you want the Yamamoto score on Parts 1-4 then you need to be careful and ask the seller if the music on it sounds "new" or "old". I know that Part 4 was reprinted with the Kikuchi score but not entirely sure about Parts 1-3.. possibly.

Yeah I’ve mostly looked for a year based on my experience anything that is 2009 to 2010 is Yamamoto, but I feel like it is not a good thing to go off of.

So far I’ve just been going by the year, but I feel like that is not a good thing to go off of. So far I have paid at the most $40 for the Blu Ray copy of Part 1. If I am correct everything from 2009-2010 should have the Yamamoto Score. It would be nice to have the Yamamoto Score, but I will settle for Kuikuchi Score even if the Yamamoto Score fits the feeling of a revived series.

I would highly recommend you try to get the Kai Yamamoto Blu-rays for episodes 01-52 at the very least but if you watch it all with the Kikuchi music I suppose you'll be fine. My transition from Yamamoto to Kikuchi was terrible as it never sounded right and the tunes were always randomly picked and repetitively used. I'm a Kikuchi fan but I can't stand how badly they butchered his music in Kai.

The Australian Kai Collection (= Part) sets all feature the Yamamoto score until episode 52 (Collection 4) but you're better off just asking the seller than import. Since I mentioned the Australian sets, the UK Kai Season Sets (based on the AU sets) also feature the Yamamoto score for Seasons 1 and 2 but Season 2's final episode with the Yamamoto soundtrack is the 39th episode. And then there's the Japanese Kai Blu-rays, the first print contained Yamamoto's score on episodes 01-76 with the rest being the Kikuchi score on 77-98. There was a reprint with all the Japanese Blu-rays (and DVDs, I think) having only Kikuchi's music (01-98).

Episodes 96-98 "originally" featured the Kikuchi score so it's nowhere near as bad as episodes 01-95 are.

Is it funimation just localized differently or is the UK a different dub?

FUNimation dub.

The Ocean Dub Kai is coming but it apparently won't ever have a home release, sadly.

Yeah the Kuikuchi Score does not have that grand feeling that the Yamamoto Score has. Like I said before Kai is refreshed version of Z, and the Yamamoto Score excels in that sense of a refreshed series.

The Ocean Dub Kai will have its own score so at least in the music department it'll dodge the nightmare of Kai's Yamamoto X Kikuchi thing. I'm so excited to watch it, I've been waiting since, like.. 2011 or something. :P

Yeah I wish The Final Chapters had a better score its okay, but some of the music sounds similar to the Battle of Gods Soundtrack I know they are both done by Sumitomo, but it does not live up to the Yamamoto Score or the Kuikuchi Score.

*Sorry if I am misspelling Kuikuchi

The Final Chapters was just an afterthought that TOEI had since it hadn't originally been planned after the original run of Kai. The remastering of TFC shows so and the score was composed by Sumitomo, Sumitomo's Dragon Ball music in my opinion is just so average that I dunno why TOEI hired him over Takaki. Maybe Sumitomo was cheaper.

Kai 2.0 (aka TFC) had two releases, the Japanese and the International - The only real differences is that the Japanese version was slightly shorter, Super Boo had red eyes and exclusive OP/ED songs, I think. But the score in itself was the same.

I think they have a different recap and preview theme for each release. I prefer Kuu Zen Zetsu Go over Fight It Out, but that is my opinion.

Whatever score you want on your Kai sets is entirely up to you. I personally have no problem with the Kikuchi score and happily paid for the seaaon sets, but if you prefer Yamamoto by all means go for it but be sure to ask the seller if they have it. I've not heard of Funi's parts 1-3, Madman's parts 1-4 or MangaUK's sets being replaced entirely with Kikuchi but its certainly possible.

If the Ocean Dub of Kai comes out later this year it will definitely be worth a watch to see how its replacement score holds up, but if it does buy the Kai sets you want before downloading the Ocean dub to still be supporting the show.
