Yea, the chapter was great, the only thing that sucks is that Krillin didn't do anything, but I won't complain that much about that. Frost was the MVP.

Oh my god, Krillin and Tenshinhan literally got knocked out without even doing anything. I wanted to see them do more in the anime, but here in the manga they served no purpose other than to tire out Frost.

I do like what they did with Frost and Freeza though. Freeza's doing waaay more in the early parts of the tournament compared to the anime. I also really like the way Freeza betrays Frost here.

Gohan and Piccolo got a lot of neat action, which was great to see.

Decent chapter overall. I get the feeling a lot of people will be pissed because of what happened to Krillin and Tenshinhan.

picc wrote:Just read the english translation of chapter 34, and it was freaking awesome. No idea what people are talking about when they say the battle royale element is not there, it felt like a CLASSIC battle royale. Lots of different fights at once, people interrupting each others fights. Nonstop action, which was the most important part.

Curious how strong the trio de dangers are. Piccolo alone easily defeated Bergamo, while the other two brothers together were enough to keep Gohan purely on defense. At least in the short time they fought.

Rozel actually seemed to be the strongest member of U9, as he actually had Piccolo all but helpless solo.
I really wouldn't say Rozel did anything that impressive, considering how easily Rozel was invitably disposed of. To me, it seemed that the Trio's main strength lay in there ability to compensate for each others weaknesses, and confuse and outmanuever stronger opponents in their little wolf pack. Alone, none of them seemed particularly impressive alone though, with Piccolo laying out Bergamo fairly easily.

For me, it seemed that either Hyssop or Comfrey were the strongest members of universe 9, with Hyssop being shown to be formidable physical fight with him overpowering Piccolo, and being the only warrior from universe 9 to land an sort of counter-attack on Frost.

Comfrey for me definitely did the best powerwise of the group, with him managing to overpower a full strength Frost in a physcial contest for a moment, something that Hyssop tried and failed to do.

About the chapter, liked the teamwork element in the manga, it genuinely feels far more organic than the animes thus far, though I will comment on the transitions this chapter being a little lacking in comparison to last, and also Toyotaro's seeming inability to give a sense of size and scale to the ring.

Overall decent chapter, Frost may have been really cool, but I think Freeza was the real star here and I already like his use in this tournament more than the animes.

Good chapter,I hope toyotaro keeps it up and the latter fights are an improvement.
Something I noticed in anime,U9 had undetectable ki while in manga they did not used ki blasts.

Unrelated to chapter,I am sad at piccolo. He seems to be below ssj gohan.Still pisses me off that namekian book of legends has legends of saiyans not namekians.I will keep slight hope about that, but for now I at least hope that namekians are stronger and motivate him to get stronger.

Good chapter, but Krillin's elimination was just so bad. I know Krillin is a weak character, one of the weakest members of the team, but that doesn't mean he had to be treated like a nobody who was never an important character. Why didn't Toyotaro draw 17 and most importantly 18 reacting to Krillin's elimination? The anime had Krillin save her wife from getting eliminated, teamed up with her to take down an opponent and eliminated a fighter that was seemingly stronger than he was. At least Tien was able to perform an attack, even if it did nothing and was eliminated just some pages after Krillin.

I really liked the Frost, Piccolo and Gohan vs Universe 9 fights though. The Universe 9 fighters (not counting the trio de dangers) also had more screentime in here than they did in the anime. I mean, that bat guy almost eliminated Piccolo, and the bunny girl wasn't eliminated off-screen this time. It was good. I also liked how Piccolo hesitated on eliminating Bergamo.

Overall, decent chapter. 7/10

People don't seem to realize that by knocking out established chsracters early, it means that no one is safe and showcases just how brutal this battle Royale is.

If that were impartially taken to its most logical extremity then Goku, Vegeta, Freeza, and #17 would all be vulnerable to getting escorted up to the chopping block at any random time. In one chapter we'd see Vegeta's overconfidence bite him in the backside as he's incapacitated by one of the stronger tier fighters of the tournament before he can react. He'd be out before he knew what happened. Goku would receive seconds from Toppo and get thrown out in the subsequent chapter with little capacity to do anything about it.

Does that happen, though? Of course not. Some characters are exempt from this alleged "anyone can die" trope. If Toriyama had the authorial fortitude to force some of these characters out of bounds early on due to a character mishap then I would personally be impressed and admit to him having more courage than initially thought. It's not bound to happen, however.

So,for context the person asked to treat tenshinhan better and toyotaro liked his treat.Like master, like student.

I think you should be careful what you ask for.At least,we know he reads the tweets.

Making 'regular' humans be the weak link was a good idea in my book. If only Krillin had a little to do though. My main complaint would be that none of the other contestants have shown any of their special abilities, and they're already dropping out!

Knocking out humans early has no impact whatsoever at this point of the franchise; (same for Piccolo, I hate to admit).

Chapter was cool, Freeza and Frost were the stars by getting rid of U9.

The negatives were obviously how Krillin and Tien ended up with worse treatment than in the anime, they shouldve had them do something worthy(like supporting Piccolo idk) before going out early.

The biggest positive is that this actually feels like a battle royal.

Obviously I'm saying that within context of the fact that Super is the Goku and Vegeta show; yes, of course I don't expect Goku or Freeza to get it so early. A red-shirt like Krillin, sure. But it's the way it happens that I liked: there's no speech, no bad-ass fight, just quickly and efficiently taken out. Considering that there were also other characters getting quickly knocked out, it serves to show just how ruthless and brutal some of the participants are.

As opposed to the anime in which Kuririn does fuck-all for several episodes, until he gets his "moment to shine"--and then gets knocked out.

The screenshoot speaks for itself. That reminds toriyama only made goku lose the 21 and 22 world tournament because people expected goku to win.

Good chapter , freeza showing piccolo the real meaning of the tournament , u7 weak fighters going out when a stronger guy attacks them make us feel that this is not a Joke .
Time is running , it’s imposible to show all the fights but Toyo did it well , like that transfer panel with piccolos fight to tensinhan fight . Good royal battle choreography overall
8/10

So Tien and Roshi (yes, Roshi) managed to at least block some of Frost's punches? But Krilin...did nothing (sure, he was caught by surprise but still..)?

Whoa, Toyotaro/Toriyama/TOEI are really trying to establish Krilin as the least useful fighter of U7 team uh? At least the manga has Tien trying (and failing) to inflict any damage on Frost.

Also, while I understand that he was outnumbered, I'm still having a hard time believing that Piccolo was losing to that fodder vampire man. At least he managed to defeat one of the Trio de Dangers 1vs1 (who seem to be weaker than their anime counterparts since Gohan at some point managed to take on the 3 of them in the manga).

Here is my take on it.

Loved that the bottom three were so outclassed.
These are some of the most powerful beings in the Multiverse and they weren't even the most powerful beings on their planet.

Krillin getting taken out so easily is unfortunate, but he was definitely caught off guard. I also find it interesting that the fighters that ran off didn't even notice their other members got eliminated which really shows the consequences of them running off like that.

Tien did great imo. He gave it all he had and it wasn't enough but he stood his ground against Frost who is easily Frieza level or greater and enough to get others concerned.
Roshi still did better than I think he should have but he really just blocked some attacks from a conservative Frost. Still it was dumb to even have that imo.
Speaking of Roshi, he really annoyed me by acting like he didn't need Goku's help and could handle himself against Frost.
Frost effectively wiped out an entire universe worth of fighters on his own... come on Roshi..

Speaking of Frost, man he was a beast. He was wrecking so many fighters he made Goku pause and the Trios run off.
This also brings me to Frieza, I hate Frieza and he is my least favorite character in the series, but man did they play him up the way he should be written.

1) Frieza is an obviously seasoned fighter. A far cry from when he seemed to be a perpetual spoiled brat. He planned, manipulated, and gave some good solid advice multiple times.
He told Gohan not to thank him because if they survived he was going to kill the saiyans anyway.
He told the Trios that jumping will next to an edge is foolish.
He told Piccolo not to hesitate because this is about survival.
He used his own weakest players as pawns to so that he could have Frost eliminate a universe for him.

I like this rendition of Frieza because he stays a villian throughout. I'm not a fan of "good guy" Frieza...

Back to the other content. Bergamo begging to find a way for all the universes to survive and Piccolo hesitating was a nice touch.
I expect more of that in the story. However I think the actual erasure fell flat and was far more effective in the anime.

Overall, I'm seeing what I'm expecting from a battle royal. With one on one fights being something that rarely happens.

It's neat that we are seeing 7 vs 1 and all kinds of battle configurations that seem to change pretty fluidly rather than being some kind of setup showdown.

Peaking my head in this thread again, because I've seen some interesting discussion come from this chapter, specifically Piccolo's moment of hesitation.

Are people really surprised that he'd be reluctant to deal the finishing blow that would erase an entire universe? Especially if someone would start begging to be saved. He's hard-boiled, but not heartless. And either way, Kami must've softened him up quite a bit, too. It's not OOC is what I saying here. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Vegeta in a similar situation.

Read Chapter 34 and I have some random notes:

- Krillin being eliminated from sneak attack after doing nothing infuriates me. At least when he got taken out by a sneak attack in anime he contributed something.
- Damn you Toyotaro for teasing Dr Rota's abilities and not doing anything with them. And him being eliminated off-panel does nothing for me given we have no idea who did it.
- Tenshinhan getting jobbed out as hard as he did against Frost upset me so much. Only one Kikoho against Frost, which he no sells, and then he's eliminated with one punch. This is waaaaaayyyy worse than how he got treated in the anime, and that is REALLY saying something.
- Gohan's battle with the Trio De Danger suffers from the same issue that anime had at times with fake tension. Gohan, if you know that your base form isn't enough to beat these guys, transform into a SSJ!
- Freeza is an idiot. He gains nothing from having some of his teammates getting eliminated. It just further decreases his chances of being brought back to life if there are less people to back him up. Freeza could have fought Krillin and Tien or Freeza could have had Frost fight other characters, and it would have served the same purpose of the Freeza/Frost team up. Hell, that's what happened with Frost anhamilting Universe 9 single-handedly. So there was no point to Krillin and Tenshinhan getting eliminated like they did.
- Frost was the best thing about the chapter, with how he battered 90% Universe 9, but his elimination, as well as the payoff from him and Freeza teaming up, was so abrupt that I had no reaction to it. I also have the horrible feeling that Frost's performance is the best any universe that isn't Universe 7 is going to get in the manga.
- Nice to see Rozel fighting and being more useful in combat rather than pissing his pants in fear against Freeza and eliminating himself by accident.
- Piccolo and Gohan should have been the ones to take care of Universe 9, especially considering Gohan and Piccolo initially began the fight with Universe 9. And even more especially considering Frost steamrolling Universe 9 had such an unsatisfactory payoff. They kinda got shafted.
- Lavender and Basil getting eliminated they way they did by Freeza was pretty smart.
- Why is Piccolo hesitating to eliminate Bergamo? For a pragmatic and no-nonsense character like him, that was such a weird thing for him to do given how someone could have come up from behind Piccolo and eliminated him for that hesitation.
- Overall, I very much preferred Goku and Vegeta taking care of Universe 9 in the anime, then how Universe 9 were handled in the manga because in the anime it at least contiunted and concluded the subplot of the grudge Universe 9 had against Universe 7.
- I don't give a shit how much more like a battle royal it feel like in the manga. It matters so much more with how you utilize that concept to make the most of the cast and for you to give ultimately care about the fate about of those who get eliminated. I didn't care for Universe 9 in the manga anywhere the same amount I cared for them in the anime, as a result, I don't give a shit that their erased. And if I don't care that literal universes are being erased, there's going to be a big emotional disconnect that was significantly hampers how much I'm invested in the story.

Overall, a disappointing chapter with several characters being unnecessarily wasted.
