Goku fighting seven fighters on his own is something that didn't even happen in the anime.
Also, why do I get the feeling that Toriyama specified how many fighters Universe 7 would eliminate?

From what I've heard and seen I'm liking how the manga version of the TOP is playing out so far. Only thing I'm not to keen on is Goku vs the pride troopers. Not that I don't like me some 1 vs many fights, just I'll be a bit annoyed if they all get taken out by Goku. Not going to say that their treatment in the anime was any better but atleast it had some other characters fighting them. And if they do all get taken out by Goku I just gotta wonder why Toppo and Dyspo and just sitting around. It was bad enough that they pulled that stunt in the anime version so it'll annoy me if they do it again here.

Power levels are not just big numbers:

Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

Wow I'm surprised to see him fighting right off the bat but I'm glad that he's not just gonna stand around and do nothing until the half way point like in the anime. Liking how the manga is handling the start of the tournament more so than the anime, hopefully it doesn't fall apart.

Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

That's awesome! I hope the top 3 Pride Troopers are more active in the manga. Something I hated about the anime was how it felt like there were so many background filler battles that show two characters exchanging blows and end without an elimination or conclusion. If we cut those out, I think it wouldve really helped with the pacing in the anime.
