Later down the line, perhaps. I don't really want to do any more comparisons until we're a good way into the series. I want to see how much the rotation changes for these animators as well.

Judging by those, Masahiro Shimanuki is my favourite by far.

Kitano or ishikawa seems to be my favorite

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Re: Animation Comparisons - (Eps 1 - 23) [Update 4]

Updated the main post with #23.

Tonight's episode was led by Osamu Ishikawa. He was previously in charge of Episode 2, 10, and 17. I theorised last week that they'd be prioritising the first half of the episode, and I was definitely correct. There a huge dip in quality after the eyecatch, so I've made sure to label all caps from the second half to make the difference obvious.
Animation Supervisor
Osamu Ishikawa, Yui Kinoshita

Key Animators
Ishikawa Osamu Tate Naoki Mura Shuntaro Higaki Ken'ichi Horii Nobuo

I posted my thoughts on the episode itself in the thread, so I'll stick to the animation alone in here. Once again, the return of One Piece's influence is apparent, especially during Gohan's power-up:
I was really impressed with the storyboarding, however. It continues to be significantly more interesting than anything we saw in the film version of this arc. It definitely makes pointing out Yamamuro's stale compositions a lot easier. Here's some of my favourites from tonight:
Next week is supposedly Kitano, but the previous shares a lot of similarities with Shimanuki's work, so I'm a little confused there. I guess we'll see. It doesn't look particularly interesting, and if it is Kitano, he's not exactly had much time since his last episode to work on this one. I'm not expecting much.

That's called perspective. Legs look like that when the view is close to the ground.

Iseki's line is just great, I find it most perfect and suiting for DBZ sequel.

Art looked really childish this episode. Seems like it's that One Piece influence.

I don't know, everyone just looked really young somehow. Y'know... like children.

What's wrong with that? People like young characters.

Didn't say there was something necessarily young with that. Just thought it looked more like One Piece than Dragon Ball.

'Young' isn't owned by One Piece. Youthful characters have been popular since Tezuka's reign.

Jacob, do you have to attempt to be contradictory to every criticism posted about the animation here? Anybody can see that Gohan skinny as fuck with 12 foot arms looks stupid as shit.

I didn't think I'd be the only one to spot that awful looking shot

It's almost as bad as some of Goku deep faces from episode 5. How someone can draw that and not think "well hold on, this looks like complete shit, let's not put in the show for millions to see" I'll never know.

I actually thought that last image looked a lot more like Ebisawa's Goku than Maeda's. The huge, bizarre looking ears and misshapen eyes really threw me back.
The shot that reminded me the most of Maeda was the glare we got from Goku towards the end of the first half of the episode. In particular, the face shape and nose stood out the most to me.
Funnily enough, there were even moments that gave me flashbacks to Uchiyama!
I swear, that episode was like a history lesson in Dragon Ball animation... Just with One Piece designs thrown in for the hell of it.

Given 'young' has been a part of the industry for decades and that knowledge appears to be lacking here, it seems I do.

All he said was they looked young and they looked more like One Piece than Dragon Ball. What does the fact that young characters have been around for much longer than One Piece have to do with anything that he said?

Nothing, nothing at all.

While we are at it, what its need to do to get rid of the stupid new character designs?! A new director would do, or it depends from the staff working in that episode?
In some episodes I noticed vegeta more buffed than others, but Gohan (for example) was always being anorectic since Super began. I don't see any difference.

Its ridiculous, when you see that he was well drawn in BOG Movie:

What happened?! Since ROF Movie, he started to look anorectic and the only thing I'm aware that changed, is that was when Yamamuro became the director...
A world without Dragon Ball is just meh.
