'Minister' and 'Priest' mean the same thing, it's highly likely it was just a lip-flap thing. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Ultra Instinct gets changed as well, since it'll be hard to get "Ul-tra-In-stinct" out of "Mi-gat-te-no-Go-ku-i." Big difference in syllables. We have heard them say "Ultra instinct" in the Xenoverse 2 DLC dub, but that's a different kettle of fish.

Also, I wish they'd just bite the bullet and have characters start using "Son Goku" in regular conversations. It was very noticeable in the scene with Zeno having him say things like "Saiyan Goku" or "Funny Goku," which defeated the point of them giving each other nicknames. "Zenny" is fine, we all expected that. The whole scene could have almost been re-written given how little "Zen-chan" comes up later on.

Uh oh. What’s going on with it? Too many liberties taken? I haven’t watched much of it yet.
Bingo. Too many liberties.
It's pretty similar to Kai TFC tbh.

Realistically, Kai: TFC didn't have a lot of liberties taken with the original scripts tbh. Even in the few scenes that would've allowed them to get away with it, they didn't. Maybe some of the acting did in places, but the scripts were fairly on-point. The only place I can think that actually took liberties was TFS' version of the Cell Games Reenactment, where they clearly rewrote the original script to feature as many jokes & 4th wall breaks as they did & your enjoyment of that scene hinged on how much you like those kinds of jokes & TFS. But, with the replacement with the original dub's version of that scene when they had to replace their recordings, it wasn't off back in ZZ, so it was ok in Kai's dub.
Super only really takes liberties when it comes to moments where they don't matter & the scene's script is otherwise on-point. They're more few & far between than I think some people give credit for, but I don't think it's as bad as the old days.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

Come to think of it, maybe they chose "minister" to lessen the religious connection. Over in Africa the edited version of the dub is airing with some lines being toned down (no cursing, softening references to death and sexual situations; take a look at some of the clips Toonami Africa uploaded here). The clips indicate that the edited dub has at the very least gotten to the Champa arc, so it stands to reason that they've been consistently recording edited versions of the lines.

With that in mind, calling the Grand Priest "Grand Minister" serves as a clever middle ground since "minister" can mean the same thing as "priest" but can also be interpreted like "Prime Minister," implying a more administrative role than explicitly religious. While I'm sure they could've gotten away with "Grand Priest" in the edited dub, I can see them taking measures to cover themselves as well, and this way they don't have to do as many alternate takes. This is just my speculation, of course, and lip flaps is probably the real answer.

As for the Ultra Instinct issue, they could mitigate that by sometimes referring to it as "The Art of Ultra Instinct," kinda expanding the term a bit where needed. Dunno if they would do something like that, but it's an idea.

This reminds me. Is there anybody capping the edited run on Toonami Africa?

Not as far as I know. Episode 1 exists on the Facebook livestream archive of the premiere they did (I think I shared it a few pages back), but the only other clips of it are the ones on the Toonami Africa site.

Well, this is it. The debut of Rosé. Will Sean impress us all, or will people drop the Super dub? Let's find out right now! On Toonami. [adult swim]

A rose by any other name...is still Goku.
And it is GOOD! He straddles the line, but the British doesn't overwhelm the American, thank the GODS!

Edit: Or...maybe it does...a bit...
It depends on the line, but it's there more than I expected.

Yeah, the British accent is hardly there, it's more of just a smug, posh tone.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's there, but it's nowhere near as strong as FigtherZ. It's about what I expected. It's there, but it doesn't completely overtake Goku's voices. It's very similar to TFS version of Black that everyone praised, ironically.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Which is weird because MasakoX is British, but doesn't sound British for Goku Black.

You...you really don't get the nuance, characterization, logic, or anything else for this character, do you?

The closest thing MasakoX did for Goku Black was when Ginyu took over Goku's body. Funny how TFS can see into the future.

Dude What are you talking about? I get it the whole thing. I'm just saying ever since it was announced that Black was going to have the accent. People I've seen were going nuts about it. Hearing it now I'm flabbergasted about how much backlash this was getting
