Favorite characters?

I gave up on Gohan too. I you asked me 12 years ago who my favourite character was, I probably would have said Gohan. But after re-watching DBZ later down the years, I realised there really wasn't much to actually invest into him as a character beyond his "trademark" rage boosts and unlocked potential gimmick. And I started to gradually care for him less and less. It eventually got to the point when after watching GT, I didn't really care that much he barely did anything there. Now at this stage, if Gohan does something integral to the plot, I'm fine with it. And if he doesn't, I'm fine with it. Either way, I don't give a shit.

I get the feeling Toei might want to do something with him, they're the one's who keep giving him scenes here and there. Toriyama's the one who probably has nothing for him to do, really. Just look at the Super manga, its been about 10 chapters since he appeared and almost as much since anyone's even mentioned Gohan in conversation.
Since Super is a toy commercial, I don't doubt Toei would give Gohan SSBlue just for the sake of more merchandise. Hell, I'd bet my right arm they'd go full Dragon Ball Heroes with it and introduce as much shit as humanly possible to drive sales if they had full story control.

Oh, there's no doubt in my mind Gohan will become a SSJB. It's too big of a money spinner to pass up on. I just worry how it's gonna happen, given Vegeta became a SSJB in the most bullshit circumstances ever, and we still don't have an idea of what Future Trunks new form is beyond it being based around rage boosting his strength, ala Gohan. If they go down either of those routes with SSJB Gohan, I will treat that moment with so much apathy.

I really don't know what you're expecting Oolong to do at this stage. Hell, he became a background character almost instantly after his debut.

Oh, I don't. I just find him an entertaining character and like his cynical personality. I just wish he was a part of more gags in Z and Super.

Since this is in the Super section, I'll list my favorite characters from Super specifically. Yamcha would be on this list if he wasn't relegated to even an in-universe joke in the show.

I really love Vados, both personality-wise and design-wise and I wish she had Whis' role since it seems that we'll be seeing more of him (although he's a cool character himself). Her voice is a plus for me... and coincidentally, Nico Robin happens to be my favorite One Piece character so it's really nice hearing her in Dragon Ball.

Beerus is cool both design-wise and I'd like to know more about him. (I don't really like the fact that he gave Freeza the authorization to destroy Planet Vegeta though... and I wish Freeza was a character who never actually knew about him because it makes me question a whole lot of things about the original run.

Zamasu was a pretty cool villian to see in action (despite me not really liking where the arc actually ends up).

Son Goku would have been higher had I not felt he was far more flanderized and generally way too upbeat in this show. Even in the original japanese version, he could be pretty serious and I just don't see as much of that here in Super. It just feels like he's regressed even more.

While I'm not too big of a fan of him in DBZ (apart from the Saiyan and Freeza arcs), the Vegeta in Super is at least moderately likeable to me. He was still in my Top 10 of favorite characters in the original manga but that's because he was so cool in the two initial arcs he appeared in. This is going from my #1 spot because Vegeta used to be my favorite character as a kid but I found myself really disliking him when I re-watched the series in my adult years. (I dislike him in the Cell and Buu arcs specifically).

That being said, I enjoy him enough in Super (and I'm okay with him still being somewhat of a jobber) (pls don't kill me).

And those are my favorite in DBS, although they may change once I catch up and see the Tournament of Power arc and some of the new characters introduced in those.
