Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
Do you guys think that Super airing live from Japan at the same time as dubbed will affect the toonami ratings. I know a lot of people on Twitter who watch live stream of Super, especially big YouTubers.Taking about 8pm slot of course.

Thats an old quote so an example for these numbers would be as follows.TIME - The time the program will be shown
PROGRAM - Well, that's pretty self explanatory
Viewers (000) - The total numbers of households who watched the show
A1849 rating - The ratings the show did with the adult demographic of 18-49
A1849 (000) - The number of households the show retained that have a viewer demographic of 18-49
For example, Dragon Ball Super at 11:30 was watched in 1,233,000 households. Of those households, 765,000 of them were in the demographic of 18-49, which is also represented in the rating 0.60.
For example, Dragon Ball Super at 11:30 was watched in 1,054,000 households. Of those households, 666,000 of them were in the demographic of 18-49, which is also represented in the rating 0.52.

Wow, Naruto has been decreasing these past few weeks even last week when even Sand Whale and Me was higher than usual. I guess it'll be the next sacrificial lamb for Toonami. That's pretty much proof that the 2:30am slot is shit. Super keeps doing well and will continue to do even better when Samurai Jack ends and it gets into the U6 arc. I feel like that 8pm rerun slot may go away soon in order to give the 11:30pm showing more viewers

That's what I'm thinking. When its under-performing reruns of Rick & Morty for likely several times the licensing fee, they may feel its better served to just put a rerun of family guy in that slot instead.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Wow, Naruto has been decreasing these past few weeks even last week when even Sand Whale and Me was higher than usual. Buu Kai beat out 11:30 Super, that with a 5 minute buffer that dipped the ratings and a later time slot. Thats NOT good, Super is trending down and Kai is trending up.

Its still doing a million viewers so its not doing badly by any stretch of the imagination, but it'll only get better ratings from here on out and I'm pretty sure they'll try to get rid of the 8pm slot because even when the Kai reruns had the 8pm slot, it still didn't last foreverTheMikado wrote:That's what I'm thinking. Re: Dragon Ball Super USA Adult Swim and Toonami Ratings
Its not about doing badly, We have a near direct comparison between an old and new show of the same franchise at back to back time slots on the same channel. The control for variables doesn't get much tighter than that.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Its still doing a million viewers so its not doing badly by any stretch of the imagination, but it'll only get better ratings from here on out and I'm pretty sure they'll try to get rid of the 8pm slot because even when the Kai reruns had the 8pm slot, it still didn't last foreverTheMikado wrote:That's what I'm thinking. Super started off higher than Buu Kai as expected. It is a new series, positioned in the prime time slot to start the Toonami run. Its the lead in. It HAD, the higher ratings, its in the main section of the BoG arc while the Kai is still technically in the prestages of its main arc. The positions have switched and now Buu kai has surpassed Super. We can even further see that Buu kai is not surviving entirely from Super being the lead in, because we have a ratings buffer which further isolates and allows us to review each show for independent control factors.
The point is, compared to its peers around similar time slots, other programming is doing better and Super's rating have fallen, not risen as time has gone on.
The could replace 8PM Super with a rerun of family guy (Likely at a fraction of the licensing fee) and get higher ratings and more advertising revenue, making their overall profit larger.
On the flip side, that could drive higher ratings to the 11:30 show and increase their advertising revenue there, who knows. We also don't know the cost of having the shows, I would imagine buu kais license would be substantially less as it is technically a show that first aired 25 years ago vs Super being the newest DB show franchise. If the trend continues it would be feasible that Toonami/adult swim could actually be making more money from Buu kai than DB Super, which is point, its not about it "not" doing badly. Its about is it doing as well as projected or expected? This has been the only weekend that Kai surpassed Super, but if its a trend in the future it would suggest the fanbase prefers the older products to the modernized version of the Dragon Ball series.

I comment nearly every week, I'm simply waiting to see if my predictions will come to fruition. That american audiences will not like and respond to Dragon Ball Super in the same way they enjoyed the original material.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:& Last week Kai dipped out the million. I consider this merely the first stage, and not even its final form yet. I will continue to enjoy watching how my predictions play out.

I meant you were gonna comment as soon as Kai beats Super despite the fact last week it dropped out the million. There is literally no trend here, this isn't the "first stage" of anything. If this is the fifth week then sure but there is literally nothing here at the moment, Super is doing well, Kai is doing well that's it.TheMikado wrote:I comment nearly every week, I'm simply waiting to see if my predictions will come to fruition. It's way to early to call but of course your ego of hating on Super means you were obviously gonna comment on that this week.
I consider this merely the first stage, and not even its final form yet. I will continue to enjoy watching how my predictions play out.
The trend is that Super's ratings are dropping at a slightly fastest rate than Buu kai's. Should the trend continue it stands to reason Buu kai could over take Super, which was not expected. Its not about the week to week numbers. Buu kai has been sub million several times and Super has been +1200 several times. Super started with a very high viewership count on day one 1369, it drops to 1040 at its lowest. A difference of 329, vs kai losing 307 from best to worse episode thus far. Neither are statistically significant at this point, however it supports my theory through data that Super may have trouble retaining US audiences versus old DB content. That's my argument, and the preliminary but not statistically relevant data thus far supports it. I never expected kai to beat Super, although I am surprised, merely that viewership numbers would drop for Super faster than kai.

There serval factors for why Super's rating aren't where there should. The two main reasons is because it's content that people have already seen before and frankly has no rewatch whatsoever, except for a few scenes and episodes. Though the major one is it's time slot, a lot of people don't have any interest at watching old or new Super episodes at 11:30 p.m.

Super is getting owned by Samurai Jack. That's pretty sad. Didn't Funimation do any marketing for Super?
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?
Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

They did. Not sure why that means it's sad that it's behind Samurai Jack. That show is owning every other show as well.Faisal Shourov wrote:Super is getting owned by Samurai Jack. That's pretty sad. Didn't Funimation do any marketing for Super?

Uh remember, Super still airs before at 8 PM EST. Viewers who already watched the 8 PM airing may not want to watch the 11:30 PM airing again. We all have to take that factor into consideration.Faisal Shourov wrote:Super is getting owned by Samurai Jack. That's pretty sad. Didn't Funimation do any marketing for Super?
