Maybe but it's still better than anything Boo was actually going to do. To me there are four ways this plays out.Basaku wrote:True, but if Freeza doesn't 'achieve' anything at the end, his scheming against the Gods has no payoff after the build-up, it will be a massive letdown.lancerman wrote:Even if Freeza turns evil and betrays the team and gets discarded in the most predictable and boring fashion... you still couldn't convince me that Buu being in the tournament would have been a fraction as interesting as what we got with Freeza. Freeza was literally the compelling character on the team.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I love how pointless the change from Buu to Freeza was.
1. Freeza somehow wins the tournament and gets the Super Dragon Balls and the series ends on a cliffhanger and the next series starts with a status quo of Freeza being the big bad.
2. Freeza does something to help them win but makes a noble sacrafice or helps Goku win and then Freeza is resurrected with the regular Dragon Balls. If he does then you set up a status quo where Freeza is still out there and a piece on the board that can always be brought back in, which I think is just as interesting.
3. Freeza betrays universe 7 and gets defeated and either is killed and permanently erased, in which case the resolution to this arc is the greatest villain in Dragon Ball meeting a final end.
4. Same as 3 except he is just defeated and sent back to hell.
If it's the first it's awesome, if it's the second it's serviceable, if it's the third then Freeza is basically the big bad of an entire series of Dragon Ball and goes out like the man, if it's the fourth then I'll have an issue.

I can't believe Ajay's predictions from months ago were right.
I also can't believe I made this thread, I feel like I jinxed it.

Everything we known about Dragon Ball Super’s Potential Ending/Hiatus
- Super will stop airing after March 25
- Episode 131 will be the last Super episode to air as of now
- As of now, the officials said that plans for Super are undecided and they have no plans
to start a new Dragon Ball TV series
- Officials also said that “its not like the series is ending”
- Super will be replaced by Kitaro’s 50 anniversary anime which will start on April 1st
- No, this is not an April Fools day prank
-On the day DBS ends, we will be getting news for the upcoming movie
-Super didn’t end because the workers were under paid. On the contrary, Toei had to pay twice as much as they should have to get stuff done due to the rough schedule
- Another motive is that they can focus more the production of the new movie
-The Dragon Ball Super manga will resume. This might connect to how Toyotaro said that the manga will catch up/pass the anime soon.
-The dub will continue and from what I’ve counted, assuming Dragon Ball comes back Janurary 2019, the dub will be around episode 97
This is all we know. Don’t believe anyone saying that Super is over, that we are getting a new db series, or that Super is coming back because none of that is confirmed. Just the info provided.

I called it that Gogeta, Bardock, and something Broly related would be in the movie before it was even announced that it was a Broly movie.

That's Avatar, right? Ah, that takes me back and also provides a perfect basis for this topic. Avatar doesn't get much of anything new these days (besides maybe comics?) and yet, there's still a fanbase out there. Dragon Ball will DEFINITELY survive through the fandom and merch better than Avatar has, if Avatar is any indication.Jackalope89 wrote:

It is indeed Avatar the Last Airbender.mecha3000 wrote:That's Avatar, right? Ah, that takes me back and also provides a perfect basis for this topic. I actually wonder if part of the reason for the hiatus is due to Hiromi Tsuru's unexpected death?

it sure doesn't help, but the main reason is the movie.
Re: Super possibly losing its timeslot or going on hiatus in March?
I'm so depressed right now. It's a good thing there's that movie coming out or I wouldn't feel the need to come by here for a while.
If this is just a hiatus I sure hope I ain't gotta wait a couple years for it.

Re: Super possibly losing its timeslot or going on hiatus in March?
Looks like the suspicions I've had for months now might indeed have been right. That's a shame since most of Super's exclusive content has been tournament stuff, with the Future Trunks story being the only arc that wasn't a tournament-centric narrative supervised by Toriyama (not counting BoG and RoF which were adapted from the films). I suppose the upcoming movie will remedy that issue to some extent though, even if it doesn't necessarily use the "Dragon Ball Super" banner.
I can't say I didn't see this coming, to be honest. Everything about the current arc and the strength of its main antagonist seems pretty darn climactic for a show/manga where it's established that there are 12 universes and one of the most important themes entailed Goku's aspirations of becoming stronger and eventually surpassing Beerus.

Re: Super possibly losing its timeslot or going on hiatus in March?
I hope I won't be the only one feeling no love lost for this. Especially if the hiatus happens and becomes indefinite. Let's not forget:
The first two arcs were remakes of the damn movies.
The U7 v U6 arc was very underwhelming.
The Zamasu Arc was Super's strongest arc, but it has plenty of problems, including an inability to stick the landing.
The Tournament of Power introduces over 80 characters, just to die. And then it's going on hiatus. And if you consider the universes has been teased for years, then we finally get a crumb, and that crumb was wasted on a really long, poorly executed arc.
So, I'm going to say, whatever.

According to one of the producers or writers, Toriyama hasn't decided where things will so at least we have that to go on assuming he wasn't taking the movie into account.
The staff not being able to work on both as the anime would most likely take a major hit.
Fuji TV thinking they may do better with this new show.
A mixture of all 3.
Do you remember when one episode was listed for February 7th which was a Wednsday ? maybe that wasn't a mistake afterall.Lord Beerus wrote:Fuji TV have stated that the series isn’t over and the future of it is being discussed at the moment.

Toriyama not having enough time to come up with an arc due to him being busy with the movie.cuartas wrote:What could be the reasoning to drop Dragon Ball having in mind the massive success it's having and with that comes $$$$.

You're not the only one. I feel like the only worthwhile part of Super's entire run was the Zamasu arc, but that was a blip on the screen compared to the pointless movie retellings and the stretched out tournament arcs.FoolsGil wrote:I hope I won't be the only one feeling no love lost for this. I can only hope we get a new series, set after EoZ, that actually introduces lots of new and formidable villains that cause actual plot progression.

Really? That's so strange. The episodes were better.precita wrote:I wonder if Super's declining ratings influenced this decision. Ratings plummeted in 2017 compared to 2015/2016.

Ratings have nothing to do with it. Kitaro isn't random it's it's 50th anniversary on top of that already seems to have been in production for a while (the fact we have footage) this was all likely planned in advance. On top of that Fujitv happily renewed MH despite never making the top 10.

KILL ME TOEI. You have effectively killed my heart anyway.
For me Super is effectively done, till it comes back
And no. The BS Manga can go to hell.

That's assuming it's ending, not taking a break to give everyone behind the scenes more time to produce and write a better product. They already said the franchise as a whole isn't done so at least we have that to go on.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Wow now that's depressing. DBS ends but Monster freaking Hunter continues...
