That...doesn't really answer anything I was saying. Besides "thA bUdgET" not being much of a factor for the series nowadays (and not a huge one for anime in general), it applies a lot less to Super since the only places they have to outsource to (besides the in-betweens like basically every studio does now) are Toei Philippines (and soloers like Yoshitaka Yashima, if you count him). Even still, their work is more limited, but not actually poor like what you'd get from Last House and Live.
The point I'm making here is that when you have a series that's going to run with this sort of setup, you need stuff that is easily adaptable. Shintani's designs are this. Dragon Ball hasn't actually stopped looking detailed when it needs to in the new movie, and it won't when good artists draw it that way in the eventual TV return (I mean, unless it's corrected away, but as long as we get rid of Yamamuro completely it'll be an improvement either way). Because the best-looking parts of any cartoon look that way because the people who draw them are the best at their jobs, not because the sheets are incredibly complicated.

They sub-contract because they don't have enough staff in-house to do as much material as is called for in as short a period of time.zarmack wrote:Going on non-stop week-to-week and low budgets are the main source of the problem, since they would often outsource the animation to cheaper, less talented animators and studios just to make deadline: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/animation-styles/Shaddy wrote:Show me what TV series runs for hundreds of episodes with as much action as Dragon Ball, with as much or more animation, and designs more complicated than Super's, week-to-week, without production collapsing at some point.

Talking about the last character designs revealed, I only truly love Gine's design.
- King Vegeta's looks stiff and his hair has different shades, instead of being fully black.
- Bardock looks stiff too and I'm already tired of seeing almost all Saiyans wearing blue. I really don't know why his armbands couldn't remain red at least...
- There's something wrong with both faces too. They look emotionless.
- King Cold looks better than both, but those parts around his wrists and legs being fully white now look bad. It's like they forgot to color the middle of them, but judging by the trailers they are supposed to be like that now. I don't like it.
- Beets...Oh boy, there's nothing good about him. Just another Saiyan wearing blue and the perfect example of why Toriyama's current anorexic style doesn't fit this franchise.
If I have to rank to them, It goes like this: Gine > King Cold > King Vegeta > Bardock > Beets.

I find it odd how Bardock is the only one of the flashback group that has the squared off should pads (at least in his character bio)

It's nice to finally see full body designs of some of the characters. Although I'm mostly curious about Toriyama's official designs, even though they probably won't look much different.

King Cold looks like such a badass. Give me a King Cold arc. Or movie, idc. Just give me a story worthy of the frost demons and hopefully erase RoF from my memory,

TBH, I actually think Lemo's design is my favourite of that batch...
Better question though, what is with Shintani's obessession with big dick energy? Look at the freaking size of that bulge!

I really dislike Ryo Onishi's style. He makes the characters look so young, almost like oversized kids. I guess if there is such a thing as going too soft, this is it for me. That said, though, oh my God, everything we've seen from him looks absolutely fantastic and he's blowing me away with the tinest of details put into his movement. That God Goku transformation from the new Blizzard preview is sooooo fiiine. With how little we've seen of Tate, his section is what I'm looking forward the most.

Eww, that Base Gogeta in the beginning is lame.
And some people still say that Takahashi should follow the new art style...
Shida handling the climax and being a monster on that was expected, but feels like he's holding back on his shading. I don't like that. His art could look even better.

I agree, that first shot was really unappealing, the rest of the trailer was epic in terms of animation, it's a shame Shida had to tone down his infinite talent to match this new artstyle

But the shading is not necesary, what's the issue?
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

My god, that was perfect.
Think the base design for Gogeta looks very Toriyama inspired to me.
I have no idea what people are really saying when talking about Shida's art being constrained, since it really isn't. Like, at all. Just compare the fifteen seconds or so of his work in this trailer to his work on BOG, worlds of difference(also nice that we can actually see the action in this trailer unlike the action in his BOG cut).

Well done. Gogeta looks good. Those scenes were quality. I like the fluid movement.Lord Beerus wrote:Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you... Gogeta.

The Umakoshi lines and proportions have me wetting myself. Golly, I can't wait to see these shots not fucked up by editing.

I love the color of Super Saiyan. Blonde just looks better and it's not that disgusting quasi-gold flat color that's used in Super.
