Kai Episode 135 (21 December 2014)

Post by RazorX » Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:13 pm

General Discussion for Dragon Ball Kai episode 135, broadcast 21 December 2014

ブウがブウを食べちゃった 新たな魔人襲来!!
Buu ga Buu O Tabechatta Arata na Majin Shūrai!!
Buu Ate Buu - Attack of the New Majin!!

Really good episode in my view, the music was good, and fitting. Nice to have some Battle of Gods soundtracks, and this episode also contained a handful of brand new music tracks. It reminded me somewhat of the Ocean dub of DBZ, when come the Fusion saga Ocean started using loads of brilliant new music, which carried over to the Kid Buu saga and by that time the vast majority of music tracks were different to the pre Fusion sagas. Seems we may be seeing more and more new music in the Kai version of the Fusion saga.

Covered (episodes) 255 completely and 7 minutes of 256. Not bad, two new pieces of music.

Stayed away from Kai for a while but I happened to give it a watch last night.

As an overall episode (and product), it's still an utterly abysmal and embarrassing effort. Music placement is just dreadful on the whole. The opening scenes of the two Boos fighting felt like someone hit [PLAY] on a 'dramatic music' playlist and just let it run. Misplaced tracks just playing one after the other with no regard for what's on screen at all.

Despite this, It wasn't all bad. There was actually one scene that was near perfect. Piccolo's reaction to Boo's transformation was pretty solid and backed up by appropriate music. Honestly, Sumitomo's score and the performance by Furukawa were genuinely great.

Here's the clip: http://webmup.com/W1vYK/

I mean, the music kinda sounds like it belongs in Naruto more than anything but that's whatever.

There's many moments that work as well as this scattered throughout the show. It's a shame they couldn't be more consistent.

As I said, I haven't been watching consistently but I assume this is new?
Lastly, I feel like the Faulconer fanbase is gonna love this track. I actually kinda liked it too despite it (again) not really being very Dragon Ball - http://webmup.com/n99ui/

I'm rewatching the Boo portion of Z currently. It's so strange to dip back and forth between the two versions.

This is one more track of Sumitomo that it does remind of the old Greek folk music for some reason. The 1st one was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg8JwkLxaDk

I did notice that at his Guilty Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna score as well.

I can't stand Faulconer, but that song is pure awesome. Even if it feels like it should be in a Metal Gear Solid game rather than DBZ.

Yeah, I despise Faulconer too. The comment wasn't meant as a slight against the track. It just seems like something fans of him would really enjoy. It feels really 'big' or 'epic' which seems to be what many praise Faulconer for.

It is very Metal Gear! Maybe that's why I love it? MGS2 is my favourite game of all time.

It's funny; that's not the first track to be compared to Metal Gear either.

A nice jump in pace this week. Still 10.5 episodes worth left to go in the last 25. I'm really looking forward to seeing what content goes, if the jarring stuff goes it can make a real difference.
On the whole, good episode, decent music & Furukawa was awesome.

I think you mean to say you despise Funimation. Why would you despise a single guy doing his job?

Faulconer SCORE.

Why would you pick on a colloquialism that you know full well refers to the score as a whole and not a singular person?

Needlessly argumentative.

I am a big fan of transformations/dramatic changes, so i have to say the music placement when evil Buu changed into Super Buu was wonderful for me, nice feeling truly i love this music. Also the end was great too, very dramatic while Piccolo was talking to Krillin, i just love this Battle Of Gods track, it reminds me so much of Shunsuke Kikuchi. I really liked the placements in that episode, i have hope now for the rest!

Forgive me if everyone knows this, but has the English dub started for the buu saga yet? are they even still doing it?

It hasn't started yet, no. In 2013 Kyle Herbert and Sean Schemmel reported that they were recording it but earlier this year FUNi came out and said they hadn't started yet and have no plans. Most people theorise that they're just keeping it under wraps until it's ready.

I definitely think it has at least been started. I'm thinking they are going to work it like the first phase of Kai. Kai 1.0 began in Japan April 2009 and FUNi began releasing the dub in May 2010. Kai 2.0 started in Japan April 2014, and I have a feeling we may begin seeing releases in Spring 2015.
