Okay, I know I said the project was on hold and everything. . .but then I started to tinker around with Audacity concerning mixing the volumes of the music and unscored tracks, and it seems to work great, so releases are back on the table! I've pretty much finished balancing Yamamoto 53-57, so that's leaves Kikuchi and Faulconer to be done before the big relaunch. Don't know when it'll be happening, but it's definitely coming soon.

Also, as the videos above indicate, I've started some early work on Part 7 as well. Hope you guys enjoy the updates!

New Updates!***

News of the Cell Games Episode 83 Placement

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J8vATWN ... e=youtu.be

Kikuchi Episode 80 Preview

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAx2Sh02 ... e=youtu.be

(and for fun) Cell, the Imperfect Troll

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyWvuPdY ... e=youtu.be

I had a Faulconer Preview for episode 69(Piccolo vs Cell), but it got blocked worldwide and everything. Same thing happened to my Faulconer Goku vs Cell preview. Seems like the Faulconer music gets identified by a couple different music rights groups, so I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to do anymore Faulconer previews. . . maybe much smaller clips my help things. not sure.

I might have one more update to share, but otherwise I think I'm about done until Part 8 hits. While I haven't touched volume mixing since I finished leveling Yamamoto for 53-57, I have been scoring. I finished most of Faulconer for Part 6 this week, with the exceptions of 68 and 71(purposefully). The next couple of weeks I'm really going to bite down and try to get the rest of Part 6 Kikuchi completed, as well as the last half of Part 7. Don't know where I'll go from there, but I definitily want to be ready this time when Part 8 hits. I can see the end of this madness soon if I I'm willing to hunker down for the next couple of weeks.

Anyways, hope you guys enjoy.

I'm just wondering but have you tried tinkering Kai with the Westwood dub's music? I have a few tracks on one of my channels if you want to try it.

Can't say I have(totally not a fan of the music), but I suppose I wouldn't mind making a concept video of sorts like I did with the Shuki Levy score for episode 65 sometime if your interested in hearing the two mixed. Not a problem at all.

Alright. I've downloaded them. Don't know when I'll get to this, but since your the one requesting, what episode or scenes would you like to see done particularly?

dbboxkaifan wrote:Question: When will you release the final version of your Kai placements to listen to?
They will be released once I finish volume mixing each track with Audacity. Granted, my usual updates are in per episode format, but I haven't released anything since 57 because of wanting to get out my remasters for 53-56 first before releasing 58 and onward. So since all my links died anyway when megaupload went belly up, the current plan is to relaunch releases with a 53-57 initial package, and go from there. I've currently went through all the Yamamoto scores for those episodes, and have both Kikuchi and Faulconer to go through next. . .although I"ll probably watch all the Yamamoto ones again just to make sure I have no issues with them.

I really want to get public releases back in the cards, but it was too frustrating with my video editor when I switched to CD lossless. It just can't handle the more subtle or dramatic volume shifts. Mastering an episode audio in audacity(for Yamamoto, at least) can take around 4-5 hours. It's quite literally like performing surgery on it, and you have to be delicate enough so that no one's ears will notice the music going up or down. But the good news is audacity DOES work. It might take 4-5 hours for one audio track, but I get immediate feedback, instead of having to play a guessing game, watch scenes over and over, and keep trying to guess what's going to work best. So unlike my video editor, I'm able to really attempt to shape the music around the actual audio. Let it be loud during proper moments, while also restraining during dialogue scenes. Of course, scenes aren't just one or the other, and most the time are both in some way, shape, or form, so it really comes down to being delicate to craft the volume of the song around the specific scene.

But anyways, to get to the point, I hope to have 53-57 ready at somepoint within the next month or so. Right now, I'm just really focused on trying to accomplish as much scoring as possible before Part 8 hits next month. I don't want to have a large part of part 7 incomplete like I did with 6. Not to mention, I really want to be DONE with scoring by mid-summer if I possibly can. I'm more or less ready to retire from my little dbz kai scoring mini-career, lol. (Still plan on doing Kikuchi for 1-52, but it's really just a bonus to me, and not a necessity since Kai Parts 1-4 have Yamamoto score to begin with).

This week specifically I'm trying to go through 70-74 for Kikuchi, as well as 83-88, which will completely finish my Kikuchi scoring(until Part 8, anyway). And then that leaves Yamamoto 69-75, and then pretty much everything on Part 7 except 87 and 88. With Faucloner, I have pretty much all of Part 6 completed(except 68 and 71), and only episodes 80 and 88 scored. As you can see, as I've went along, I've learned it's better to mix and match, instead of working in a completely linear fashion.

The good thing I suppose is, the quicker the scoring portion of my work shrinks, the more I could seriously devote to mastering the episodes audios and releasing them properly. But, until that point, it's score score, and more score for me I'm afraid.

So in the end, I hope everyone who's been keeping an eye on this project will keep being patience. It's coming guys, at one point or another.

dbzkaimusicrevival, this kind of bothered me while watching your placements but in some there was very little silent moments, is this in the final versions too?

Despite Nagasaki's incompetence he had a lot of dialogue only moments without BGMs playing.

Sometimes I prefer just dialogue audio only than BGMs playing.

What exactly are you talking about? My 53-57 original episode release videos(where I display parts of all 3 scores) or my preview videos of one particular score? Either way, the videos are there to highlight my placements--not to show off the silent parts of episodes. That's pretty pointless for the purpose of showing off the scores. But to your question, is there silence. Absolutely. My placements are based around both the original frameworks of the Yamamoto and Kikuchi placements, respectively. The silent moments for Yamamoto are more or less the same, and my Kikuchi tracks certainly have the most silence out of all 3(Actually, a couple episodes are actually pretty sparse in Kikuchi placements because of major silent scenes taking up a majority of an episode). Faulconer is sorta the opposite to Kikuchi. Some episodes are more even, while others are packed nearly to the brim--but that depends on the episode and what's happening(Kai's intense pace in some episodes plays a factor in this). Even still, my Faulconer placements are still placed like real pieces, and not a syndrome of continuous music for continuous music's sake. Sometimes there are bridges, but otherwise, every theme has a beginning and a proper end.

Other than the impression you might have gotten from a couple of my Faulconer previews, you don't really have much to be concerned with. Trust me, I'm a stickler for only having music if it adds to the scene, otherwise, I'll most likely cut it. But again, there's not really an issue of too much music. It's just the videos are there to highlight the placed pieces.

Hey guys. Just thought I give a quick bit of a news update.

Barring finishing Kikuchi for episode 83--I've pretty much finished scoring Kikuchi tracks for Parts 5, 6, and 7! Over the next couple of weeks, my next goal is to try to do as much of Yamamoto for Parts 6 and 7 as I can( I only managed a few episodes for Part 6 in all the time I had since it's release, sadly). After that, that just leaves Faulconer for Part 7, but I'll probably wind down the scoring before finishing Part 7 completely.

My main goal after that is to finally finish volume-mixing 53-57 so I can release the audios all together. I'm aiming for a date near or around Part 8's release. I doubt I'll be trying to rush through scoring after Part 8 hits, so hopefully once I get the remastered pack out--I can get further into releasing more of Part 5 episodes on a more timely basis than in the previous months. Unlike when I first started the project, I've got a pretty huge backlog of scored compositions to work with now. :D

A nice tidbit also is I finally managed to find a real video editor program (CyberLink PowerDirector) that can run decently on my computer, so I'm hoping will be able to have much spiffier videos and trailers for you guys in the future! Also, as a really nice bonus, it seems like I will be able to add reverb back to the character's thought's dialogue at the points it's missing from the center channel track. Not sure if I will be able to do it 100%, but certainly being able to get rid of that as much as possible is a huge plus.

Other than that, I suppose I'm moving along rather nicely. Hopefully I'll have at least a couple interesting updates before Part 8 hits.

Just a quick little update.

While I thought about saving these for when I finally relaunch the releases, I figure there's no harm in giving fellow Kanzenshuu fans a peek at my new, "official" logos. Not saying these are masterpieces or anything(I'm a total photoshop noob), but I suppose they're at least decent. Anyways, here they are!

Image
Main Title Card

Image
Production Card

Image
Clean Logo

All in all, it's another step in polishing up my production values for my videos/trailers, I guess you could say. Been busy this week, so I haven't really done any Yamamoto, nor do I think I really feel like scoring heavily after the mad rush the last couple of weeks were. . .though I am at work at adding reverb to the episode 53 unscored track. Seems there's quite more opportunities for reverb than I anticipated(i.e. more than just character's thoughts), but anything to touch up the area's of the center channel audio I have to use, I'll take it!

So, other than that, while I'm polishing the relaunch trailer(a real trailer--not just me splicing clips from the audios), I'm trying to get 53-57 out the door as soon as I can.

EDIT** Well, looks like my use of Cyberlink Power Director came to an end quickly. . .cause I've just upgraded to Adobe Premiere! I could swear, the last version I tried on my laptop here would not work at all. Just kept crashing and crashing, and more crashing. Anyways, playing around with it at the moment, but sheesh, seems like you can do just about anything.

Have I misunderstood when I've got the idea that it will be possible to patch these new tracks onto the official discs? Because that would be amazing, and make it worth while buying parts 5-8.

Also how did you manage to get the audio tracks and separate them into channels? I've never thought much about that but the idea is of great interest.

Two updates to celebrate the release of Part 8!

Super Saiyan 2 Gohan 3X:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCqdbByC0ZI

Faulconer Score Kamehameha Battle:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGmat5id ... e=youtu.be

As far as a general status update. . .I think I'm going to have to adopt the DOOM/Id software motto of "it's done when it's done." I haven't really felt like working on much scoring, to be honest--nor any other aspects. Honestly, I think I'm going to finish scoring everythign at this point before focusing on releasing stuff. Might release a video update to give a better explanation on the matter now that I have a real microphone.

Otherwise--I really don't have much else to say, except at least thank God Kai has been released entirely. Now it's nothing but a narrowing numbers game for me!

The "patching" invovled means applying my audios to the ripped dvd/blu-ray footage. Retail disc are read-only, so they can't be altered/edited. As far as how I ripped the audio and score, you can check this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjfHkXTcOA8 . I might end up making a new one since I have a Yeti mic, but it still pretty much shows how it's done.

I do plan on doing Kikuchi tracks for 1-53. . .but only after I finish 53-98 completely. I might do a couple odd Ocean/Faulconer episodes, but there's really just not enough released material to do those really well.

Post by saiyanprimalforce » Sun Mar 10, 2013 5:07 pm

Hey guys! It's been a LONG, LONG time, I know. But despite that, I'm still committed to this project. So, to make up for my nearly 8-9 month absence and lack of updates, I'm very happy to announce I'm releasing all of my Part 5 audios in a "Beta-style" fashion. Read on for more info below.
Introducing the Dragonball Z Kai music revoltuion!

Dragonball Z Kai Music Revival Selection is your one and only destination to relive the epic series as originally intended. Witness the celebration of dragonball's musical heritage--reborn and re-envigorated--with CD quality audio in combintion with respectful arrangement in service of the story instead of clashing against it. Dragonball Z Kai Music Revival Selection is a long-term project, with the singular mission of making Kai fun again--no matter what kind of fan you are. Yamamoto, Kikuchi, Faulconer--the choice is now YOURS!

The Project

The length and span of the MRS will span the entire series, from episodes 1-98, as well as the future Boo adapation. All episodes will feature a "Kikuchi Z" mix, while 53-98 will feature both a remake of the original Yamamoto broadcast score, as well as an all-new, custom arranged Faulconer score.

Beta Releases

Given the large scope of the project, as well as the workload necessary in producing each audio score, episode audios being released in a final form in the near future is next to impossible. However, in order to give fans access ASAP, "beta" WIP versions of episode audios will be released so that MRS can be shared, and hopefully enjoyed, by fans all the much sooner. These will by no means be final versions, and may feature music glitches/inbalanced audio mixing at times, but the goal is to still offer them since the point of the project itself is to provide enjoyment in watching the series, which waiting until there perfect defeats the entire purpose. . .and you'll be waiting a LONG, LONG time.

Utlimate Plans

The ultimate goal is to one day have each scored episode feature a well-edited musical track, proper volume mixing, all the original silent moments from the Funimation 5.1 mix intact(in stereo), and various reverb effects remasterd back into the vocal-only track. However, given the time-consuming nature of the project, there is simply too much work for one person, along with the different levels of expertise required in each activity. Therefore, my long-term plans are either to A)hire someone with the proper expertise to handle these task, or B)if anyone with expertise would like to volunteer in tackling these task in order to help provide finalized episodes for public release. LIke I mentioned beforehand, this is a LONG-term project, and eventualy, these things will get done. It just depends on how. But, this is the main reason why I have decided on providing Beta releases.

About Me

Simply put, I'm a huge dragonball fan. Been around since the old school days of the original Toonami Run and golden age of dbz internet fansites such as Planet Namek, Vegeta's Insane/Ginga Giri Giri, DBZ Uncensored, Greg's Ultimate DBZ Information, and of course, Daizex. I've lurked on these forums for quite a few years, and as mentioned, the dbz online community, but I've never really felt the need to post or participate I suppose, since I never really felt I had anything to contribute to fandom. That is, until now. To make a long story short, most of my fandom has been the subbed, Original Japanese version, before Funimation's excellent Kai dub came along and blew my socks off. Then Toei came in and screwed everything up with their hack job replacement score. And thus, Music Revival Selection was born.

********NEW VIDEO********* Part 5 Beta Audio Release!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDV2faHVOjQ

All right, so with the video up(providing a nice sample of Part 5), I'll start uploading all of Part 5 audios onto Mega later tonight. Over the next few weeks I plan to release all my Kikuchi tracks in Packs of Part 6, 7, and 8. Then after that, I will most likely release smaller doses of Yamamoto and Faulconer episodes--since both scores complete/incomplete ratio are both quite scattered. Besides new releases, I plan to update my channel witha couple old videos I never managed to get up for some reason, as well as some hopefully some new stuff.

Suppose that's about all for now. Just keep an eye on the Mega folder as the files start popping up. I'll be uploading as many as I can when I'm away not using the internet. Uploading anything pretty much makes my internet null and void. :(

UPDATE 3/19/13 *****NEW VIDEOS*****

Kikuchi Episode 1 Preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee_7qs3t87s

Episode 98 Insert Songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhz70u49NUE

_____________

Happy to announce that all Part 5 audios are up in the beta folder, finally. I apologize for the longer wait, but Mega apparently doesn't like batch downloads, so just uploading each one individually seems to work best. Not to mention, I didn't get around to fixing up the Faulconer version of episode 61--specifically Vegeta's Super Saiyan scene(it was seriously miffed up). I didn't give any of the other Part 5 audios simliar treatment, and given it's a beta, that gives me a little lee-way in there being some rough music edits, but considering how iconic that scene is, I didn't want to disappoint. :) (That's mainly the reason I didn't use it in the Part 5 preview).

Anyways, my current plans are to release Part 6 and 7 of my Kikuchi tracks over the next 2-3 weeks. That should give hopefully give me enough time to finish up Yamamoto for Part 8, and do another big Part 5-esque release as far as episodes 89-96 for all three audios, sans Yamamoto and Faulconer for 97-98(I'll release those two when I actually get around to scoring them). As far as what's left for me to score, I have about 23 Yamamoto and 10 Faulconer episodes left to finish before I'll finally be able to say I have all 138 audios(As far as rough drafts, anyway) of 53-98 avaiable. All I can say is, it'll be very nice when I can say I have 0 left to actually score, lol.

Well, that about sums it up for now. If anyone is checking Part 5 out, please, feel free to comment(complaints or cristicism). I'll have a few more videos up during the week before I start uploading Part 6 Kikuchi.

Till next time.

It hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but based on hints given by kei17 it's extremely likely that the upcoming Buu episodes of Kai will have a brand new score by Norihito Sumitomo. Obviously you already have quite a lot of work ahead of you as it is, but have you given any thought to rescoring episodes 1-98 with this score once you've finished arranging the other three? This is of course assuming that Toei doesn't do it themselves for yet another re-release, but who even knows with this franchise? I trust your judgement on track placement way more anyway.

I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, I sincerely appreciate all the work you've done so far and am looking forward to this project's completion!
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn
