Episode 99 UI Kikuchi Beta

https://mega.nz/#!gGxlwTZL!11AOL0HpqnBr ... nNJtxyUq1Q

Any feedback would be apperciated. Volume mixing is the bane of my existence (but a proper set of headphones seems to ease the pain), and I"m a complete newb at adding in reverb fo the missing effects in the center audio channel.

At-the-moment I'm waiting for RF and Super Dragonball CD's to come in to start testing the waters with a Yamamoto/Summito hybrid, so until then I'll be focusing on Kikuchi International.

A pleasant surprise. Love your work and can't wait to get the rest of your Kikuchi placements.

I'm fairly sure the Japanese version is only stereo so...

This Yamamoto/Sumitomo hybrid interests me. I know a Yamamoto Final Chapter is already in the works, but I enjoy a fair few of Sumitomo's placements, namely Fight It Out and it's arrangements for "Last Time On Dragon Ball Z Kai" and the Title Card. As well as Vegetto's theme when he fuses. I prefer Boo Arc having a different OP and ED just like it was in DBZ, and this other Yamamoto project seems to be reusing Dragon Soul, which I'm not too thrilled about. Can you give any details on what parts of Sumitomo's store you intend to use?

***Episode 100 Super Manga Edit Prototype***

https://youtu.be/Hf1L95MO4d8

A test I decided to do to see if I could whittle the Saiyaman stuff down to just two episodes instead of four through the use of a little clever editing and trickery. I much prefer the straightforwardness of the manga without the silliness the anime added (Videl's character is a lot more spunky and crafty to me) , and the closer I can match the intent of the manga, the better. If the prototype were final, it runs a few minutes extra, but good thing I'm not tied to broadcast standards, heh. Any feedback would be apperciated.

Thank you! Glad someone remembers me despite the absencse or the incomplete state of the project. Hopefully, that will be changing now that I"have a very, very nice PC with very nice headphones, along with doing all the work in Adobe Premiere instead of MPEG Video wizard (like I should have from the start). Oh well, we live and learn.

I'm still trying to figure it out myself, honestly, but I think my idea is to treat Sumitomo's tracks as the "new" Yamamoto tracks, like how Kikuchi tracks from the movies were added as Z progressed. Of course, Yamamoto and Sumitomo can have very different styles, but luckly Sumitomo's chorus related tracks I think could really mesh well with Yamamoto's base (from what I've listneed to anyway). I'm still waiting on my Super set to get in, but hopefully soon I can have a more definitive answer. I really like the idea of trying to complete Kai with a modern "consistent" score as intended before the scandal, but I'm only going to do it if I really will think it'll work well--like a passing of the torch from Yamamoto to Sumitomo for Super.

(And I'll probably only try to pull Sumitomo tracks from the Z movies and Super retellings archs...because who really cares about the retelling archs?)

And sangofe, as Mr. Mark indicated--the only reason any music placement is possible is because Funimation is the only company in the world currently that's released their Dragonball audio in 5.1. It's simply not possible to get a clean dialogue/sfx track without 5.1...which, of course, Toei and everyone else still mix only in stereo (for whatever reason, which is a shame). Otheriwse, it would take like two minutes to apply any custom music placement from myself or others universally for any kind of language dub with a 5.1 center audio track to rip from.

Super CD finally arrived in today. Definitely some tracks I like the sound of. I think I wil proceed with focusing on Kikiuchi for 101-102, then jump to to Ep 99 again to test out a Yamamoto/Sumitomo mix. Then rinse and repeat again with Faulconer. The process might be a bit slow in moving along to new episodes, but if I'm going to do an Manga edit with all two/three scores as options, then I don't really have much choice if I want to do so with the least amount of work required (The time comsumption is bad enough as is!)

As usual, feel free to share any feedback or issues you find with the mixing and/or soundtrack.

I'm super happy to see the project is starting back up! I remember being really disappointed that the kikuchi version of the Cell saga hadn't been finished, so I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm really glad you're back working on these audio projects. I loved your custom placements for Faulconer and your accurate placements for Kikuchi. That being said, I have a few questions.

1) Will you be adjusting the mixing in your previous work, or will you only reupload it? I'm sure there are a lot of audio enthusiasts here that can help you put back the reverb and amp up the SFX a bit.

2) Is it necessary to complete the Kai 1.0 Yamamoto part of this project? Given that you're aiming for the placements to be accurate to the broadcast, it'll be exactly the same as the "Yamamoto Revival Project". I understand that you want something to go along side your Yamamoto/Sumitomo hybrid (which sounds awesome), but I think the hybrid can compliment the already complete "Revival Project" nicely. I mention this to simply try and alleviate you of a lot of work is all.

3) Of the projects you laid out, which one will take priority? It seems that you're currently working on Kikuchi for Buu Kai. Do you intend on finishing that before you move on to anything else?

Thank you

Hey everyone!

Just thought I'd drop this little preview in from my "Manga Cut" of Super I've started working on this past week. I've taken BoG and drafted it into the first five episodes of this "Kai" reversion of Super. First episode is pretty much ready to go outside cleaning up the NEP title logo at the end. I would explain why I've decided to use BoG instead of Super's actual retelling...but I think it's pretty self-explanatory really. XD

Dragonball Kai Super Episode 1 Sample - https://youtu.be/NOqLukC3Kxg

I haven't seen the Resurrection F arc yet, but I imagine I plan to do the same outside the 1-2 episodes that transition between them. I was surprised to find that BoG's music is actually ingrained in the Center audio track..so I wasn't able to tweak BoG's placements like I originally intended, but I still included some additional placements from Super's OST for consistency's sake (and the movie has a bit too much silence at times for an anime cut of it).

Hope to polish off Episodes 1-4 leading up to Super's Part 2 release (when I can continue with RoF).

I think from this point Super will be my priority (as in keeping up with Funi's release schedule for a freakin' change) before my Kai rescores. I haven't touched any of them since I last posted, but I got the itch to get back to Episode 99 soon for testing out Yamamoto/Suimmoto hybrid and Faulconer Productions. No set schedule for Kai though--other than when I feel like it. Sorry!

Be back soon!

I'm very interested in your Super Cut. I hope you will be able to use some of the Super stuff for Goku vs Beerus because it was good. As for RoF, the retelling was trash but there are some incredibily good episodes about Goku and Vegeta training with Whis, which you should definitely keep. After the retellings are done, there's lots of stuff here and there that can be cut out.

You mean that you recut DBZ Kai to be closer to the manga, or...?

Super Kai Episode 2 Recap: https://youtu.be/QoGdXZ72_xA

Showcasing how I took Super's Episode 5 recap and masked it over BoG footage for the second episode of my Kai edit(thanks to a couple clever editing tricks).

I kinda have to go with a negative on utlizing anything from Super's BoG retelling. After watching the episodes, there are a couple well-animated segments of the fight, but everything else about the Super retelling is just so bad--animation, scene flow and pacing--not to mention the drastic differences in the location and settings of the retelling itself. Including any footage from it just wouldn't mesh well and stick out like a sore thumb too much for my taste. Ultimately, "brevity is the soul of wit" is the most apt phrase that springs to my mind when comparing the movie to Super. Too much unecesary stuff to cut around 14 epsiodes versus the 5 I've drafted from the movie pretty painlessly The latter is just far more effective at telling the "same" story with far less hoops and flaws to try to work around.

Including the inbetween training stuff with Whis before RoF makes sense, but I'll have to wait until I see the episodes myself to have a solid decision, but I"m leaning toward yes on that one.

Sangofe, to adrdress your couple of questions, you're correct--I have decided to create a manga cut of Kai and TFC, although I will still be scoring the International Cut of the episodes as is for consistency's sake since that was my original intention from the start (Z Kai as is isn't really a bother compared to TFC in terms of leftover filler). So I will have to rescore 2-3 episodes a turn before I can work on editing those down to a Manga cut so I can "port" as much of the scoring work on the International Cut as I can when making the Manga version.

As far as the Japanese version...I could actually do it for the BoG arc since I can't alter the soundtrack like usual...but ultimately it would only be a one-off since I plan on editing Super aggressively, and since the Japanese version just won't bother with mixing a 5.1 track, a Manga cut of the Japanese version would be more limited to working around the musical cues, which isn't what I'm interested in. Thus, would end up varying more significantly to be its own exclusive version of the show. Though, it'd be a simplier job in the editing department, for sure. Hopefully someone else will pick that up for those interested.

Episode 3 Recap: https://youtu.be/KTKg5KiG_q8

This one was a bit more of a pain than I hoped/expected. I took Episode 7's recap, adding one line from Doc Morgan's narration in Episode 6 to smooth it over narratively.

Hoping to finish all the edits on the recaps and previews soon (minus episode 5's preview, since Part 2 Super isn't out yet) so I can get back to finishing out mixing and figure out the optimal render settings for creating a master copy on par with the blu ray footage.

Hey everyone!

With the impending release of Super Part 3 Blu-Ray in Feb, I suppose now is as good a time as any to get a off my butt and get the two movie retellings finished. I still haven’t actually watched the Resuurrction F episodes, but will be changing that shortly to determine how I want to handle it.

As far as BoG’s 5 episodes, 1-3 are pretty much done, with
4 and 5 drafted with the recaps and previews still needing to be constructed. I imagine I can have all 5 finished and released in the next couple of weeks....if I can have a teeny bit of a helping hand from anyone feeling generous enough to lend a small bit of their time for the project’s cause.

Basically, I need a transparent layer from the episode titles that I can use to place over the Bog movie footage I used to reconstruct the episode previews. Originally I thought I would do this myself—but I really have a hard time being motivated to carve out the episode titles because of how much extra work it adds on top of editing the footage and the music and everything. Sooooooo, If anyone is feeling charitable, I would really appreciate it!

I’ll post the png files up later, but just wanted to give you guys a quick update that my Super Cut is more than alive and going full speed ahead, and that I absolutely intend to keep up with he Blu ray releases from here on out now that the first real part of Super is just on the horizon. :)

As far as my Kai work...I’m almost thinking I should just reboot the entire thing and start from Episode 1 and work chronologically. We’ll see.

I could take a shot at this if someone can post high res screencaps of the title cards.

Although it might be easier to just make a new graphic for the title instead of having to cut it out. Unless you're worried about having the exact same font Funimation used.

Thanks Squeakyboots!

Yeah, my intention is to match the episode title font since the episode title cards are still used for the episodes. It’d feel awkward if they don’t match, or if I just used the footage as is. Anyway, I’ll post the title cards I need Asap. Lost my internet connection last week, but I should be back up and running this evening or within the next couple of days.

I ripped RF’s audio last night, and I was unsurprised to find that it’s the same situation as BoG with the score being on the center audio track, so I won’t be doing any major re-scoring work other than small additions or tweaks. Though what, if any, of the anime’s retelling I decide to incorporate I won’t know till I watch 14-26. I should have a firm answer by the weekend on the matter though.

14 is still a BoG episode though.

BoG arc: 1-15
FnF arc: 16-27
