Let's see if I can keep this project alive. Colored western/cartoon Gotenks:

I'll try to color Bulma and Lunch later after I get some work done today. I still have plans to jump around and sketch a western version of Cell (first form) but it will depends on my schedule.

Just a reminder, this thread is for all types of western style inspired DB fanart. Not just my own.

Yay! Can't believe the last post in this thread before that was in June. Also can't wait for imperfect Cell.
This will never not be my sig:
VegettoEX wrote:"Snoop Lion" is just a character he's playing for his reggae album and documentary. Him saying that it's his new name is all part of the character.

I can't believe this is on-topic.

I absolutely love how snarky Gotenks looks there. He looks like he should be shining an apple on his shirt. Er, vest. Whatever.

Made the breasts slightly smaller then it was in the original sketch.

I really love these, Scarz. Makes my dream future where the DBZ mythos is somehow integrated into the mainstream DCU seem just a tiny, tiny bit closer to reality... 8)

Western style Lunch (colored):

Going to see if I could sketch out Cell this weekend, I have a ton of stuff to do. Collected a bunch of references, mostly Kirby's and Bruce Timm's designs for aliens and creatures. It should give me an idea of what to go for.

Don't get me wrong here, I still love large soft meaty chest pillows. But since I'm going for a more "what-if this was made for a western cartoon" then the chest size wouldn't be so... large?

Western Style Cell First Form (sketch):

Personally, I think I could've pushed the design on this a little bit more, but for some reason cell was tricky. I might rework the design but I haven't a clue what to do to make it look more western. But if you guys have any suggestions, go for it.

I think you did pretty good. It's probably not that easy to reboot Cell's design, especially this first form, due to how complicated it is compared to a lot of the designs. And complicated designs and Western animation usually do not go hand in hand (not always, there's exceptions of course, but in general I find anime designs to usually be more in-depth).

Haven't updated this thread in a loooooong time! Well, I should be picking this project up again soon. In the mean time here's a western style Vegeta vs. Goku art inspired by Bruce Timm's Superman vs. Captain Marvel piece and the cover of Invincible #88.

And just a little reminder, this thread is not only for my art but for all western style DB fanart. If you could find them, I highly encourage posting them here!

While your concept is interesting and the art is clean, I really don't think it's fitting.

Do you mean the style in which the characters are drawn (the sort of Bruce Timm look) or just the idea of a western style DB itself?

Does Vegeta only have four fingers in the last image?

Recently I've became more interested in seeing Dragon Ball drawn in different styles. This style kicks ass, you cannot expect everything to be like it was originally, quite the contrary!

That fight scene would be a pretty cool wallpaper to add to my database ;3

Both. But I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying I personally don't think it fits Dragonball. Makes it look cartoonish and like a parody.

You know Bulma kinda reminds me of Aprile O'Neille from TMNT.
The Saiyan characters however look too weird with this style :wtf:
