Remember that Aladjinn dug deep into Vegeta's psyche and brought up all his buried envy and frustrations, and they just manifest in the form of Son Goku. Vegeta might have given up his vendetta against Son Goku, but that doesn't mean all those old feelings just go away.

Story. I've been going over the threads pages and the manga seems to be detailed (which is good for me if it is) as Toriyama keeps things simple.

But yes, story wise.
