Someone suggested a thread for major spoilers, i.e. movie reviews.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

OK, so: for those who saw the clips, what did you think of the effects? I personally thought that the beam collision looked pretty decent (despite the poorish quality).

There wasn't anything wrong with the special fx. The Kamehameha was pronounced incorrectly and the scene just wasn't dramatic enough. It all went by to quick. There was absolutely no struggle at all. All that build up and no pay off. :?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

He said Kamehameha fine. It's how most English speaking people say it. At least he didn't say Kamayamayah!

Where is the ending clip??

From where I saw it, it was removed by FOX. I've seen every other clip besides it and I'd really like to see it

Thanks.

That doesn't make it right.

Who the fuck cares. Honestly...

would you have preferred Kamayamayah! Hmmm, would you? Or how about KamiHamiHeh!

Saying it the way the English dub of the anime said it is fine, as long as it isn't the ocean dub.

My problem with the Kamehameha wasn't how he said it, but that he didn't even go through the motions right. As most of us all know, you turn your hands in a wide circular motion and bring your wrists together... Then cup your hands to the side.

In the movie, Chatku crosses his arms over his chest in an X, then holds his hands at his chest to charge it up. Seeing as we're in a spoiler thread, I don't mind posting to the link.

And there's just no reason not to have done it right. You're not catering to a non-fan audience, you're not saving time, you just did it wrong.

That's...pretty damn stupid, if you ask me. Saying it incorrect is fine, as long as it's not one dub's incorrect way?

What?

Oh no.

Ohhhhh no.

It's not that simple.

You will not believe the first time they do it.

As I said in my review, the sick bastard child of the Electric Slide and the Macarena. They managed to make the Kame Hame Ha, uncool. How do you even do that?

And did you know Kame Hame Ha can be used to resuscitate people? Yes, Roshi fires a Kame Hame Ha into Goku's chest to revive him. I must have missed that chapter. (/pointless rant and sarcasm)

The point is that the move grows to be Goku's own as he creates his own movement for it, but it's still absurd.

Well that scene seemed decent, in my opinion. The special effects were very well done. The only bad part was that the scene was so short, I barely got to get 100% into the scene.

That's the biggest problem I had with the scene. All that build up and drama and the shit only last 2 seconds. :?

My biggest question concerning the movie was how they dealt with the whole Saiyan (Saiya-jin) heritage.

Also, was the story steeped in a sort of mystical world like Dragonball, or were they already alluding to the sci-fi elements that would eventually have been revealed in DBZ?

I answered your first question in the other thread.

As for this, the story occurs in our world.

During the opening monologue, there's a crystal clear shot of South America.

What a way to start the movie.

They left plenty of room for Sci-Fi elements though.

Just saw a clip on Youtube. Wow. I haven't seen acting this bad since Star Wars episodes I-III (mostly from Chatku).

This...might be more painful to watch than I'd anticipated. Not because it's not accurate to the manga in any way, but because bad acting is...well, it's just not good.

Edit: Ahh, reviving someone with kamehameha isn't that far fetched. It was used for practically everything in Dragon Ball. In GT Goku even used it for dental surgery!

I understand the concept of transfering Ki, but not in the form of an actual attack. That's somewhat ridiculous.
