Or maybe I'm wrong. I dunno.
Yeah, it's 50. The episode title focuses on the Goku filler rather than... whatever canon stuff happened in the episode (some Dende exposition talk, I believe).
It's quite entertaining filler, too.

I have yet to watch the series entirely. When it was on TV, I didn't know or care what filler was.

And now that we're getting Dragon Boxes, I'm going to sit through and somehow enjoy the filler on each set.

Filler that is simple, out-and-out time-wasting froth just annoys me because it tend to be awful. Like fake Namek or Goku having to repair the spaceship, or the tv crews filming the Saiyan battle. That stuff just saps my enthusiasm because the only thing it does is delay and slow down the story without being at all entertaining or interesting.
Please, let's not talk about canon in a world where Dodoria kills "the Cargo robot!" or Vegeta sees SSJ Goku long before SSJ Trunks, etc. etc.

Overall, I prefer to watch the filler because I view it as an integral part of the subtly alternate anime universe, for various different reasons. Like Herms, if I don't want filler and just wanna see Toriyama's story as he "intended" it, I'll turn to the manga. Simple as that.
LeprikanGT wrote:I hate the episode 'A girl named lime' more than almost any other filler; that and at the very end where Goku is protecting the eggs.......god i hope that was filler.
I really liked both of those episodes. "A Girl Named Lime" was fun because it brought back Tao, showed a small portion of the world's solution to Cell's threats ("Let's build an 'indestructible' dome city!"), and gave the first real hint at Goku's knowledge of Gohan being stronger. I also didn't mind and really enjoyed the "eggs" episode near the end of DBZ, it had some funny and tender epilogue-like moments, plus Goku watching them was really only a subplot to his reflections on life and the whole gang's party at Capsule Corp.

A Girl Named Lime and those filler episodes before the Cell game are actually some of my favorites. It's kind of nice seeing the characters trying to live out a regular life. It adds more depth to the story, and seeing Tao again was entertaining as well. So I definitely agree.

Actually, the filler as a whole really doesn't bother me. The only thing that got a little old was how much they dragged out the last of the Freeza battle.

Filler is hit or miss. There were more enjoyable filler episodes in Dragon Ball. The Hasky episodes were awesome. The episodic ones where Goku is training right after the Fortune Teller Baba arc are very enjoyable. In fact, the only filler from Dragon Ball that I didn't enjoy was pretty much the entire Red Ribbon Army saga. Those episodes dragged on at a snails pace. I'm pretty sure that's when I stopped watching Dragon Ball on Toonami for the first time. I made it through muscle tower, but the pirate cave was too much to handle. I'd watch a single episode and nothing would happen. I might as well have skipped that day. It was upsetting.

Dragon Ball Z was very different with filler. The Saiyan saga pretty much IS filler and it's awesome. The training and adventure that Gohan goes through is one of the most fun parts of the show. However, anything after that makes me want to drive my head through the wall. the Namek and Freeza arcs had agonizing filler. I think somebody pointed out that it would have taken two years to finish those episodes if you just watched one a week. Yeah, it's that bad. I usually skip around with the remote if I'm watching the DVDs. Although, I found that it's pretty fun to listen to if I'm working. Nothing really happens so if I just catch a few seconds here and there I don't really miss much, plus I get to listen to the awesome music (that's my favorite one from Namek) (second favorite).

Then there's the Buu saga. Which has some of the best paced and totally necessary filler. No that's not sarcasm. We get to see base Vegetto rape Buu before transforming. There's the Saiyaman adventures, once again Gohan stars in some pretty fun episodes. The other-world tournament was fun and funny. The whole Buu arc is the best. It's funny, it's charming, there's magic and adventure, and it has some badass fights. All that would be cut in half without filler. Best filler in any anime ever has to be in the Buu saga. And the US broadcast music has some sweet music too.

...Why do people keep citing this as an actual edit?

The "Cargo Robot" was what the Ocean dub called that helicopter that Nappa destroyed, and somebody made a joke out of that and Cargo on that DBZ Censorship video...

It depends on the nature and quality of the filler itself.

If it's good or at least entertaining (such as the driving episode, the Otherworld Tournament, certain parts of the Saiyaman saga, etc), then sure, I'll watch it.

If it's just plain crap-tacular (like Bulma on Namek, Garlic Jr, certain other parts of the Saiyaman saga, CUTTING AWAY FROM GOKU AND VEGETA'S EPIC, ANIME-IMPROVED SSJ2 BATTLE TO SHOW US GOTEN AND TRUNKS PISSING ON ROCKS WTF?!, etc...) then I avoid it like the Black Death.

I remember the first time I saw "A Girl Named Lime." I hated it. Bear in mind, Dragonball had not aird in America yet at that point, so I had no reason to know about or care about Tao. In hindsight, it was a decent episode.

Overall, I don't care for a lot of the Dragonball Z filler. The early training episodes got dragged on too long while waiting for Vegeta and Nappa to land. The kids' spaceship and fake Namek stuff is horrible. The stuff prior to the Cell Games was mostly dull. I do not like a lot of the Gohan/Videl stuff in general.

The one piece of filler I skipped over here is Garlic Jr. The reason for that is that Garlic has a special place reserved for him in my heart. I hated that arc. When Season 3 first aired on Toonami, there were about 8 weeks' worth of episodes that got repeated over and over again. That meant that the Garlic Jr. trailer at the end of the last Freeza episode played once every two months. I saw it in October, December, February, and finally, one Saturday afternoon in April, Cartoon Network aired the episode I had waited so long to see. Garlic was primed to be the next Freeza in my mind (8th grade with no internet connection yet), and I couldn't wait. Then when it started airing, I was wondering where Goku was and why Gohan and the others were dealing with Garlic. I kept thinking that Goku was coming, but he wasn't. Then Garlic was defeated and I was disappointed. It was a tremendous waste of a storyline. The Androids and Cell made up for it, but nothing can bring those wasted anticipations back.

Interesting little tidbit about Garlic Junior, and specifically with regard to the Krillin's Proposal episode: to the best of my knowledge, it did not air along with the Garlic episodes. The first time it aired was the Friday before labor day in 2000, which was the day Toonami finished running DBZ from episode 1 to episode 100-whatever leading up to Trunks.

As an Orange Brick owner, I can say that I've watched every episode up to the end of Season 3, but then I skipped Garlic and the ones before the Cell Games. I next skipped the Saiyaman stuff and went right to the Tournament episodes. I don't like most filler.

I like that episode. Although I must agree that it seems rather improbably that Goku would be able to fix any electronic contraption even with step by step instructions being given to him in his ear by Dr. Briefs.

It's a shame so many people hate on the Saiyaman stuff in the anime. 'Twas simple fun and wasn't too long; nothing wrong with that.

Inna hit the nail on the ehad with the Buu arc handling it's filler quite nicely.

Wait...! You have "friends" who watch Dragonball with you? SHOCK!

Lemme guess. By "comment on this and that" you mean "totally laugh and make fun of how ridiculous it is," right?

Stop expecting people to know your ins-and-outs, when you're joking, when you're not, etc. Post what you actually think, instead of relying so heavily on sarcasm.

That goes for YOU more than anyone else right now, but it certainly applies to everyone here.

Back when I was writing content for DB3K.com, I did episode summaries for each episode of Z, including the fillers. It's tough enough watching them anyway, but then going back and summarizing them? Talk about rough. Not nearly the amount of work that the Kanzentai team does on their episode guide, but that was probably the least fun part of summarizing the Z episodes.

I re-read the entire manga every Christmas as a ritual so I rarely watch the anime anymore. I'm sure I'll probably sit through the fillers when the R1 Dragon Box comes out though.
