The same episode 30 audio track you posted, but synchronised to the US Dragon Box (It's just the audio track, but you should be able to sync it to any rip you may have, be it done by yourself or not. (Not posting with the actual video to avoid encouraging piracy)

Of note that I kept the Dragon Box audio for the opening and ending, since those were the only parts that were actually HQ in it.

Wow, that audio quality in those samples is amazing! X3
And the movie overview special? Those white suits are hilarious. XD

Is there a safe way to listen to FLAC files?

You... play them on any regular media player, I suppose?

The prospect of watching DBZ with this audio quality is making me so excited I'm having trouble putting it into words. It's lucky I thought of just typing that, otherwise I'd probably still be staring at the post screen for a while. o_o

Slightly OT: That video tape may contain the best-quality rip of the eyedrop commercial I've ever seen!

back on-topic: welcome back, Kei17! Thanks for sharing your findings with us.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
But it's asking for some special plug-in. ^^;

A kind man gave me all episodes of DBZ and the first 7 episodes of DB, but they were recorded in a remote area, so they aren't in the best quality like the first example from TV special 1. Still good enough, though. After I finish ripping all episodes, I would share the audio files if you want.
I personally would pay you for all 291 episodes just for the audio alone!

Even better would be if you used the CD quality versions. O_o

VLC PLayer can play it, but Media Player Classic + CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) gives much better quality playback, so I suggest that for all your media playing needs. :)

I mean for the opening and ending, use the TV-size versions from the Daizenshuu set.

CCCP can destroy Directshow. Multiple people who I help with video have had it happen to them.

If you want an all in one player use VLC (the modern builds are much better than the older ones) or Mulder's custom Mplayer builds.

If you want a proper full codec setup use Shark.

I'm watching episode 30 with the ripped audio right now... it's so surreal; I've always associated Japanese DBZ with scratchy audio, but this sounds great.

EDIT: Even the eyecatch music isn't as horribly annoying!

Hmm... I've never heard of Shark. I guess it's something I'll have to look up. I've never had any DirectShow problems, though... :/

It really is astounding how good this show (And others, like HNK) used to sound...even more astounding that these taped recordings exist for all 291 episodes of Z. It's better than Kai. I don't know if this is against Daizex's guidelines, but I am really hoping one day you can get all of the audio up as you did for episode 30, perhaps a torrent. But what you've done so far is highly appreciated, and very eye opening. I have to admit, it's very tough going back to listening to the quality we have now after hearing how it used to and always should have sounded. It's a shame your Youtube account with the clips of Unmei No Hi's original run among others was banned.

While the vhs tapes have superior audio I still have a hard time believing that's what they sounded like mainly because Mono was standard back then. Only makes you wonder what they would sound like IF they never got rid of the master tapes..

I also work with video and audio professionally so many I can give this ago.

The VHS recordings are still mono, they just don't sound like low-fidelity crap.

In the beginning of the '90s, Hi-Fi stereo VHS was already common in Japan.

There is a CD which includes the entire audio of DBZ episode 229 and 237 directly taken from the master tapes. Here is a sample from that.
