Ok i hope it will be fine, i am curious about the lut things, it's a huge work to do
Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
Ok I finally got the demo page up, waste so much time just to get it up without actually building the page.
http://www.gurugurumagic.com/
The site will contains two main parts. One is the listing of all the cel images and character models. When you click on the cel image, it shows some basic info about the cel.
The character models are build according to the cel. So one cel image may have 1 to many character models. When you click on the model, it will show the info like name of the character, and the most important thing, it will show the color used for every part of the model. Since I don't know how many color palette had been used for every character, I'm just going to pile up all the models. Every cel image will have a new character model attach to it. So at the end we may have like 20 models of the same Goku with his gi.
The second part of the site is a library storing info for all the episodes. After we've collected a big data from the cel images, we can then link the character model to every scene in the library. For example, when I see a scene in kai episode 160 that contains Gohan, I'll then look into the character model database and find a Gohan model that was from an episode close to 160, and then link him to the scene. After that we can then define the source color that we're mapping to (kai). And eventually scenes will be filled and we can generate color palettes for both the cel and kai.
So far I got about 25% done. Cel images and models are showing correctly. Mind the simple layout, I have no time for those yet. The data entry on the backend is not done, as well as the episode library. Give your thought on what can be added.

I added a demo page of the cel matching library to the site. They're just hardcoded for now, in production all the data will be fetch from the database.
The library will show the entire progress of the project in one page. You can browse around and look for any color palette of any scene of any episode.

i was a friend of after effect but finally i switch to a better way of doing cc (no color match tools) so i played a little with db 109 which is one of the worst altered episodes
it's not perfect but it's encouraging for me

Why are you upscaling it?
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Cause the lines look less blury on my TV when i upscale it than when i do it in SD and watch it on tv (and it's experimental settings i allways learn, practice, make test etc)
and before someone talk about the grain reduce just look those two shots from the same frame of db 139
i make a black line to show that it seems like a grainy ghost of goku (grain isn't the same on all the sky) it seems like noise for me
and this one grain reduce (i don't see any details loss) but for me this one look far better than the previous one
the same color corrected

If you want my honest opinion, the reds are far too orange, Tambourine's eyes should be more yellow, and his skin should be a deeper green, the sky is too deep a blue, and Goku's skin is too pink.HakkaiBills93 wrote:Someone i know did this and want to know what people think about his work

It's a great start, though.

Yeah, Waifu2x is gross and should be avoided.

but I think you could combine the two things, improve the quality and color of the imageAjay wrote:Yeah, Waifu2x is gross and should be avoided.

I'm with Ajay on this one. The look of the Waifu2x scaler reminds me of the Funimation Blu-Rays of Z, which is about the worst possible description I can give for a video filter.Trachta10 wrote:but I think you could combine the two things, improve the quality and color of the imageAjay wrote:Yeah, Waifu2x is gross and should be avoided.

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
as long as it don't exist true HD footage, i think the best is to keep the original source untouch
like this it's already great for me

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
Nah, it's pretty terrible. Everything becomes a gross smeary mess. Check out the rocks in that last GT image - you've destroyed all of the textural detail there.Trachta10 wrote:but I think you could combine the two things, improve the quality and color of the image

Mindlessly praising poor approaches isn't very beneficial. It's not about putting people down, it's about ensuring nobody's going in the wrong direction.

Indeed. It's called constructive criticism because it helps you understand what your mistakes are so you may improve.

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
I'm being honest. I though his use of Waifu2x with cc was impressive. I would prefer to watch DB, Z, and GT the way he edited those.
