Totally true. He sets up a tournament to fight Gokuu at his strongest when he could have gone the more conventional route and just killed everyone immediately once he went "Perfect". He looked like he genuinely enjoyed the thrill of fighting just like Gokuu.

How is he his opposite in appearance?ringworm128 wrote:I've always liked the idea that a guy on YT pointed out that Cell is pretty much the anti-Goku. He has Goku's DNA yet he's the complete opposite of Goku in both personality and appearance. So when Gohan fights Cell in a sense he's going up against an evil version of his father.
They also have a lot of similarities personality wise. They both love to fight. They both seek out stronger and stronger opponents and let them get stronger. They both toy with their enemies a lot to make them think they have a chance before squashing them. They both give zero shits about the safety of their kids.

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Even Cell is a better father than Gokubut not as good as Vegeta.RandomGuy96 wrote:They both give zero shits about the safety of their kids.ringworm128 wrote:I've always liked the idea that a guy on YT pointed out that Cell is pretty much the anti-Goku. I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

This is incorrect, but I have to say that Gokuu has a heart of gold...but a huge pile of shit where his brain should be. He has some capability to be a good father, he just lacks the experience and know how to do it. He probably loves Gohan deeply. If he and Milk divorce, I'm sure he would pay child support payments...after he wins the Tenkaichi Budokai.RandomGuy96 wrote:They both give zero shits about the safety of their kids.

Pretty much. It's kind of a pet peeve of when people say Gokuu doesn't care for his kids. He clearly does, he just makes occasional bad calls.

Vegeta got defeated by the earthlings, Goku give him another chance, they found out about a monster who is a lot a lot stronger than Vegeta himself, they end up meeting in the Namek where the race of the Dragonball was going on. the entier Frieza arc is the best writing in the series, the race of the Dragonball is just SO epic!
The way Toriyama paved the way for the 23th Tenkaichi Budokai arc, after Goku defeated Piccolo Daimao, and Piccolo Daimao passing his legacy to his own son, Goku training for the next Tenkaichi Budokai with Kami-Sama away from his friends, Goku growing up from a kid to a teenager, Demon Piccolo Jr against him in the Tenkaichi Budokai, it's the best writing in the entier story after the Saiyan-Frieza arc.

How is sending his son to fight the god-eating monster that JUST killed his other son when he can easily kill said monster himself NOT giving zero shits about his safety?Insertclevername wrote:Pretty much. Because he's a simpleton with way too much confidence in his children. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about them, he's just an idiot that assumes his son's had the same attitude he did at the same age. Plus there's the whole "next generation thing". Again, it's not practical, but he has good intentions.
